Noise and prejudice are not argu

The devil wouldn't have a political

Practical politics is that which will

The church is teaching too much gos

The question now is whether the pop

CAPT. J. D. JOHNSON.
To all whom it may concern: I take
great pleasure in testifying to the efficient
qualities of the popular remedy sot
eruptions of the skin known as P. P. P
(Prickley Ash, Poke Root and Potassium).
I suffered several years with an unsightly ,
and disagreeable eruption on my face. ;
and tried various remedies to retnoVej* t, i
none of which accomplished the object, !
until this valuable preparation was r - I
sorted to. After taking three bottles, in!
accordance with directions, I am now en
tirely cured. J. D. Johnson.

Aa to Advertising.
Some merchants seem to hold to the
opinion that every dollar spent in ad
vertising is just that much th.own
away; or if pot that, just so much con
tributed to the publisher of the paper
because he is always hard up and
needy.
If these people will glance over the
advertising pages of the Rome, Atlanta
or Chattanooga papers they will see
how badly they are mistaken.
Take, for instance, four or five of the
leading firms in Rome, who do the bulk
of the dry goods business, arid they are
all liberal advertisers. They know that
printer's ink judiciously used, is a
wohderful aid to drawing trade, and they
act accordingly.
° - Q .j f• i fp 11 2M C!
The shrewd, wide awake merchants bfi
Atlanta do not. pay $125 , a page for a
single issue in the Journal or Constitution,
for charity's sake. It is strictly a matter
of business. When they pay these see
mingly exorbitant priyes for advertising
space, they expect, and receive large re
turns from the outlays; and tire very fact
that tiicy keep up this line qf policy lib—
eraly expenditure for advertising pur
pose from year to year is the best eyi
possible that it pays them handsomely.-- (
Dig down to the cause, of your sick
ness. if you want to get well apd stay
well. Most likely it’s indigestion. The
irritating poisons of fermenting, putrid
food, left in the stomach by indi
gestion, cause headache,, neuralgia,
nervousness, dizziness, stomach aelie,
nausea, irritability, and ail the other
we'l-kuown symptoms of indigestion
They also cause many pains anrii
disorders which are often ltrid to other
causes and hence are not easily cured.
But as soon as the poisons are ,re,
moved, all these symptoftffe
odeis dsrpjear, because there is
nothing left to cause them. Nothing
su< c re.is in this like Shaker Digestive
Cordial, because it prevents the undi
gested food from fermenting in the

A Sea of Pigtails Watcjied a Twist Drill

An interesting account of a visit to a
Chinese aWeiial near Fechau is given
by a correspondent of Cassier’s Maga

“Taking out two drills, I sent them

was in a large, well lighted naaebiue

was built and equipped by French engi

“The native foreman examined my
tools with great interest and called in
several assistants; All looked puzzled
and did not seeffi, to know whiit they
were for. Walking to a'drill press, I
took out the flat drill,-and, after con
siderable packing around tad shank,
succeeded in getting one of taper

the spindle. There must have let nut)
Chinamen working in the room, and
every cue had gathered around this

took a long tool, made from

up to the table of the drill press. He
shook his brad, intimating that the
twist drill could not go through, and
the crowd cf workmen emitted grunts
of approval. >
“The press started, the lips of the

The men elbowed me to one side. There
was a sea cf pigtails bendiiTg down,
watching the marvelous action of that

the expressions of wonderment in

time that they broke off they were eager

Not to Be Resisted.
Some years ago, at a session of the
legislature of Kentucky, an effort to re
peal-the Jaw offering a bounty on foxes’
scalps was made, but was defeated by
the appeal of a membey from a moun
tainous and sparsely settled region.
“Dojthe gentlerhen want to deprive
my constituents and me of the benefits
of hearing the gospel preached?” he de
manded, with indignation in hie tone
and overspreading his rugged counte
nance..//” We are all Methodists up my
way, and our preachers wen t come
without we can give ’em chickens, I
know* We can’t raise chiokuus unjesff
the foxes me killed by somebody, that’s;
’sure, fmd there ahi't anybody that dan
afford to spend their time hunting foxes
and get nothing’lo ph/ for it.
“So, gentlemen, if you repeal this
law, you’ll be depriving my constituents
of the benefit of hetfring the gospel
preached. That’s the way it looks to
me!”
This reasoning was too much for the
legislature, mid for +h& time being the
law was not repealed.—Youth’s Com-
