YoKKVii.bR, S. C., Nov. G..-The case
of the statue Against M. R.' Keeit, Daniel
F. Luckie and Mrs. Ellen Anderson,
charged, with the murder of Charles T.
Williams, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., at Blacks
burg, S. C., on the night of the 6th of
February last, was called yesterday rnorn
at 11 o'clock.
Every seat in the court house was occu
pied and the aisks were packed with In.
terested spectators. The three defendants
were arraigned together, with Reese in
prison dock, Luckie on his right and
Mrs. Anderson on his left. Reese and
Luckie appeared calm and collected, but
the condition of Mrs. Anderson verged
on physical collapse. She was dressed in
solid black and wore a thick black veil,
thaf concealed her face. Her sister, Mrs.
Quinn Calloway, of Dalton, Ga., stood
beside her and helped sustain her through
the ordeal.
All three pleaded not guilty, and the
work of impaneling a jury was entered
upon.
In this state the venire consists of thir
ty-six men. Six had been excused and
there were left only thirty. The state had
a right to five peremptory challengesand
the three defendants to twenty. The
state exhausted its five challenged, three
jurors were disqualified by reason of their
connection with the case, and by the
defense had exhausted twelve challenges
and secured ten jurors the venire was ex
hausted. A special venire of fifteen was
summoned, and from these the two re
maining jufors were secured.
The testimony as adduced so far is
in accordance with the Tribune’s re
ports already printed and that of the
coroner’s jury. Today’s developments
may be of an extremely sensational
character. An effort will be made to
keep out all young boys and unmarried
women by the pastors of the churches
in this section. When the husband
of Mrs. Anderson steps in today or
tomorrow it will throw a bomb in the
camp that is not expected by the at
torneys for Reese and Luckie as they
have been expecting to throw the
murder on Mr. Anderson’s shoulders.
The interest here is intense and every
inch of the court room is packed long
before the hours for trial.

The president-elect has not attempted
as yet to answer any of the great mass
of telegrams aud letters which have
been deluged upon him, except in the
instances of Chairman' Hanna, Mr.
Bryan and one or two others. The tele

Possibly later, when normal condi

adopted by Mr. Cleveland.
AS far as possible Mr. McKinley will
give the communications his personal
attention.
Some unique messages have reached

that a woman presidential elector would

A General Revival of Business.
San Francisco, Nov. 6.—The most
significant feature of the revival of bus
iness resultant on the election of l 'Mc-
Kinley is the talk of mills opening in
the near future, industries about to be
started and new chances for employ
ment of mechanics, ejerks aud laboring
men. The Valley road directors are
already preparing bonds with a view, of
promptly resuming Construction south
of Fresno and in other directions. This
work will employ several hundred
workmen. The Southern Pacific’s man
agers anticipate a boom in freight busi
ness and look to giving increased em
ployment iu the car shops and along
the road in consequence of this improve
ment. In all directions are heard ru
mOrs of an encuraging nature.
