OBITUARIES.
' MCDONALD. Mr. Alexander McDonald, >
was born in Mclntosh county, Georgia, April
13th, 1797, and died in Rome, Georgia, October
«th, IH7D. in bln elghty-llilrd year.
He was between twenty-five and thirty
yearn of age when the writer flrat knew him. .
In early life he wan eminently aucceaafo l.ln
all his efforts and enterprises; and soon laid
the foundat ion for the ample fortune which I
he accumulated in after years. He exhibited
great kindness to his younger brothers, tak
ing them with him to live, educating them
and preparing them for the success which
they all attained as tanners. He alsodid all
In his power toward educating his sisters,
and providing for the support and comfort of
bls parents in their old age.
Few men, with bls then limited means,
have ever done more for their Immediate rel- I
stives.
He married my sister, a devotedly pious
woman, who was Instrumental In intless than |
two years after tiller marriage hlsconver
slon to Christ, and In changing the whole i
current of his life. “The believing wife shall
sanctify the unbelieving husband.” Her In
fluence over him was unbounded, and was
ever used for the be<t of purposes, and it was
In a measure at her Instance that lie became
such a Messing to bls family connections, I
many of whom became pious.
But his good offices were not restricted to
those Immediately connected with him. He
became an active and zealous Christian, and
sought to "do good to all men.” Wherever he I
lived, his heart, hand and purse were const!- I
crated to the cause of Christ. At Waynesville [
(where lie resided for a long time) he and Hr. j
8. K. W Furman were Instrumental in organ- [
Izing a church.and almost entirely athlsown I
expense, he built a good, comfortable meet
ing-house, and sustained a pastor for
many years. He was gifted in prayer, and
was in every way an active, useful member.
My sister lived only a few years and died,
leaving two children.
His last wife was a Miss Houston, of Savan
nah, whodlud In JB7H, leaving one child.
Ills end was peace After a long and well
spent life “he Inis entered into Ids rest "
On bls death bed he said: “He hud been
trying Io serve God a longtime, and during
all these years lie bad never seen a day. but :
that his hope of acceptance through Christ ■
had been a comfort to him.” Mr. McDonald
possessed an Iron constitution, a strong will,
untiring energy and perseverance, and main
tained an unsullied reputation throughout
all his life. Justice to his memory demands
that it be recorded I hat he was a most aftec
t innate, Indulgent husband and father. He
has left to his posterity the legacy ol “a good
name.” I’rov. 22.1.

AKRIDGE. Dr. Thnddeus B. Akrldge,
died nt his residence in Social Circle, on the
morning of the llith of Sept, 1879, after a pro
tracted Illness,in the -list year of Ids age. He
hud been a consistent member of the Baptist
church about twenty-two years. He loved the
church, aud greatly enjoyed the seasons of
prayer. He has left behind a mother, sister,
wile and five children, two of whom are
members of the church. He had been allllc
te 1 for more than 2 years. He was confined to
his bed about Iwo weeks, and while his phy
sical man failed, the spiritual man increased
in strength and In love for Jesus and bls peo
ple. When visited by his friends, he would
always request those who would to sing and
pray with him. On the morning of the 18th,
It was thought that he was dying, and bls
friends were summoned. When he was asked
if he would like to have a season of prayer,
he cheerfully consented. At his suggestion
the 90tli Psalm was sung: he talked of the
uncertainly of of human life, and of Ids Joy
ful prospect beyond the river, and exhorted
nil present to meet him in heaven. He united
wit h those assembled in singing “Jesus lover
of my soul,” and with eyes raised to heaven
and his hands elevated, he gave expressions
i of Joy that none who witnessed them will
ever forget. Tills was Ids last and happiest
day on earth, for before the light of another
morning he hud gently breathed his last.
Ills funeral was preached In the Baptist
church by brother J. F. Edens. His remains
were taken in charge by the Masons, mid were
followed to the family burying ground by a
large concourse ol friends, and there commit
ted to the grave according to the rites and
usages of I hat ancient order, to await the res
urrection morn. “For Hwe believe that Je
sus died and rose a again, even so them also
which sleep in Jesus will God bring with
him.” So mote it be. Amen. » • o
SMITH.—Died at her home in Baker coun
ty, Georgia, on the morning of the 2tith ult.,
in the 57th year of her age, Mrs. Jane K
Smith, wife of Mr. W. P. Smith, a deacon of
Milford Baptist church. Born In Washington
county, she moved to this county with her
parents nt the age of twenty. Before this re
moval she had made a profession of faith In
theHnvlor, and continued to the close of life
a consistent mid devout follower.
The piety ol patriarchs and apostles Is re
corded In the Bible ns a stimulant to Chris
tians in all ages. For the same purpose the
diameter of this excellent sister may be men
tioned. As a wife, mother and neighbor, she
was an example worthy of imitation. As u
Christian, she was habitually meek and gen
tle, of strong abiding faith and always ready
to help In every good work. For many years
lifter their marriage, her husband was not a
professor of religion. Still sister Smith was
one of the most punctual and regular attend
ants upon the meetings of the church to
which she belonged. As a result, doubtless of
t bls persistent devotion, It was her privilege
to welcome Into the klngdnm of the Redeem
er, both her husband and a precious daugh
ter one several years ago, unit the other some
months ago. The writer, who was her pas

Inflammation of the Kidneys and Bladder.— Case of N. C. Barnett, Secre
tary o f the State of Georgia.
Atlanta, May 20, 1879.
Col. Thomas F. Goode —..ear Sir : After having been long a great sufferer from inflam
mation of the Kidneys and Bladder, which was gradually prostrating my strength and un
dermining my constitution, by the advice of Dr. R. S. Jackson of this city 1 determined
upon a trial of the Buffalo Lithia Waters. In a few days after commencing the use of it,
the good effects were unnnstakablein the gradual cessation of all my distressing symptoms,
and I cheerfully bear testimony to its wonderf.l curative properties in diseases of this
character. Respectfully. N. C. Barnett, Secretary of State.
Stone— Case of Mr. Wolffie, of Point Coupee Parish, Louisiana.
Point Covpee Parish, La., April 2, 1878.
Mr. Thomas F. Goode, Proprietor Buffalo Lithia Springs, Va.:
Two years ago I began to sutler with a severe and constant pain in my kidneys, which
was followed by violent attacks, averaging about two a week, causing excruciating agony,
from which I wits frequently relieved by the discharge of stone of from four io six grains in
weight; at other times, by the passage of smaller stone; and sometimes by sand in consid
erable quantities. I sought, but in vain, the b-st medical assistance, and as the result of
this state of things, 1 was reduced to such a condition that my medical advisers told me
frankly that I had nothing >o hope from remedies; that my condition was a hopeless one;
and 1 looked to death alone for a termination of a miserable existence. Mr. J. L. Lyons,
a druggist of New Orleans, about six months ago advised me to try the Buffalo Lithia
Water. Spring No. 2, which I did. About a week after I commenced the use of it, I had
an attack of less than usual severity, in which I passed two small stones, one of which I
placed in a tumbler of water, and in about three hours f und it dissolved to a fine powder.
That gave me confidence, and I determined to persevere in its »se. I have had no attack
whatever since, nor h. s there been any discharge of stone or sand.
The pain in my kidneys has entirely disappeared , my weight, which had been greatly’
reduced, I fully regained ; and my general health has been entirely restored. I very cheer
