TH RID PARTY
Holds a Mass Meeting at the
Court House Today.
WILL SELECT DELEGATES
To the Gubernatorial Conven
tion in Atlanta on May
Sixteenth.
Today the Third Party forces will
rally at the court house in mass meeting
to nominate delegates to the guberna
torial convenion which meets in Atlan
ta, Wednesday, the 16th inst., to select
the populist candidate for governor
Third Party leaders from this and sur
rounding counties will be present. Mr.
Geo. Fleetwood is chairman of the exec
utive committee here, and will very
probably engineer the proceedings today.
Col Miller Wright and Major Joseph
Blance, of Cedartown, will be present
and advise with the meeting, concern
ing the welfare of the party in Floyd.
Both of these gentlemen are prominent
in the ranks of the populists, not only
in their county , but in this section of
the state.
In answer, yesterday, to a question
concerning the probability of their put
ting out candidates for the legislature, a
third party man said: .
“It is not probable that we will take
any action today regarding the candi
dates for the legislature. We have de
cided to wait a little longer, and then
we will put out our men and make the
fur fly. People who think the third
party is dead in this county, will be very
much surprised when the time rolls
around for us to poll our strength.’’
“Will Floyd county furnish any pop
ulist candidate for congress from this
district?”
‘‘l cannot say definitely yet. There
has been talk of Hon. Seaborn Wright,
or Mr. Watt Harris, of Cartersville,
being independent candidate for con
gress, and should either announce on this
line the third party would probalby sup
port him. I have nothing further to say
about our plans, as the mass meeting
will very likely map out the campaign.”
DEAD IN'aBOXCAR -
A Tramp Dies Alone In a Box Car From an
Epileptic Fit,
Plainville, Ga., May 11. (Special.)—
Today about noon a man plainly dressed
and about 35 years old, was found dead
in box car on the side track at this place.
A letter was found in his pocket from
Norfolk, Virginia, but had no address
on it A valise near his body, contained
a painters outfit. In conversation with
Mr. Boyd Thursday, the man stated that
his name was McGower.that he was a
painter by trade and had been at work in
Cartersville recently. He said that his
home was in Virginia.
When disovered, the body ws rigid
and he had evidently been dead some
time. The box car had been standing on
the siding several days, loade 1 with cross
ties. A jury was empanneled and after
examining the remains decided that
death resulted from an epileptic fit. His
death must have been attended with
fearful agony, for his head and body were
badly bruised. The body will be buried
here.
