INVITED TO ATLANTA
Mayor ol Rome Receives a Card From
Mayor King of Atlanta
WILL WHXESS THE BIG PARiDE
Ptepirn*i n 8 Are Bring: M ide Fra Fine
Dis, lay Os the Police. Fire HEd > Mil
itary Deptr ments.
Hon. S. S. King, Mayor of Rome,
has -ecieved an invitation to attend a
big jollification in Atlanta.
Mayor Porter King has issued invi
tations to the mayors of the principal
towns and cities of Georgia, asking
them to be present at the first annual
parade and review of the police, fire
and sanitary department of
which is to take place on Thursday,
November 19th.
It is expected that a large number
of them will be on hand. A reviewing
stand is to be erected at the site of the
old artesian well, at the juncture of
Peachtree and Marietta streets and
Edgewood avenue, and the visiting
mayors have been invited to partici
pate with the mayor and council of
Atlanta in reviewing the parade.
Preparations for the parade are go
ing on rapidly and it will undoubted
ly be a great success Great rivalry
exists between the three city depart
ments and each will do its best to
make a finer showing than the other.
The firemen will have their fire ma
chines burnished and glistening in the
sunlight. They will give an exhibi
tion of their skill in handling the fire
apparatus.
The police have their regular drills
and they will go through them with
clock-like regularity for the benefit of
the spectators. Every' man feels a
great interest in the review and will
do his best to make the police paiade
the finest exhibition of the day.
The sanitary department has only
twenty uniformed men, while the fire
men have one hundred and the pol ce
one hundred and seventy-two. In spite
of the odds against them Inspector Veal
of the health department is on his met
tle and his men, all of whom will be
splendidly mounted, will certainly show
as much discipline and order when in
the parade as either ot the two large de
partments
Complete arrangements for the pa
rade have not been made, but the plans
are rapidly being consummated and
when the review comes off there is no
doubt that every citizen of Atlanta will
beproudofthe men who protect their
homes and loved ones from violence,
fire and disease.
One feature of the review of the de
partments which is being considered
by the men having it in charge, but has
not yet been decided on, is a suggestion
to have the fire department come to the
reviewing stand on the run, in response
to a regular alarm from an ijlarm box
near the artesian well site.
The scheme was carried out a few
months ago in New York in order to
show the visitor, Li Hung Chang, of
China, what the New York fire de
partment could do. It was not only
a fine exhibition of the power of the
New York fire department, but it was
tine entertainment for the visitors who
came to New York for the purpose of
seeing the children. With the full
police department out on parade, the
policemen could be used to keep back
4he crowds when the alarm was
sounded, so that the fire department
could have a free field for their man
oeuvers.
In no city in the south do the resi
dents take greater pride in the fire
department than in Atlanta, and
whenever an alarm is sounded hun
dreds of people rush to their stores
and houses and line the streets for
blocks down which the firemen rush.
If the fire laddies of Atlanta are al
lowed to give such an exhibition of
their ability to fight flames as was
displayed by the New Y’ork firemen
before Li Hung Chang, the whole city
will turn out to witness it and throngs
of visitors will come tjo Atlanta from
surrounding towns and cities.
Whether this plan of entertainment
for the spectators will be decided
upon or not is not yet known—at any
rate the hose will be attached to the
water pipes and several streams of
water will be played in the air to ex
hibit the strength of Atlanta’s water
wjrks in case of fire.

There is Strength and Health in This
Greatest of Discoveries!
At Every Stage of Life Where Renewed Nervous Energy, Pure Blood, Freedom from Pain,
and Normal Conditions are Despaired of, Paine's Celery Compound is the
One Remedy That Will ReaUy Make You Well!
The first women in the land have good reason to recommend to every suf
ferer Paine’s celery compound.
The proprietors’ of Paine’s celery compound are not “patent medicine
men.”
They claim not one whit more for this wonderful remedy than it will ac
complish.
They resort to no schemes to sell it; they offer no prizes. They believe in
the only kind of advertising that can be profitable in the end; that is the re
commendations that go by letter or word of mouth from those whom Paine's
celery compound has benefitted, to suffering friends, relatives and neigh
bors ’ The proprietors of this remedy have given out for publication the
voluntary testimonials of grateful women and men, who owe their health to
Paine’s celery compound; they never change a writer’s words or exaggerate a
person’s importance; they never placard a plain citizen with titles; they
never call a simple cure a miracle.
Paine’s celery compound is today the least advertised of any prominent
remedy, and yet its output is far greater than them all. The demand for
Paine’s celery compound is steadily, daily growing, while the sales of every
one of the artfully but dishonestly advertised “patent medicines” are fast
dropping off.
