THE RUME TRIB f JNF, FRIDAY. JUNE 1. 1894
KEELEY INSTITUTE
An Effort Being Made to Have
It Moved Here.
CAPTAIN LY TLE TALKS.
It Would Mean Much for
Rome and Its
Prosperity.
It is highly probably now that the
Keeley Institute in Dalton, will be
moved to Rome. Capt. Lytle in his us
ual public spirited manner, has made
some very flattering inducements to the
stock holders to locate the institute on
the hill just back of the springs.
Yesterday afternoon, a Tribune re
porter went out to the Captains pleasant
home in the Fifth ward, and found him
toasting before a good fire.
‘‘Captain, I learn that you are ne
gotiating with the stockholders to have
the Keeley Institute moved here? Can
you tell me about it?”
Well, there isn’t much to tell, except
that I have made them an offer, and
lam doing all I can to have it brought
to Rome. The hill back of the spring
there would be a splendid place to build
it. There is a ’magnificent grove, and
the view is one of the host here. It will
be convenient to reach the city on the
car line, yet it is far enough removed to
have the quiet necessary in such a
place.”
“What would be the benefit derived
by having Relocated here?”
‘‘Varied, sir, a very large and hand
some building would be constructed,and
that would enhance the value of proper
ty in this part of the city. Os course it
requires the outlay of a considerable sum
to run an institution like the one we
would have here. Mr. Martin Grahame
president of this branch, is at present in
Cananda, and we cannot act on the mat
ter until he returns, but you can say .that
the prospects are bright for I; > i ; -
bated here.”

ECHOLS FOR EVANS.
Bat Faania Is Coanted for Atkinson. Glytm
Goes forJHlm.
Atlanta, Ga., May 31. (Special).—A
peculiar condition is reported iropi
Fannin county. On the day the i
mary was held there it was reported
that the county had gone for Gen
eral Evans and these reports were con
firmed by the latei and fuller ’ones, but
next day the executive committee of the
county met and counted the votes and
decided that Mr. Atkinson had a major
ity of five votes. It looks like some very
funny business has been’done.
Echols acted today and went for Gen
eral Evans. The action ’was by mass
meeting and was a great victory for the
the General. All of, the State house
officers were indorsed.
Glynn gave a big majority to Atkin
son. The exact figures cannot be ob
tained tonight, but jt will be something
like 200.
WATERMELONS HERE.
Tqe Lucioas Fruit Has Made its Appearvnc
in the City.
That lucious and always delicious pro
duct of Georgia soil, is on sale at several
stands in the city. Watermelons grown
in Georgia are not equaled by those of
any other state in the union, and the
fame of this fruit is known in every city
in the United States.
Those received in the city are very
fine, and being the first of the season,
the prices are almost as large as the
melons. Mr. Ike May had the distin
guished honor of buying and eating the
first one cut in Rome in 1894. He is as
proud of the fact as if he had bought
another big stock of goods at bankrupt
prices
It is funny to see the brother in black,
standing' near the tempting fruit, and
how longingly he looks at its beloved
shape. His eyes will roll, and a rim of
white appears just below his nose, where
his mouth opens in ecstatic contempla
tion of “dat walermilyun,” but with
a sigh of regret, he turns away as he re
members that he hasn’t “the price.”

gestion of the lungs, and her death was
very sudden. Her home was in San
Antonio, Texas, and for several weeks
has been visiting here. Mrs. Cotton was
73 years old, and was a good Christian
woman. The remains will be shipped

Mothers, Do you Know that Paregoric,
Bateman’s Drops, Godfrey’s Cordial, many so-called Soothing Syrups, and
most remedies for children are composed of opium or morphine t
Do Yon Know that opium and morphine are stupefying narcotic poisons t
Y°n Know that in most countries druggists are not permitted to sell narcotics
without labeling them poisons ?
Yon Know that you should not permit any medicine to be given your child
unless you or your physician know of what it is composed ?
P° Yon Know that Castoria is a purely vegetable preparation, and that a list of
its ingredients is published with every bottle ?
P° Yon Know that Castoria is the prescription of the famous Dr. Samuel Pitcher.
That it has been in use for nearly thirty years, that more Castoria Is now sold than
of all other remedies for children combined ?
P° Yon Know that the Patent Office Department of the United States, and of
other countries, have issued exclusive right to Dr. Pitcher and his assigns to use the word
Castoria ” and its formula, and that to imitate them is a state prison offense ?
P° Yon Know that one ot the reasons for granting this government p-otection was
because Castoria had been proven to be absolutely harmless?
P° Yon Know that 35 average doses of Castoria are furnished for 35
cents, or one cent a dose!
P° Yon Know that when possessed of this perfect preparation, your children may
be kept well, and that you may have unbroken rest ?
ell, these things are worth knowing. They are facts.
