IK THE TRIBUNE’S TRADE EDITION
Will Will B) I3,ua<t E rly in November
and Eolipoe All Previous Efforts
In This Line.
Readers of The Tribune have
learned to look forward to each new
and successful achieviuent of Rome’s
great daily. We have issued several
special editions since the present
management has been in charge and
we are happy to say that each and
every one has been an improvement
on its predecessor as has been evinced
by the popular public favor with
which they have been received.
Early in November we intend to issue
a special edition which will eclipse
our previous efforts. Rome is steadily
growing and there is healthy and sub
stantial improvement going on all
over the section of country tributary
to the North Georgia metropolis. Now 1
is the time to keep our advantages 1
before the people. 1
In no other way can this be done .
• .quite so successfully as through the :
medium of a widely circulated news
paper like The Tribune. Every edi- 1
tion of a special character that we i
have gotten out has gone abroad on ;
“* its mission of progress and the results
have been made apparent by the at 1
tention attracted to this section of 1
country. i
We have endeavorad to make every ;
edition as full and complete as possi
ble, but in this one we want to cover .
the whole ground. All that we ask is ]
the liberal co-operation of the people ;
for whom we have labored so earnestly ]
and for whom we expect to continue i
to work as long as we control the des- 1
tinies of The 'Tribune
It will be to the interest of every ]
business or professional man in North
Georgia and North and East Alabama,
to secure space in this great issue :
The merchant, the manufacturer, the
land owner, the mine operator, the
professional man and all who are in- ,
terested in educational, industrial
work, or emigration work, will he
benefitted by represention in its col
umns.
Not less than ten thousand readers,
in every part of the country, and
especially in the West and Northwest, 1
will read this great edition and profit
by the information gained from its
columns. Our solicitors are already
out and will make a thorough canvass ]
of the country contiguous to Rome
and we bespeak for them the consider-'
ation which they are entitled to in
promoting this laudable enterprise in
the interest of our city and section.

Father’s District.
Monday morning those who were
the friends of Judge Crisp got togeth- J
er in active steps to have the young
man elected. It is a well known fact 1
that Charley Crisp is well qualified
for the place. He has been in Wash- 1
ington for a number of years and is .
thoroughly familiar with all congres- j
»ional affairs. He has served in the '
house as clerk, and has been connect
ed in various ways with affairs in line ,
with the duties which would come '
upon a congressman. He had entire ,
charge of the correspondence of Judge (
Crisp and advised with him in many ,
important matters. The father placed ‘
absolute confidence in the judgment
of the son. During the last year he ,

The people of the third district
realize that the young man is qualiti
ed in every sense to fill the office and
have determined that he shall succeed
his illustrious father. The election
will probably be called in a short
while. Other candidates were spokei
of, but when the suggestion became
known that was the intention of
the voters of that district, to elect
Charley Crisp they yielded gladly.
The plan has been determined on and
and it is about settled that there will
be no opposition.

Umbrella Language.
To the language of flowers, well
known to all sympathetic hearts, there
has now been added, as would appear
from a few characteristic specimens
given in a Paris paper, the umbrella
language, in which there is an element
of humor. For instance —to place an
umbrella in a rack at a club or friend’s
house indicates that it will shortly
change owners. If a cotton one is sub
stituted for a silk one it means exchange
is no robbery. An umbrella held over
a lady with a man receiving all the
raindrops from the points indicates
courtship, but when a man keeps the
lion’s share of the covering and the lady
gets the drippingsit points to marriage.
Lastly, the loan of an umbrella is sy
nonymous with an act of egregious
folly.

PROGRESS OF IHE SOUTH.
New Industries Report rd in Dixie During
the Week Jii-t I’ast.
Chattanooga, Oct. 27.—The Trades
man, in its weekly review of southern
industrial conditions, compiled froiA re
ports received from prominent manu
facturers an 1 business men of the south,
notes no especial change since its last
report. Trade in all lines continues
conservative, awaiting the result of the
election. Almost an innovation in traue
circles is the number of contracts con
ditioned unon the election. If they are
placed business generally will be very
active after Nov. 3.
The tone of the iron and steel market
is strong and a gradual rise in prices is
expected when the financial question is
settled. The demand for pig iron con
tinues active, some speculative buying
being noted in Bessemer pig. The
market for finished material is not
strong and low prices are being made in
nearly all lines, whee the orders are for
prompt delivery. The calls for plate
are numerous and some good orders
have been placed.
The lumber business is only fair,
though manufacturers report more fa
vorable indications, and in some sec
tions the volume of trade is already in
creasing. The export trade is steadily
improving, and the mills working ou
oruers of this class have all they can do.
Among the new industries for the
week are the following: Acid works to
cost SIOO,OOO at New Orleans, La.; rail
road shops and roundhouses at Fort
Smith, Ark., approximate cost, SIOO,-
000; the Lignite, Eggette and Uoal com
pany, capital, SIOO,OOO, chartered at
Rockdale, Tex., and the Texas Briquette
sin<l Coal company will build a $43,000
plant at Rockdale.
A $65,000 peanut factory will be built
at Norfolk, Va.; the Richmond cotton
mills, capital $200,000, have been incor
porated at Manchester, Va., and the
Monroe Lumber company, capital $15,-
000, at Fort Washington, Fla. Wood
working plants will be established at
Judsonia, Ark., Moultrie, Ga., Owens

Why is it that we can sell Carpets and
Smyrna Rugs at 50c. on the Dollar?.
Eight years ago the McKinley tariff on Carpets and Rugs gave a great stimulus
to these industries in the United States. Scores of new mills were erected, thousands
of new looms put in to manufacture Carpets and Rugs. The strong competition among
these mills; their increased facilities; their improvements in machinery and manufac
turing; then the. Wilson bill, giving us free wool, have all combined to bring the price
down to a little more than half the price of a few years ago. Few people realize how
cheaply they can buy a floor covering—we want every one to know it.
