APPEAL FROM CENTRAL AFRICA.
From Afric’s breezy mountains,
Where Niger’s flowing wave
Runs down from ancient fountains,
His peopled realms to lave,
A voice comes o’er the ocean,
A voice on every breeze, •
A voice of sad emotion,
Sweeps o’er the foaming seas.
From Boossa’s fruitful regions,
And fields of waving corn,
From where Yaoorie’-s legions
Her chief with sifk adorn,
From ever, humble dwelling,
That looks onfjuorra’sstream.
The urgent cull is swelling,
A nation to redeem.
The sons of science shedding
Their blood upon the plain.
The ships of commerce threading
The streams in quest of gain,
Rebuke the Christian’s languor,
Upbraid our dull delay,
And cull with trumpet clangor,
To marshall us the way.
Unfurl the gospel banner,
On sad Nigritia’s pluins,
And wake the glad liosanim,
From nations now in chains,
The night ol sin shall vanish,
The Mos’em temple fall,
The cross the fetich banish,
Arid Christ be uli in all.
Soodan’s dark sons and daughters,
Baptized in Jesus name,
In Quorra’s sparkling waters,
The Christian’s hope shall claim.
Glad hearts with music ringing,
The Saviour shall ndore,
From Ahyssinnia singing
To Seuegainbiti’s shore.

by Bar- n Stow. D. D. 12 mo, cloth! Price 85 cents.
‘•lf we desired to put into the hands of a foreigner a fair exhi
lition of the capacity and spirit of the American church, v/e would
give him this volume. You have here thrown together a few dis
■oiirses. preached from time, by different individuals, of different
I lenoninations, as circumstances have demanded them; and you
! see the stature and feel the pulse of the American Church in there
with a certainty not to he mistaken.
You see the high talent ofthe American church. We venture
I the assertion, that no nation in the world has such an amount of
li forceful, available talent in its pulnit. The energy, directness,
scope, and intellectual spirit of the American church is wonderful.
In tins book, the discourses by U* Beecher, Pres. Waylsnd and
the Rev. Dr. Stone of the church, are among the very
highest exhibitions of logical correctness, and burning popular
fervor. This volume has a wide circulation.”— The New Eng
