Yesterday a yo-nth by the name- of
Gregg made- a strange discovery, on
the bank of the Dostanaula river He
saw a woman’s apron lying amo&g
the rubbish, and curiosity induced
him to pick it uijx
When he did so the body of an in
fant child rolled out upon the ground
Gregg was dumbfounded,, nd re
ported the matter to the police.
An investigation was made,
Dr McCall was summoued. He stated
that from every appearance the baby
had been lying there for several days,
as decomposition had been troimr on,
and it wasaltauost unrecognizable as a
human being.
A jury was summoned, and an- in
quest held. The apron was retained
as evidence,.and it is possible that it
may lead to the identification of the
person placing the body there.
From the appearance of the body
it was hard! to tell whether it was a
white child or a negro, but it was
thought to be a mulatto, from the
kinks of its hair and color of the nails.
It had no clothing, and was evi
dently newly born when placed there
