IB THE TRIBUNE’S TRADE EDITION
Will Will Be le»ued E rly In Decmiber
and Eclipae all Previous Efforts
In This Line.
Readers of The Tribune have
learned to look forward to each new
and successful aebievment of Rome’s
great daily. We have issued several
special editions since the present
management has been in charge and
we are happy to say that each and
every one has been an improvement
on its predecessor as has been evinced
by the popular public favor with
which they have been received.
Early in December we intend to issue
a special edition which will eclipse
our previous efforts. Rome is steadily
growing and there is healthy and sub
stantial improvement going on all
over the section of country tributary
to the North Georgia metropolis. Now
is the time to keep our advantages
before the people.
In no other way can this be done
quite so successfully as through the
medium of a widely circulated news
paper like The Tribune. Every edi
tion of a special character that we
have gotten out has gone abroad on
its mission of progress and the results
have been made apparent by the at
tention attracted to this section of
country.
We have endeavorad to make every
edition as full and complete as possi
ble, but in this one we want to cover
the whole ground. All that we ask is
the liberal co-operation of the people
for whom we have labored so earnestly
and for whom we expect to continue
to work as long as we control the des
tinies of The Tribune
It will be to the interest of every
business or professional man in North
Georgia and North and East Alabama,
to secure space in this great issue
The merchant, the manufacturer, the
land owner, the mine operator, the
professional man and all who are in
terested in educational, industrial
work, or emig ’>ion work, will be
benetitted by represention in its col
umns.
Not less than ten thousand readers,
in every part of the country, and
especially in the West and Northwest,
will read this great edition and profit
by the information gained from its
columns. Our solicitors are already
out and will make a thorough canvass
-of the country contiguous to Rome
and we bespeak for them the consider
ation which they are entitled to in
promoting this laudable enterprise in
the interest of our city and section.

Rheumatism
Is a blood disease and only a blood reme
dy can cure it. So many people make
the mistake of taking remedies which
' at best are only tonics and cannot possi
bly reach their trouble. Mr. Asa Smith,
Greencastle, Indiana, says: “For years
I have suffered with Sciatic Rheuma
tism, which the best physicians were un
able to relieve. I took many patent
medicines but they did not seem to
reach my trouble. I gradually grew
worse until I was un
able to take my food
or handle myself in
any way; I was abso

bottles of S.S.S. re-
Heved me so that I
soon able to move

long I could walk
across the room, and
when I had finished one dozen bottles
was cured completely and am as well as
ever. I now weigh 170.”

death in case of a refusal. The system
devised for trapping this species-of the
gentry consists of a drop fitted in the
floor in front of the pay window and
so nicely adjusted as to bo unnoticed ex
cept upon close examination. The drop
ping of the trap is effected by a knob
on the inside and readily accessible to
the cashier. Directly beneath the drop
a shoot extends downward about six
feet and converging to a point at the
bottom. The sides of this shoot are
lined with spiked which project inward
and downward. When Mr. Robber steps
to the window and makes his demand,
the cashier grabs the money with one
hand, as if to deliver it, says, "All
right, here you are,” and with the oth
er turns the knob that unlatches the
drop, when “down goes McGinty,”
wedged into the shoot between the
spikes, from which no amount of curs
ing will extricate him, and the bank
partition, being bulletproof, if he
chooses to shoot, it only adds to the
alarm already given by the bank’s offi
cials, which brings the police to bag
the game so effectually caught.—New

A Bird That Shaves Itself.
The lammergeyer, or bearded vulture,
found throughout the whole mountain
chains of the old world, actually shaves
himself. The expert barber, who has
for his customers crusty millionaires,
could not ply the keen edged razor to
the stubby beard of his particular pa
tron more deftly than the monarch of
the mountain tops prunes his own bris
tly beard.
The head of the vulture is clothed
with feathers, and from the sides of the
under mandible proceeds a row of black
bristles. From this peculiar projection
of feathers the bird derives his name. A
layer cf similar bristles begins at the
eye and covers the nostrils, forming a
fleecy mustache.
With his strong and sharp claws,
which act as the razor, he begins to
trim his fibrous whiskers with great
care and dexterity. He does this with
great regularity, and soon the downy
beard and mustache give way to a fall
growth of bristly feathers.—San Fran
cisco Examiner.

Little Courtesy Among Travelers.
“I am sorry to have to say it,’’re
marked a sleeping car conductor, “but
somehow—and I have no explanation
for it—men traveling are not as cour
teous and accommodating to lady trav
elers as they should be. The men who
ask for all - kinds of accommodations,
when they have their wives, sisters or
female relatives traveling with them—
and they never fail then to claim every
thing in sight—are in many cases the
men who decline to give similar favors
to other lady passengers. As a matter
of fact the upper berths in a sleeping
car are the best, the best ventilated,
and I think experience has shown the
safest in cases of wreck. Still, the de
mand is nearly always for the lower
berths, because it is easier to get into
them. This is particularly so with lady
travelers. In my last half dozen trips
from and back to this city I have had
more than the usual percentage of lady
passengers, and I have not succeeded in
one case in getting any of the men trav
elers to surrender a lower berth for an
upper berth. The men, being more ex
perienced, secured the lower berths and
refused to give them up.’’—Washing

I INDUSTRIES AND INSTITUTIONS.!
If Rome would become more prosperous its home institutions must be patroniz d
by Rome people Its wonderful resources and advantages for manufacturing will avail
nothing unless our factories and wholesale merchants are encouraged and sustained by
that local pride and patronage, which are the secret of the growth and prosperity of
many less favored cities.
The Tribune is earnestly enlisted in the work of keeping Rome money in circula
tion at home. With this purpose the following list of Rome merchants, industries and
institutions has been compiled. We recommend every institution and article mentioned
in this column as worthy of the support and patronage of all citizens:
