as well as religious and social work
ers, are constantly telling of what
great benefits have come to multi
tudes of people of all classes from
the adoption of prohibition.
A great deal is said about the fact
that this law is often violated. That
is true. But we should not forget
that we cannot argue against a law
because it is violated. It was not to
be expected that perfect enforcement
of the law could be secured at once.
Suppose there had been for genera
tions no law against murder, and then
a law should be passed saying, "Thou
shalt not kill." Nothing had been
done to change the nature of the
murderers, who claimed that they had
a right to kill their fellowmen, and
that the law was an infringement on
their personal liberty. Could it be
expected that all murder would stop
at once? Many of the murderers
would merely become more secretive
in their actions. It would take a
long time to show them that every
man who committed murder would be
apprehended and punished.
The real trouble in the enforcement
of the prohibition law to-day is not
so much with the man who illicitly
makes and sells liquor as it Is with
the so-called good citizens, who In
most respects are law-abiding, but in
this case are willing to become part
ners with bootleggers and smugglers
in committing crime against the laws
of the country.
This country owes a great debt to
the world. It has shown that it can
adopt a prohibition law. It is now
its duty to show that there is great
benefit coming from this law, and
moreover, that It can be successfully
enforced. Such an illustration to the
world will mean a great deal In se
curing world-wide prohibition, and the
eyes of the world are upon us, and
so are the eyes of God.
THE RICHMOND STANDARD
TRAINING 8CHOOI*
The annual session of the Rich
mond Standard Training School for
Sunday School Workers will be held
this year November 19th-24th at Bin
ford Junior High School under the
auspices of the Christian, Methodist
and Presbyterian churches of Rich
mond. In former years the session
has been held in February, but since
many of the workers from suburban
churches were prevented from attend
ing by the bad weather, it was
thought wiser to change the time to
November, when more favorable
weather conditions generally prevail.
The Training School will be of vital
importance to every church and Sun
day school worker, dealing as it does
with the many problems which con
front superintendents of schools,
heads of departments and the teach
ers of classes. The courses offered
not only treat of the general sub
jects of methods of teaching, pupil
psychology, the teaching value of the
New Testament, the program of
Christianity, together with the mis
sionary messages of the Bible, but
also offer special training for begin
ner, primary, secondary and adult
workers. Stress is laid on the psy
chology of the various ages, from the
beginner to the adult, the lesson ma
terials suitable to these ages, the or
ganization of young people and .the
principles of religious education.
