TAKEN TO ATLANTA
Mr, Jack King Was Arrested
Yesterday -
WARRANT SWORN OUT TUESDAY
And the Marshal Been Here Ever Slrce
—Bond whs Given Last N ght and tbs
Party will Return Today.
Mr. Jack King was arrested yester
day on a warrant charging him with
embezzlement.
Mr. King was in front of Fahy’s
dry goods store on Broad street when
the warrant was served.
The warrant was sworn out by
Charles D. Wood, a stockholder in
the Merchant’s bank yesterday and.
placed in the hands of Deputy Marsh
al Ware, of the federal court in At
lanta, who came to Rome and had
been here ever since.
Mr. Ward and Mr. King walked to
the latter’s office where they remain
ed until time to take the 4 o’clock
train for Atlanta.
Before leaving he was seen by a
Tribune man, but he declined to talk
for publication.
Mr. King’s friends express them
selves as having no fear of the result,
but while quiet on that score they are
noteably displeased that any such
proceedings should be started against
him.
They emphasized the fact that,
nothing had been done in the waj of
proving that he was guilty of wrung
doing. He had been charged with
this just as any citizen of Rome might
be charged with crime by any other
they said by taking out a warrant.
His friends say [that a year and a
half after the failure of the bank these
charges are brought, and that it is
strange they waited, so long if what is
charged |is * true. They expressed
themselves as confident of the result
and they and Mr. King expected him
to come through all right with little
trouble. Judge Branham Major
Fcuche -are his attorneys. Major
Fouche and Mayor 8. 8. King, brothe r
of Mr. J. King, went to Atlanta yes
terday afternoon. His friends stick by
him closely, and declare be is not
guilty and will early prove it. Several
who heard of the trouble called on
him and_offered their sympathy and
services.
At 4 o’clock Mr. Ward, Mr. King and
the others left for Atlanta. News
reached the city last night that he
had given bond and will return today.
The Bench Warrant.
Arrangements had been perfected for
the serving of the bench warrant by an
officer of the federal court who was to
be sent up to Cartersville to meet the
down train.
The .bench warrant was based on alle
gations made by the stockholders that
Mr. King, while president of the bank,
had on two occasions directed the book
keeper to make charges of SIO,OOO in
each case against the bauk on demand
loans and that no paper had been placed
in the bank in either instance to cover
the loans. The other $2,000 was taken
from the bank on a demand loan in a
similar manner by Mr. King, so the al
legations run, and he failed to put up
any collateral.
These are the specific charges but
the attorneys for the stockholders
have in obeyance a number of other
counts charging Mr. King with crook
edness in conducting the affairs of
the bank.
The attorneys for the bank are
Dean & Dear and C. N. Featherstone
who will assist the district attorney
in prosecuting the ease. Mr. King
is defended by some of the ablest
lawyers in Rome, Judge Joel Bran
ham and Fouche & Fouche and Reece
& Denny.

FROM MAINE TO TEXAS
The Tide of Public Opinion is All Favorable to
"Paine’s Celery Compound.' :
OttUlf' It ; ’ I
JR
v . w- ;/
Congressman Bell of Colorado One oi Those Recently Restored
to Health by Paine’s Celery Compound.
There is just now no lack of news
from the western states.
Public opinion in Colorado and lowa
is as promptly and accurately heard
of as from any New England state.
From all over the west come reports
that Paine’s celery compound occu
.pies practically a clear field in the
cure of diseases arising from a tired
or otherwise impaired nervous sys
tem.
No other remedy was ever used by
so many men of sound and reliable
judgment. No remedy but Paine’s
celery compound has ever been rec
ommended by so conspicuously fair
minded a body of men and women.
The balf-bearted experimental efforts
of scores and scores of sarsaparillas,
tonics and so-called nervines, with
which the market is constantly re
cruited, are in startling contrast with
the confident—because thoroughly
scientific—way in which Paine’s cel
ery compound sets about restoring
health and vigor to the worn out
body.
Whj will people be silly enough to
jeopardize their lives aud lessen their
chances of getting well by taking any
thing else?
There is no help so sure and so im
mediate as one gets from the use of
Paine’s celery compound. Detailed
information of innumerable cases of
rheumatism, neuralgia and dyspepsia,
completely cured, has established
this great invigorator as the most val
uable remedy those run down in
health can make use of.

ergy was well nigh exhausted have

great nerve and brain restorative.
' Paine’s celery compound is the
greatest achievement in modern med
icine. It banishes weakness and pain
; as surely as its famous contemporary,
the electrie light, dispels darkness.
Paine’s celery compound frees the
1 body of vicious humors that cause
kidney and liver complaints. Only a
great remedy based on a deep knowl
edge of these diseases could do the
work that Paine’s celery compound is
now doing. Better nutrition for the
nerves, an awakened appetite, puri
fied blood and complete assiinilsTtion —
these follow the conscientious use of
Paine’s celery compound as surely as
day follows night.
If you are alarmed by » throbbing
of the heart, an irritable stomach, or
general debility, be fair with yourself,
use the best means there is, examine
what Paine’s celery compound is do
ing. It has cured an astonishing num
ber of men and women of Bright’s
disease, rheumatism, neuralgia, heart
and liver trouble. No sufferer can
pass lightly over the remarkable rec
ord that Paine’s celery compound has
to show to every sick and ailing per
son.
Among the thousands of testimon
ials received this year is one recently
sent by Congressman John C Bell, of
Colorado, who says he has used three
bottles of this best of all remedies for
dyspepsia and rheumatism, with the
most satisfactory results. Among
the testimonials received since Jan
uary there have been no less than 16
from Congressmen from different
states.
