Jacksonville, Ala., Nov. 16.—Cir
cuit court which has been in session
for two weeks has adjourned. Mack
Kirksey, colored, who was convicted
of murder, was sentenced to the peni
tentiary for ten years. Three others
were convicted and sentenced to the
penitentiary, but for a shorter period.
The county commissioners of Cal
houn county, who have been in ses
sion this week, after a careful investi
gation have reached the conclusion
that it would be best to have passed a
bill during the present session of the
legislature authorizing an issuance of
bonds sufficient to cover the indebted
ness of the county. By issuing bonds
two per cent, interest can be saved
for the outstanding indebtedness, and
from six to ten per cent, on all con
tracts which the county makes as
long as the present indebtedness ex
ists. It is very probable that the leg
islature will take action upon such a
bill.

This experience is like that of all who
suffer with deep-seated blood troubles.

their resorts to the knife prove either

The Tattlers’ league, (a flourishing
club of Chulio) held a most interest
ing meeting Saturday last. Solomon
Blabmoutb, the president elect, was
at his best. The subject of “So and

with great earnestness. Miss Tattle

dissecting “So and So’’ completely.
He is “vain, conceited, stingy,

She was followed by Messrs. “Tom,
Dick and Harry’’ who used the dissect

and So” soon thereafter arrived and
was cordially admitted into the club’s
confidence, and became an active
member. Miss “What’s-her-name”
was the next topic discussed audit
proved one of great interest. It was
shown conclusively that “she thought
herself a beauty imagined she is real

really she is despised by every ac

LULU DETERMINED To DIE.
“he Took Morphine, Whiskey *n<i Turpen
tine With Suicidal Intent
Gadsden, Ala. November 15 —Lulu
Stinson, a good looking young woman
living near Hillman’s furnace, at
tempted suicide this afternoon at 3
o’clock by the morphine route, com
bined with turpentine and Wh s y.
She took 25 cents worth of morphine,
two ounces of spirits of turpentine
and a pint of whiskey. Dr. Liddell
was hastily summoned and attended
to her and she apparently was getting
all right. But later, about 6 o’clock,
she grew worse and it seems she must
have procured some more of the poi
son. When reached again she was
nearly dead her pulse having ceased
beating. Some young men took her
out in the road and walked her for
about two hours until Dr. Liddell ar
rived again, when she was given res
toratives. At a late hour she was out
of danger, but it is thought she will
complete the job, as this is the
woman’s second attempt at suicide,
she having tried it only a short time
ago in Anniston. Jealousy and dis
appointment in love are the causes.

While th meeting is a secret one, it is
understood that it is its purpose to dis
cuss the best methods f< » exposing the
alleged frauds practiced by Democratic
election officers in the recent election.
It is. claimed that if a fair count could
be secured in five West Tennessee coun
ties it would give the state to the Re
publicans.
Why the Reforms Were Granted.
London, Nov. J6.—The Daily Mail’s
Constantinople correspondent asserts
that the concessions of reforms to M.
Camber, the French ambassador, is a
mere financial comedy, with a view to
raising a loan in Paris to avert the other*
wise inevitable financial crisis.

F —I ROME I
I INDUSTRIES AND INSTITUTIONS. I
If Rome would become more prosperous its home institutions must be patroniz d
by Rome people Its wonderful resources and advantages for manufacturing will avail
nothing unless our factories and wholesale merchants are encouraged and sustained by
that local pride and patronage, which are the secret of the growth and prosperity of
many less favored cities.
The Tribune is earnestly enlisted in the work of keeping Rome money in circula
tion at home. With this purpose the following list of Rome merchants, industries and
institutions has been compiled. We recommend every institution and article mentioned
in this column as worthy of the support and patronage of all citizens :
