Tie Past We;k Has B cn a Dry One For
Growing Crops,
TUESDAYS RAINS WERE GENERAL
Last Crop Bu’l *,tin c.f the Season Tel's
News That is Not En
couraging.
Weather Forecaster Marbury Tu slay
issued his last weekly crop bulletin for
this season. His reason for discontinuing
the report is the fact that the crop sea
son is already go far advanced that the
bulletins are hardly necessary.
The final bulletin shows that the week
has been a dry qpe, and most of
the crops are suffering from lack of mo's
ture. Rains were falling in nearly every
section of the state and they promise to
bring relief to the growing crops. A few
frosts have been reported. Cotton is be-'
ing rapidly picked and the entire crop is :
practically made. Corn is being gath
ered. The bulletin is as.follows:
While dry weather has prevailed over
most of the state the major portion of the
wetfk a good many seasonal showers,
which were beneficial to pastures, and
served, in sone inslaices, to allow
the sowing of turnip sei d and the
commencement of fall plowing. Cot
ton is about all picked and saved, a thing
almost unprecedented in the history of
its cultivation. The average yield of this
crop will be very little over half the nor
mal. A fair yield is reported. Pastures
and all minor crops are dried up. Streams
springsand wells are failing rapidly. Today
general rains are falling throughout the
state, and grasses and pastures will be
benefited. Fall plowing and seeding will
probaly begin now.
N rilwrn Georg a.
Tha past week has been cooler than for
some time, but the drought remained
practically unbroken, except in a few
favored localities where local showers oc
curred. Cotton has nearly all been picked
and saved. The yield is about half the
average. The dry weather has been
favorable for picking and the crop was
housed in good condition. Light frosts
occurred < n the morning' of the 14th, but
did no damage as far as can be learned.
Sweet potatoes are usually small, and the
yield very much less than the average.
Where good showers have fallen farmers
have taken advantage of the season af
forded t<> sow turnip seed. No wheat
hits yet been sown, as the ground has
been tho hard and dry for plowing. Now
that cotton has been about all saved
faimers are turning their attention to get
ting in their late corn. The <rop, while
fairly good, is somewhat lower than last
„ year. Potatoes and other minor crops

are very inferior, and the yield consider
ably below the m rmaL, Gardens arc a

stroyed, but the present rains, which are

considerably, as wed as replenish the
water supply. Stock is looking very
thin and bad on account of poor pastures.

Gentlemen—While in San Antonio,
Tex., last spring I saw your advertise
ment of P. P. P. (Prickley Ash, Poke
Root and Potassium) in the paper for the
cure of rheumatism and though*: I woul I
try a bottle; finding such great relief
from it on my return home, I had my
druggist, Mr. John McClellan, to order
me a supply. After taking, I think, ten
bottles, I have not had a pain or ache
since; previous to that I suffered for
twenty- five (25) years, and could not get
the least benefit until I tried P. P. P.,
and therefore take pleasure in recom
mending it to all. Yours truly,

Apples for the Complexion.
“The secret of bad complexion,”
said a well-known physician, recently,
“ is a bad digestion, and we generally
trace that to a bad liver. One of the
best remedies for a sluggish liver is
cheap and pleasant. Dieting is the
secret of the cure. The best liver
regulator for persons whose complex
ions are muddy is to be found in
apples, eaten baked if they are not
well digested when eaten raw. lat
tended'the pupils to a well-known
boarding school, and among them
was a country girl whose complexion
was the envy* of all her associates. I
found that she was a very light eater
at her meals, but she had a peculiar
custom of taking a plate of apples to
her room at night and eating them
slowly as she studied her lessons.
This was her regular practice. Some
of the other girls in the institution
took it up, and 1 know, as a result of
my personal investigation, that the
apple-eating girl had the best com
plexion of any in the school.”
