* In combination, proportion and
process Hood’s Sarsaparilla is peculiar
to*itself, and unequalled in true merit.
No other medicine ever possessed so
much curative power, or reached such
enormous sales, or made such won
derful cures, as Hood’s Sarsaparilla.
It is undoubtedly the best medicine
ever made to purify, vitalize and en
rich the blood. B
■ That is the secret of its success.
I Read this statement:
* When my son was 7 years of age, he
had Rheumatic fever and acute rheuma
tism, Which settled in his left hip. He
,'Was so sick that no one thought there was -
any help for him. Five sores broke out 1
on his thigh, which the doctor said were
Scrofula
Bores. We had three different doctors. ,
Pieces of bone came out of the sores. The j
last doctor said the leg would have to be ,
cut open and the bone scraped, before he
could get well. Howard became so low
that he would eat nothing, and one doc- i
tor said there was no chance for him. ,
> “One day, a newspaper recommending (
Hood's Sarsaparilla was left at our door. ,

and then he gained rapidly. I gave him '
five bottles, when the sores were all healed j
and they never broke out again. The >
crutches he had used for four years were
laid aside, as he had no further use for 1
them. I give all the credit to Hood’s Sar

A Note on the Situation.
Editor Tribune: Some proverb
writer, or adage maker, has said ‘‘op
portunity comes at least once in the
life time of all.” Just how true this
may be of mankind I can’t say, but
Ido know it has come to the demo
cratic party twice within the past six
years. Certainly once in 1892 and
again today it stands in easy reach,
ready, willing, and I might say im
ploring that organization to over
take it. Already one of the great po
litical parties in America, in national
convention, has named its candidate,
enunciated a platform disclosing the
principles of the party, admitting the
inability of the American people to
control their own affairs, forcing to
the front by far the greatest and most
important issue the people of this
country have ever been called upon to
settle, going on record as favor
ing a financial system that has
already brought greater distress
to the American peop'e than ever
before in their history, and (if continued)
will wreck the happiness, the prosperity,
and the independence of American labor
ers and producers, and end in the total
destruction of all the great interests of our
land. It seems to me, the “people have
pointed out a plain straight course for the
democratic party,” and I fear there will
be a strong effort made to turn it aside
frpm that course—even to wreck it—
rather than see it go back to the old land
marks of democracy, and in the next
national convention stand squarely for
the interest of the whole people, and this
too by men calling themselves democrats,
coming from states, which in the past,
have voted oftener with the repub
licans than with the democratic party
but have always had more influence
in making the platforms of the na
tional democracy than the “Solid
South,” and that section, and
those so ealleu democrats now,
and I believe will attempt to de
stroy the Ifjarty, if they can not
controll itaethe interest of the gold
the democratic plat
form of 1892 been carried out in spirit
and in letter, the party today would
have been solidified, and better pre
pared for the coming contest between
the people and the money power.
There would have been no use for the
populist party, nor do I believe there
would have been any such organiza
tion, certainly none in the South.
That section and those men who dic
tated that platform worded it to get
in on, and afterwards construed it
to suit themselves, would now be in
the republican party—where they
belong—and today the democratic
party would stand as it. once did, and
as it always did, and as it always
should, the “Redeemer and not the
oppressor of the people” who trusted
it always until it departed from the
principles (as they believed) of Jeffer
son and Jackson, who rallied to it in
1892 and who will again rally to it
in 1896, if the national convention soon
to meet declares for the money
.of the people and the constitution,
and nominates a candidate known to be
in favor of that money, and from a sec
tion whose interest demands it, and which
is not controlled absolutely by the money
syndicates of England and the East. But
the party in convention must act and
speak so as to inspire confidence. The
voters, the honest masses, the common
people, the producers, the men who con
stitute the bone and smew, the hope and
strength of the republic, are opposed to
the gold standard and in favor of the
free coinage of silver side by side with
gold, and they will vote that way, and
with the party that declares that way and
convince them it stands for their interest
against the interest of the money power
of the world. Take for example, our
congressional district. Let the Eastern
goldbug and his political mani
pulator—those men, who in 1892
furnished the democratic plat
form. worded it so as to win the
confidence of the whole country by
that elected Mr. Cleveland and a
democratic house of representatives
by an overwhelming majority, who
afterwards, with the aid of republi
cans in congress, perpetrated a be
trayal of the American people, which
has never had an equal since Judas
Iscariot betrayed the Saviour of man
kind. I say let them again dictate
the platform, and write the financial
plank, and before the ink is dry be
gin to claim it does not mean what 1C
says, and the majority of the na
tional nominee as well as that of the
Hon. John W. Maddox will be small.
On the other hand let the people’s
representatives in the convention
(and they are in the majority) stand
for the principles of true democracy,
and convince the voters that its nom
inee will be true to each and every
principle as declared, and that the
party will stand by this interest and
not that of the money loaners of the
world. In that event there will
be no room for independents in
the Seventh; no use for popu
lists; all will go to work aud
vote for o ( ur common interest and in that
party where there are better hopes of suc
cesss end in November the national nom
inees as well as John W. Maddox will
carry the district by the largest majority
ever known. The opportunity and the
democratic ] a r ty again stand face to face.
“The people have pointed out the
way.” Will the convention take it?
A few dajs will tell.

THUMB’S TITLE PERFECT.
The Venezuelan Cabinet Decides In Favor
of the British Capitalist.
New York, June 30.—A dispatch to
The Herald from Caracas says: A
special cabinet meeting was held on
Friday at which it was decided that the
title of Mr. George Trumb, representing
British capitalists, to iron mines situ
ated near the Dalta territory, was per
fect. This was regarded in official cir
cles as a death blow to the Manoa com
pany. Commenting on the above dis
patch The Herald says:
“The Manoa company of Brooklyn
was organized about ten years ago. It
received a large grant of land in Vene
zuela, near the territory which is now
claimed by the governments of that re
public and of Great Britian, from Gen
eral Guzman Blanco. The land which
was thus conceded included an asphalt
lake. The concession was afterward
withdrawn, but through the efforts of
Donald Grant of Faribault, Minn., was
soon restored.
“The company was unsuccessful in
its enterprise, however, and in August,
1889, a meeting of creditors and bond
holders was held in this city. They
found that the company possessed no
money and had a floating debt of |50,-
000 and a mortgage debt of $2,000,000.
A motion made before Judge Clem
ent of the sdpreme court in Brooklyn in
February last by one of the stockhold
er! to appoint a receiver was granted by
the court. James A. Radcliffe was ap
pointed receiver.”
