THE.PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Held Its Semi-Annual Examinations Last
Week.
Last week the semi-annual examina
tion of pupils occurred at the Rome pub
lic schools. The examinations are very
critical, and one must be mighty correct
before they will be given a good mark.
The questions are written on the black
board in rotation, and the contest begins
batween the pupils as to who shall give
the correct answers to the questions,
which must be neatly written with pen
and ink on nice paper. A pupil will
get a bad mark for a poor manuscript as
quick as they will for missing a question.
Prof. R. J. Gwaltney says that in his
grade over twenty papers averaged 95.
Four pupils got 100, and several others
averaged 99Six or seven also aver
aged 95 to 100.
These examinations occur twice a
year, and they have proven to be very
beneficial to the. pupils.
