lamp for the mantel or centre table.
Such things are invaluable in a grow i:g
family for as little as you may think of it
beautiful things like that have a wonder
fully refining influence on the impression
able minds of the children. Surround
them with beautiful thimzs and they will
learn to love the beautiful.
Captain Steele has never been able to
supply the demaml for vases so he pur
chased a curl >ud this time uud a don’t
know which struck my fancy most, their
cheapness or their beauty. Two ladi< s
came in while I was there and one of
them wanted to look at some “vahzet”
and the other wanted to look at some
•Gazes.” One was from Coosaville and
the other was from Sugar Valley an!
Kendrick waited on them both and they
went away each with an armful of the
pretty things.
But there is another line of vases there
that caught my eye. They are coal vases.
Mag, our house maid, has been using my
last summer’s hat to bring in coal since
the cold snap came but she will use it no
more since I can buy one of those neat,
attractive and ornamental coal vases for
f 1.50 to $2,25. His line of tinware,
wooden ware and house furnishing goods
beats anything 1 ever saw. I believe
that some lady of excellent taste must
have had a hand .in suggesting the pur
chase for it seems hard to believe that
a man could have made such a beautiful
selection.
There is a new and novel line of gold
glass ware that I have set my heart on.
It is so rich and yet so tasty and so cheap.
His sterling silver which is just so chic
is auother thing that caught me. But I
have gossipped enough about those at
tractions. I could write a column about
his new stock of toys, iron express wag
ons, velocipedes and other novelties.
Then it would take a page in The Tribune
to tell about his stock of granite ware and
house furnishing goods generally. If you
want to spend an hour pleasantly just
drop in there and let Kendrick show you
through. Only a few days ago a gentle
man in Meridian, Miss., wrote to a friend
here telling him that if he was going to
buy a wedding present for a certain occa
sion not to fail to call at Steele’s and he
did so and bought a sls dinner set.

GOODS THAT SELL.
Mr. J. E. Winfrey has certainly made
n success of which any young man might
be justly proud since he began >he manu
i.iciure of cigars at No. 22 Broad street,
about a year ago He now makes five
brands, “Sweet Havannh Blossom.”
“Hand Made,” “Prince of Rome.” “VV.
<fc A.,” and “Blue Gray,” the latest brand
being ten cent goods of the most superb
q-.ality. .
Mr. Winfrey is a skilled and experi
enced hand at his trade and keeps con
stantly in his employ first-class cigar
makers turning out ab<>ut 4,000 cigars
per week and yet he is behind with his
orders. The excellent quality of Lis
goods together with his untiring efforts
to please his patrons and his promptitude
in business transactions have won for
him a very high place in the mercantile
world.
His goods find ready sale in Cedartown,
Cartersville, Calhoun, Dalton and alt the
surrounding towns and he will soon have
to increase fiis cajiacity to keep up with
the demand which is steadily growing as
his grinds become more extensively in
torodue'ed.
