What Has Been Done.
What has the administration done? It
has done this:
Repealed the Sherman law.
Repealed the federal election laws.
Saved $46,000,000 of fraudulent pen
sions.
Practically passed a tariff bill that cuts
the duty 30 per cent, and saves the peo
ple directly $70,000,000, indirectly $l4O,
000,000 more.
Uniting Democrats.
The Columbus Enquirer-Sun thus
ably reviews the work of the admin
istration :
“The time is fast coming, has in
deed come, when those Democrats
who have differed with the Adminis
tration begin to regard President
Cleveland’s policies more conserva
tively, and are disposed to accord
to him more fully their confidence
at the expense even of their own
personal prejudices. When we look
back at the opposition that has pur
sued the Administration since the
inauguration, it is difficult to real
ize that it has been so largely the
opposition of Democrats.
“There was an outcry against the
appointment of Judge Gresham as
Secretary of State. He was one of
the ablest and purest men in public
life, and had abandoned the Repub
lican party and cast his fortunes
with Cleveland.
“I'hen there was some irritational
criticism of the appointment of Hoke
Smith as Secretary of the Interior,
and it has developed that this was
one of the best Cabinet appoint
ments that Mr. Cleveland made.
“Then there was a hue and cry
among Democrats against Mr. Cleve
land’s Hawaiian policy, and yet the
whole civilized world has practically
endorsed it.
“Mr. Cleveland aroused the an
tagonism of these same Democrats
by his message recommending the
unconditional repeal of the Sherman
act, and yet no demand was more
emphatic in the Chicago platform,
and today the vast majority of the
American people know that the re
peal was right.
“Next came the temporary furore
raised against Mr. Cleveland be
cause he vetoed the seigniorage bill,
but that has also died out.
“And so with other policies of the
Administration—the same dissent
ing Democrats have always found
something to criticise, and, in too
many instances, to abuse. They
have lately been finding that they
are not in accord with the great
mass of the democracy, and are
likewise awakening to the fact that
abuse and opposition to the Admin
istration is not a good way to
strengthen the party. As fast as
the people can declare themselves,
in the Democratic conventions of the
counties, and in the Democratic
conventions of the States, they are
giving their frank and hearty en
dorsement to the Administration.
Let the good work go on.
What’s this? A duel in Boston.
What are we coming to? A Boston
lawyer and a Boston editor have
fought a regular old fashioned duel
with swords in the silence of the
night and by the light of the moon,
and as an evidence that the affair
was not a farce, as so many modern
duels are, the lawyer is lying seri
ously if not fatally wounded with
four wounds on his person. The
South is shocked to hear of such
barbarities right under the shadow
of Bunker Hili monument and Sen
ator Hoar's effulgent nose.
There are eight women Colonels
in the German army. They draw
their s words but seldom, it is true,
but they make up for this by draw
ing heir salaries with unfailing
regularity. They* are the Empress
of Germany, the Dowager Empress,
the Princess Frederick Charles, of
Prussia, the Queen Regent Sophia,
Queen Wilhemina of the Nether
lands, the Dutchess of Connaught,
the Duchess of Edinburg, and
and Queen Victoria of England.
Lowndes county democrats never
flicker. On Monday they gave
Evans a rousing big majority, en
dorsed Cleveland and Turner and
denounced in strong terms news
papers engaged in knifing Cleve
land and the administration.
Lowndes county democrats know
where they “ are at.”—John Trip
lett.
Hon. Steve Clay, ot this county,
has took the stump for Hon. W. Y.
Atkinson, and is making speeches
in all parts of the State. Mr. Clay
is a forcible speaker and will be of
great service to the Coweta states
man.—Acworth Post.
Yes, and Steve “has took’’ a
mighty bigjob.
Prince Charles Von Hohenzollern-
Sigmartingen was at his wedding,
attended by an unusual number of
pages in-waiting. They were needed
probably to keep his name from
trailing on the ground and impeding
his measured step when the organ
“pealed forth the wedding march
from Lohengrin.”
There is no reason in getting ut
terly wild in politics, especially in
divisions that do not involve prin
ciples. It is utterly absurb. Spar
ta Ishmaelite.
Editor Lewis ought to paste these
lines over his desk and look
upon them for his own benefit.
The Augusta Herald says:
“Again we gratefully thank the
Macon Telegraph for not “demand
ing” Gen. Evans’ withdrawal. It is
so good, so kind and so sweet of the
Telegraph not to make this “de
mand.”
The Honorable Newt Twitty has
commenced his canvass against
Carter Tate in the Ninth. Newt
is looking for the populist nomina
tion, and also looking for various
other things he is not at all likely
to see.
If Ben Harrison has determined
to remain in p v ivate, it is one time
when Ben and the vast majority of
his fellow citizens exactly agree.
Colonel Ham seems to be suffer
ing with that tired feeling. When
Hall went the wrong way, it gave
the Snollygoster the droops.
Did you ever notice that only the
living advertise? The dead have
nothing to say, neither are they
troubled with business.
The Macon News is to be sold at
receiver’s sale next Tuesday. The
News ought to be a sucessful news
paper.
Affairs of the forty-second sena
torial district will be safe in the
hands of Wat Harris.
Atkinson’s majorities are mighty
narrow somehow or somehow else.
The Atkinson people up in Fan
nin seem to be expert counters, if
not very good voters.

THE ROME TBfBONE, SATURDAY JUNE 2.
SURROUNDED BY MYSTERY!
A Great Mistake.
A recent discovery is that headachy
dizziness, dullness, confusion ot the mind,
etc., are due to derangement of the nervs
centers which supply the brain with nervo
force; that indigestion, dyspepsia, neuralgia,
wind In stomach, etc., arise from the derange
ment of the nerve centers supplying these or
gans with nerve fluid or force. This is likewise
true of many diseases of tho heart and lungs.
The nerve system is like a telegraph system,
as will be seen '>y the accompanying
