WILL MEET TUESDAY
Chairman Clay to Issue a Call For Stale
Democratic Committee lifting
TO PL'N FOl THE BIG COMTEST
Fusion of the State K’ec orel Ticket Will
Be|Diacua»ed—Hol Lew a
Not In the Race.
Chairman Clay will call the state
democratic committee together on
Thursday of next week.
The meeting will be an important
one, for it will be devoted to outlining
the plane of the November contest.
The congressional nominees in the
eleven different districts will be in
vited to be present, and so will the
electors and alternates chosen at the
state convention.
This action was determined upon
before the action of the populist state
committee was taken. Necessarily the
proposition from the populists for fu
sion on the electoral ticket will I e
one of the chief topics brought
up for discussion, and in view pf the
limit of time set by the resolutions it
is possible that the state chairman
may call the committee at an earlier
date than he bad determined.
Chairman Clay knew nothing about
the action of the populists last night,
says yesteiday’s Constitution. The
matter was widely discussed, how
ever, about the hotel lobbies by dem
ocratic politicians and it seemed to be
the consensus of opinion that fusion
on the electoral ticket would be valua
ble in Georgia, not only for the effect
here at home, but for the effect
abroad. There was some criticism of
the details of the proposition pre
sented by the populists, but it was
the general opinion that all tangles
could be easily worked out by the
state committee when it considers the
matter formally.
tiUu. Mil Lfiwis Not a Candidate.
Hon. H. T. Lewis, who has been
strongly urged by his home people of
Greene county, and by very many
friends throughout the state, to enter
the contest for the supreme court
bench, has announced that he had
come to the conclusion that he would
not be a candidate.
There is nothing that causes women
greater discomfort and misery than con
stantly recurring headache. Men suffer
with headache. “My wife’s health was
very indifferent, having headache con
tinually, and just two packages of Sim
mons Liver Regulator released her from
all headache and gave tone and vigor to
her whole system. I have never regret
ted its use.”—M. B. Deßord, Mt. Ver

Hew a Legislator's Joko Was T.Zade Into
Law to His Surprise.
Every one knows that Phil Sheridan
said cf Texas, “If I owned Texas and
hell, I’d repj Texas and live in hell.”
Possibly out of respect for so great a
man the Texan's answer was suppressed,
but it was good just the same. He said
with great promptness, “Veil, gia'r'l,
yer know a cuss alters will take up fer
the place l.e cum frum. ”
The Texan has a strong sense of hu
mor, and it manifests itself in other
ways than repartee. The legislator who
proposed that all trains running into
Texas should be detained for ten min
utes at the state line and required to
whistle three times in acknowledgment
of the Sovereignty of the state didn’t
expect to be taken seriously. Ho wasn’t;
but his colleagues thought it would be

The Texas women have their share of
humor, and they can be sarcastic, too,
as the following conversation between
the daughter of a Texas congressman
and u New Yorker at a Washington ball
testifies:
“You are from Texas?” the New
Yorker said in very much the same tone
that he would have used had he asked
if she was from Hawaii or some other
remote place.
“Yes,” she said, smiling sweetly.
“Lotsof cowboys out there,” ho said,
like a man who knew.
“Yes,” she said doubtfully.
“You’ve seen some of course?”
“Oh, yes. ” This in a tone of convic
tion.
“In what part of tho state?” he went
on.
"Oh, I didn’t see any cowboys in
Texas. Tho ones I saw were on Broad
way, New York.”—New York Sun.

T. J. Blackmore, of Haller & Blackmore

procured a bottle of “Mystic Cure.” It got
me out of the house in twenty-four hours.
I took to my bed with Rheumatism nine
months ago and the “Mystic Cure” is the
only medicine that did any good. I had
five of the best physicians in the city, but
received very little reliei irom them. I

Marvelous Results.
From a letter written by Rev. J. Gun
dertnan, of Dimondale, Mich., we are
permitted to make this extract: “I have
no hesitation in recommending Dr.
King’s New Discovery, as the results were
almost marvelous in the case of my wife.
W Bile I was pastor of the Baptist church
at Rives Junction she was brought down
with pneumonia succeeding la grippe.
Terrible paroxysms of coughing would
last hours with little interruption, and it
seemed as if she could no 1 , survive them.
A friend recommended Dr. King’s New
Discovery; it was quick in its work and
highly satisfactory in results.” Trial bot

HIS NEIGHBOR’S WIFE.
One year ago, in lonely state,
I’d sit and gaze across the way
Into a home where, early, late,
At all hours things were bright and gay—
A couple, young and free from care.
Alas, how dreary seemed my life,
For she was blithe and witching fair,
The girl I called my neighbor’s wife.
One year ago! How could they guess
That glimpses of their paradise
And tokens of their happiness
Were oft observed by envious eyes!
I learned to hate the other man:
I swore that ho had wrecked my life,
For could 1 but have changed the plan
Bhe’d not have been my neighbor’s wife.
One year ago, and now there sits
Besifle me, witching, fair and gay,
Tie girl I loved, and now there flits
' Another girl across the way.
Yet I’-nt not false, nor fickle he,
1 And he and I are friends for life.
I Bhe was hie sister, don’t you see?
• And now she is his neighbor’s wife.

Readers of The Tribune have
learned to look forward to each new
and successful achievment of Rome’s
great daily. We have issued several
special editions since the present
management has been in charge and
we are happy to say that each and
e very one has been an improvement
on its predecessor as has been evinced
by the popular public favor with
which they have been received.
■ Early in October we intend to issue
; a special edition which will eclipse
i our previous efforts. Rome is steadily
i growing and there is healthy and sub
stantial improvement going on all
! over the section of country tributary
; to the North Georgia metropolis. Now
■ is the time to keep our advantages
before the people.
In no other way can this be done
quite so successfully as through the
medium of a widely circulated news
paper like The Tribune. Every edi
tion of a special character that we
have gotten out has gone abroad on
its mission of progress and the results
have been made apparent by the at
tention attracted to this section of
1 country.
We have endeavored to make every
edition as full and complete as possi
ble, but in this one we want to cover
the whole ground. All that we ask is
the liberal co-operation of the people
for whom we have labored so earnestly
and for whom we expect to continue
to work as long as we control the des
tiniesofTHE Tribune
It will be to the interest of every
business or professional man in North
( Georgia and North and East Alabama,
I to secure space in this great issue
The merchant, the manufacturer, the
land owner, the mine operator, the
professional man and all who are in
terested in educational, industrial
work, or emigration work, will be
benefitted by represention in its col
umns.
Not less than ten thousand readers,
in every part of the country, and
especially in the West and Northwest,
will read this great edition and profit
, by the information gained from its
columns. Our solicitors are aireddy
out and will make a thorough canvass
of the country contiguous to Rome
and we bespeak for them the consider
ation which they are entitled to in
promoting this laudable enterprise in
the interest of our city and section.

People Don’t Buy Pianos
For looks alone. If they did, any one of

do very well and not cost much.
