Hi THE TRIBUNE’S TRADE EDITION
Will Wilt lit I'sued E<rly In November
and Eclipse All Previous Efforts
lu this Lue.
Readers of The Tribune have
learned to look forward to each new
and successful achieviuent of Rome’s
great daily. We have issued several
special editions since the present
management has been in charge and
we are happy to say that each and
every one has been an improvement
on its predecessor as has been evinced
by ti e popular public favor with
which they have been received.
Early in November we intend to issue
a special edition which will eclipse
our previous efforts. Rome is steadily
growing and there is healthy and sub
stantial improvement going on all
over the section of country tributary
to the North Georgia metropolis. Now
is the time to keep our advantages
before the people.
In no other way can this be done
quite so successfully as through the
medium of a widely circulated news
paper like The Tribune. Every edi
tion of a special character that we
have gotten out has gone abroad on
its mission of progress and the results
have been made apparent by the at
tention attracted to this section of
country.
We have endeavored to make every
edition as full and complete as possi
ble, but in this one we want to cover
the whole ground. All that we ask is
the liberal co-operation of the people
for whom we have labored so earnestly
and for whom we expect to continue
to work as long as we control the des
tinies of The Tribune
It will be to the 'interest of every
business or professional man in North
Georgia and North and East Alabama,
to secure space in this great issue
The merchant, the manufacturer, the
land owner, the mine operator, the
professional man and all who are in
terested in educational, industrial
work, or emigration work, will be
benefltted by represention in its col
umns.
Not less than ten thousand readers,
in every part of the country, and
especially in the West and Northwest,
will read this great edition and profit
by the information gained from its
columns. Our solicitors are already
out and will make a thorough canvass
of the country contiguous to Rome]
and we bespeak for them the consider-i
ation which they are entitled to in
promoting this laudable enterprise in
the interest of our city and seation.
NINE MONTHS IN BED. cYIRED
24 HOURS.
T, J. Blackmore, of Haller & Blackmore
Pittsburg, Pa., says: "A short time since I
procured a bottle of “Mystic Cure.” It got
me out of the house in twenty-four hours.
I took to my bed with Rheumatism nine
months ago and the “Mystic Cure” is the
only medicine that did any good. I had
five of the best physicians in the city, but
received very little reliei Irom them. I
know that Mystic Cure to be what it is rep
resented and take pleasure n racomending
it to ether sufferers.”
CANDY AND MARRIED LIFE.
Why Some Husbands Don’t Supply Their
Wives With Confectionery.
“Oh, how perfi'ctly lovely!” said the
girl in the pink dress. ‘‘l do so dote on
candy. ”
“Especially chocolate nougat,” de
clared the young woman in white.
“It is just too sweet for anything.”
“Where did you get them? Was it
Charley or Bob?”
“It was Charley,” replied the girl
with the box in her hand. “Ho always
has the nicest candy. ”
“But you like Bob best?”
“Agnes, dear, you are entirely too in
quisitive.”
“You mustn’t get married if you like
candy. ”
“What has that to do with it?”
“Didn’t you ever bear that the men
who buy candy before you get married
never buy you any after they are mar
ried?”
“Is that so?”
“That’s what the papers say.”
“Pooh! I don’t believe a word of it!
But, then, that’s just like some of the
horrid men. I know one who won’t do
it. ”
“O!i, I say, girls. What luck! Here
comes Maud. .We’ll ask her about it.”
“You’d never dare.”
“Wouldn't I, though?”
Maud drew near, and all the girls
giggled merrily.
“Oh, Maud, you’re married, aren't
you?” '
“Why, what a silly question! Were
not vou one of the bridesmaids?”

