CAPT. J. D. JOHNSON.
To all whom it may concern: I take
great pleasure in testifying to the efficient
qualities of the popular remedy for
eruptions of the skin known as P. P. P.
(Prickley Ash. Poke Root and Potassium).
I suffered several years with an unsightly
and disagreeable eruption on my face,
and tried various remedies to remove it,
none of which accomplished the object,
until this valuable preparation was re
sorted to. After taking three bottles, in
accordance with directions, I am now en
tirely cured. J. D. Johnson.

Something About Partridges.
Among the habits of the partridge
one is that when a covey is roosting on
the ground, with their tails bunched to
gether in a circle, the bunch is sur
mounted by a line of watchful heads,
like sentinels on duty. Another is that
they run the instant the ground is
touched after a “flush,” the dogs often
trailing them in rabbit hunting fashion.
Their sense of smell is evidently very
acute, for during the nesting season, if
the eggs, which number from 10 to 20,
are disturbed in any way or a hand even
inserted in the nest, it will be immedi
ately deserted and a new one built. A
short time previous to the nesting the
males are often involved in desperate
combats for the choice of mates, who
stand by and quietly watch the encoun
ter, seeming not to care which one be
comes the victor. The incubation is
performed entirely by the female, the
male, when not feeding, often being
perched on some slight elevation, on-

of “bobwhite.” Two ami sometimes
three broods of young are reared during
a season, the nesting beginning as early
as May 1. Later in the fall the broods
of young occasionally join forces, but
whether from a want of company or for
protection is not known.
When feeding, tiie birds are some
times scattered several yards apart, but
at the first sign of danger an alarm is
given, and they immediately “bunch,”
with their heads placed close together,
as if in consultation. The first shot into
a covey will often cause them to break
and fly in all directions, and if not dis
turbed again for several minutes “scat
ter calls” will be heard on every side.
These are made tk> collect the remaining
birds, who again bunch. Many of the
market gunners seem to have no qualms
of conscience and very often kill with
out hesitation an entire covey, when at
least one or two pairs of birds should
be left for breeders.—Baltimore Suu.
THEYTOICULE IT.
M »ny People Ridicule the Ideaof an Absolute
Care for Dyspepsia and Stomach
Trouble?.
Ridicule. Bowevcr, Is Not Argument, and
Facts are Stubborn Things.
Stomach troubles are so common, and
in many cases so obstinate to cure that
people are apt to look with suspicion on
any remedy claiming to be a radical, per.
manent cure for dyspepsia and indiges
tion. Many such pride themselves on
their acuteness in never being hum
bugged, especially on medicines.
This fear of being humbugged may be
(juried too far. so far, in fact, that, many
persons sutler for years with weak diges
tion rather than risk a little time and
money in faithfully testing the claims of
a preparation so reliable and universally
used as Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets.
Now Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tab'ets are
vastly different in one important respect
from ordinary proprietary medicines for
the reason that they ai e not a secret
patent medicine, no secret is made of
their ingredients, but analysis shows them
to contain the natural digestive ferments,
pure aseptic pepsin, the digestive acids,
Golden Seal, bismuth, hydrastis and mix.
They are not cathartic, neither do they
cure indigestion on the common sense
plan of digesting the food eaten thor
oughly before it has time to ferment, sour
and cause the mischief. This is the only
secret of their success.
Cathartic pills never have and never
can cure indigestion and stomach troubles
because they act entirely upon the bowels,
whereas the whole trouble is really in
the stomach.
Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets, taken after
meals, digest the food. That is all there
is to do it. Food not digested or half
digested is poison as it creates gas, acidity,
headaches, palpitation of the heart, loss
of flesn and appetite and many other
troubles which are often called by some
other name.
They are sold by druggists everywhere
at 50 cents per package. Address Stuart
Co., Marshall, Meh., for little book on
stomach diseases, seat free.
Take Laxative Bromo-Quinine Tab
lets. All druggists refund the money if
it fails to cure. 25c.

wi sere Woman Proposes.
Between the mountains of India and
Persia is a powerful tribe among whom
an extraordinary custom prevails. Wom
an’s rights have apparently received full
recognition, for the ladies of the tribe
can choose their own husbands. All a
single woman has to do when she wish
es to change her state is to send a serv
ant to pin a handkerchief to the hat of
the man on whom her fancy lights, and
he is obliged to marry her, unless he
can show he is too poor to purchase her
nt the price her father requires.
The Ideal Panacea.
James L. Francies, Aiderman, Chicago,
says: “I regard Dr. King’s New Dis
covery as an Ideal Panacea for Coughs,
Colds and Lung Complaints, having used
it in my family for the last five years, to
the exclusion of physician’s prescriptions
or other preparations,”
Rsv. John Burgus, Keokuk, lowa,
writes: “I have been a Minister of the
Methodist Church for 50 years or more,
and have never found anything so bene
ficial or that give me such speedy relief
as Dr. King’s New Discovery.” Try this

Mountain Climbing.
In a sketch of Sir William Martin
Conway, the mountain climber and ex
plorer of the Himalayas, The English
Illustrated Magazine says that lie has
the “climber’s walk”—that is, a gen
tle roll of the body, with no unequal
steps, but swinging his legs with rhyth
mic precision. He is a slim man, but
tough, full of energy and with iron
muscles. When climbing the Himala
yas, he spent 84 days on snow and gla
cier. During that time he traversed
from end to end the three longest known
glaciers in the world outside the polar
regions and lauded on the summit of
Pioneer peak, 22,000 feet high, the
greatest height yet reached by man.
