6 Children’s Comet. LITTLE /IT LITTLE. “Little by little,” an acorn raid, As it slowly sank in itn mossy bed ; “I am improving every day. Hidden deep in the earth away.” Littio by little each day it grew ; Little by litile it sipped the dew ; Downward it sen*; out a thread-like root : Up in the air sprung a tiny Hhoot, Dav after day and year after year, Litile by littio the leaves appear ; And the slender branebea spread far and wide, Till the mighty oak is the forest's pride. “Little by little,” said a thoughtful boy, “Moment by moment I’ll well employ, Learning a little every day, And not spending all my time in jilav. And still this rule in my mind shall dwell, ‘Whatever I do. I’ll do it well.’ Little by little I’ll learn to know The treasure I wisdom of long ago ; one of these days perhaps we’ll seo That the world will he the better for me." And do you not think that this simple plan Made him a wise and useful man 1 l7ts Kir fa Ferry-Hoat. THK CIIILU-TEACUKK. Backward and forward in her little rocking chair Alice Lee, now clasp ing her beautiful waxen doll to her bosom, and singing low, sweet lulla bies; then smoothing its fl ixen curls, patting its rosy cheeks, and whisper ing softly, ‘‘l love you, pretty dolly and anon casting wistful glances to ward her mother, who sat in a bay window, busily writing. After what seemed to be a very long time to the little daughter, Mrs. Lee pushed aside the papers, and looking up, said pleasantly: “I am through for to-day, Alice; you may now make all the noise you choose.” Scarcely were the words uttered ere the little one had flown to her and nestled her head on her loving heart, saying earn estly : “I’m so glad ; I wanted to love you so much mamma." “l>id you, darling?” And she clasped her tenderly. “I am so glad my Alice loves me so ; but I fancy you were not very lonely while I wiote ; you and dollie seemed to be having a happy tmie together.’’ “Yes, we had mamma; but I got tired after a while, of loving her.” “And why ?” “O, because she never loves me back !” “And that is why you love me ? “That is one why, mamma; but not the first one, or the best.” “And what is the first and best ?" “Why, mamma, don’t you guess?” and the blue eyes grew very bright and earnest. “It’s because you loved me when I was too little to love you back ; and that’s why I love you so.” “We love Him because He first loved us,” whispered the mother; and fervently she thanked God for the lit tie child teacher.” — Canadian Baptist. SKKDi BV IHK WAYSIDE. Passing down Main street, 1 saw a little girl weeping, and said, “are you sick ?” “No, but 1 had to give m> little chair to my brother.” “Does that make you unhappy ?” “Yes, it does.” “May I tell you about Jesus?” “Yes. Who is he?” “//<• is the children's friend. He had a beautiful chair (seat) up in Heaven, and he gave it up, and came down here to help us, so we would be good to our little brothers.” "Did he ?” “Yes.” "Well, I’ll let my little brother sit in my chair, and I won’t cry any more." Bless the child! What grown-up child would get their lesson faster or better. I.et us learn at the feet of a little child, how to believe and how to obey. —The Woman at Work. DentistrY In view of a general reduction having been made in the various branches of business, as well as in the cost of liv ing and in the price of labor of almost every conceivable enterprise, we have concluded to make public a corres ponding reduction, from former prices, in the following operations in our own business: GOLD FILLINGS, that have here tofore been made at $5.00, will be re duced to $2-50; those formerly $3.00, to $1.50, and those at $2.00, to ONE DOLLAR. We can say that fully eight out of ten of all fillings made, CAN BE DONE OF GOLD for this amount the work being as good in all respects as if we received five dollars per filling; thus you see these teeth may be saved for the amount or dinarily charged for extracting them. We are now making sets of teeth, using the best makes of artificial teeth, for from $5 to $lO. We have recently perfected a plate material which we think is far supe rior to anything that has yet been given to the public, and which, when used, will be found the great want sup plied. We REFIT poorly constructed and badly fitting sets of teeth, so that they are comfortable and serviceable, for a very small amount. Such persons as may doubt that really good operations can he done at the figures we state, (and there are parties who, hoping to receive twice or three times our charges for the same work, will help them to doubt) we par ticularly ask to give us a trial. We have some reputation as a Dentist, and have made it by doing good work at as low figures as. is consistent with thor oughness. Among our patrons we have such men and their families as Mr. Sam’l Inman, Maj. Campbell Wallace, Prof. William Henry Peck, Dr. J. M. Johnson, Hon. B. H. Hill, Dr. A. W. Calhoun, Rev. J. H. Martin, and hosts of others to whom we can refer. Persons not living in the city, de siring to avail themselves of our ser vices, should write us and make en gagements some days before coming, or immediately upon arriving here, otherwise they may be disappointed, as we work almost altogether by ap pointment. Having office and residence connect ed one with the other, we can offer the comforts and security of home to those visiting or employing us. WM. CRENSHAW, Dentist.