) “Oh, yes, we all saw her, and she
looked just perfectly killing.”
“Well, I wanted to ask you a ques
tion.”
“Certainly, dear. What is it?”
“ Well, does Dick buy you any candy
now that you are married? You know
he used to buy you lets of it—whole
candy stores full—before.”
"No, he doesn’t. ”
“What did 1 tell you?” exclaimed
the girl in pink. “It is just what J
said.”
“Well, maybe they are not all like
Dick. ”
“What do you mean?” exclaimed
Maud. “I never did see such a girl.
Why didn’t you let me finish saying
what I wanted to say? I was going to
say something and you broke right in.
I was going to say that he doesn’t buy
any candy because I don’t want him to.
What’s his is mine, and I just take his
money and buy it whenever I want it.
It is a much better arrangement, too,
for I buy the kind I like and he seldom
did.”—Chicago Times-Herald.
‘—The Coming Gown.
If there’s one thing more certain than
another about the coming gown, it is
that it will be trimmed. Not just skirt
alone, nor yet just bodice alone, but
both will be heavily, richly and elabo
rately burdened with every sort of trim
ming. Is it that fashion, deprived of
her beloved big sleeves, must have some
other outlet and finds it in frills and
frippery? From present indications it
seems likely that plain skirts—skirts,
that is to say, unembellished by ruffles
or bands or tucks or even a slight drapery
—will soon have disappeared from mor
tal view. As for bodices, well, sleevSs
may be close reefed. But what of the
multitudinous flounces and shirrings
and gatherings and drapings?. Surely
nothing short of “in full sail” describes
them.
Embroidery is the most imperative
detail of the coming gown. Have your
new fall frock embroidered in however
insignificant a w’ay, and you will have
given it a stamp that may not, it is
true, by right belong to it, but which"
will mean “from Paris.” And most
impressive of all, it will mean that your
new fall frock will cost “a sight” more
than it would unembroidered. The pres
ent tendency to trimming altogether,
indeed, means that People may talk
about the costliness of simplicity and
the price you have to pay for exquisite
plainness, but as a matter of fact that
sort of thing doesn’t really “come near
as high” as the velvets, silks, passe
menterie, embroidery and other delect
able devices for wheedling pence out of
pockets that the present season is so in
dustriously planning.-—New York Sun.
The Visiting Card Trick.
“Lady 8., Carlton House, Park Lane,
W. ” This was the address which an
overdressed, dowdy looking woman re
cently gave to a fashionable west end
stationer to be engraved on 100 visiting
cards, and five quires of the most ex
pensive note paper.
The stationer, whose suspicions were
aroused, communicated with the police,
with the result that a watch was set,
and it was soon discovered that every
card and every piece of note paper were
being employed for obtaining goods and
money from the credulous under false
pretenses. The woman was no more
Lady B. than her address was Park
lane. She was, in fact, a man for whom
the police had long been in search. —

A Mean, Mean Man.
In the town of Griffin, Ga., a good
looking, well to do bachelor was being
teased by the young ladies of a club for
not being married. He said, “I’ll marry
the one of you whom, on a secret vote,
you elect to be my wife. ” There were
nine members of the club. Each girl
went into a corner and used great cau
tion in preparing her ballot and disguis
ing her handwriting. The result of the
vote was that there were nine votes
cast, each girl receiving one. The man
remains a bachelor, the club is broken
up, and the girls, all mortal enemies,
united in the one determination that
they will not speak to the man again.—

TIME
TRIED
Time proves the worth of every
thing. It is the test of honesty. It
wears off the exterior and exposes the
solidity or the worthlessness beneath.
There is nothing more susceptible
to time'than a piano. The Kranich &
Bach is a piano which has stood the
test of time, which has stood well in
tone, which keeps its perfect action
and elastic touch is as good as any
we can offer yon. Beware of judging
hastily. Most pianos sound alike
when they are new. I will be glad to
help any one to piano wisdom who
cares to learn.

Why is it that we can sell Carpets and
Smyrna Rugs at 50c. on the Dollar?
Eight years ago the McKinley tariff on Carpets and Rugs gave a great stimulus
to these industries in the United States. Scores of new mills were erected, thousands
of new looms put in to manufacture Carpets and Rugs. The strong competition among
these mills; their increased facilities; their improvements in machinery and manufac
turing; then the Wilson bill, giving us free wool, have all combined to bring the price
down to a little more than half the price of a few years ago. Few people realize how
cheaply they can buy a floor covering—we want every one to know it.
