Only One Left.
With the death of Mr. Caleb Demp
sey it leaves only one charter name
on the roster of the Rainbow Fire
Company, that is Capt.W. M. Towers.
A Pleasant Kyeaing.
Last evening, from 4 o’clock until
10, the ladies of the Young Men’s
Library Association served tea to their
friends at the library rooms They
furnished delicious tea and other
delicacies, and a large number of vis
itors enjoyed the evening under their
agreeable auspices.
A BU Kick.
Again the attention of The Tribune has
been called to the fact of the Second ave
nue bridge being torn up during the day
time and greatly impending the necessary
traffic between the city and East Rome.
The complaints are in no uncertain terms.
They all want to know why this work
can’t be done at night when there is com
paratively little or no traffic but The
Tribune cannot say.
Coroae.** Jaiy Verdict.
Yesterday Dr. McCall, foreman,
with Mr. J. T. Helm, secretary, and
Messrs. J. W. Whitfield, J. H. Duke.
R. C. Haya and R. C. Coxwell were
empanelled and sworn in as a jury to
enquire into the death of Mr. Parr,
the old man run down by the C., R. &
C. R. R. shifting engine Monday.
They returned a verdict that he came
to his death by locomotive number
two of that company.
Dr. ■•Call Endorsed.
Messrs. McConnell, Phillips and
Earle who are in charge of the sick at
the jail, couviot camps and poor house,
respectively have given strong en
dorsements of Dr. D. T. McCall’s
fidelity to duty as county physician.
The colered ministers and physicians
have not only heartily endorsed his
past conduct, but have petitioned the
county commissioners in the strongest
terms to reappoint him county
physician.
Tie Factory Bold.
Sheriff McConnell sold the Rome
Cotton Tie factory yesterday under
cleims held against the Bali Steel and
Iron Co., who were unable to meet
their indebtedness. Mr. Harper Ham
ilton bid it in, and it is learned that
there is a party with ample capital
who will take hold of the plant at
once, make the necessary repairs and
put it to work by not later than Jan
uary first. Thus Rome will get an
other idle industry running on full
time which now about completes the
list. _
Others have found health, vigor and
vitality in Hood’s Sarsaparilla, and it
surely has power to help you also. Why
not try it?

DIED IN HIS CHAIR
One of tne Oldest Romans Passed

HE WAS READY EOR ;THE SUMMONS
He Talked to HU Wife and Said He Wan

Before Di- <l.
One of the oldest citiz°ns of Rome
and Floyd county is dead.
Mr. Caleb M. Dempsey died late
Monday afternoon and so quiet was
the occurrence that but few knew of
it until yesterday morning.
He died while sitting in an armed
rocking chair, but a few minutes be
fore he expired he told his wife that
he was going and that he was ready.
He asked that his son Dick be sent for
who had only left him a short while
before. Dick came, but the old gentle
man bad quietly and peacefully
breathed bis last.
Mr. Dempsey has been living in
Rome and this county all his life and
was 70 years old. He was a good con
federate soldier and a member of the
famous Cherokee artillery. He took
great pride in all that tended to push
Rome forward to metropolitanism.
He was a charter member of the Rail;
bow Fire company and was its first
driver and he was a member up to his
death.
The company will turn out today to
his funeral, which will occur at 2:30 this
afternoon at the Second Methodist church
in the Fourth ward, Rev. Mr. Hunnicutt
officiating.
Dempsey left a wife and eight children
to mourn his loss. He was for a long
time an honorable member of the Rome
police department.
His death was due directly to heart
failure, but he has been ill nearly all the
J ear. The friends of the family also of
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Dempsey are invited
to be present at the funeral.
Mr. Dempsey was a familiar figure in
Rome and was universally esteemed for
his many good qualities. During a long
life, filled with useful work and generous
deeds, he proved himself loyal and true
to his friends and to the best interest of
of the community.
He will be sadly missed by a large
circle of friends and his family, to whom
he was devoted, have the sympathy of all
in their bereavement.

THE OLD WaT
O' Treatlrg Dyspepsia and Indication by
Dieting a ' erbarous and Useless One.
We say the old way, but really it is
a verv common one at present time
and many dyspeptics and physicians
as well consider the first step to take
in attempting to cure indigestion is to
diet, either by selecting certain foods
and rejecting others or to greatly di
minish the quantity usually taken, in
other words the starvation plan is by
many supposed to be the first essen
tial.
The almost certain failure of the
starvation cure for dyspepsia has been
proven time and again, but still the
moment dyspepsia makes its appear
ance a course of dieting is at once ad
vised.
All this is radically wrong. It is
foolish and unscientific to recommend
dieting or starvation to a man suffer
ing from dyspepsia, because indiges
tion itself starves every organ and
every nerve and every fibre in the
body.
What the Dyspeptic wants is abun
dant nutrition, which means plenty of
good, wholesome, well-cooked food
and something to assist the weak
stomach to digest it. This is exactly
the purpase for which Stuart’s Dyspe
psia Tablets are adapted and this is
the method by which they cure the
worst cases of Dyspepsia, iu other
words the patient eats plenty of
wholesome food and Stuart’s Dyspe
psia Tablets digest it for him. In
this way the system is nourished and
the overworked stomach rested, be
cause the tablets will digest the food
whether the stomach works or not.
One of these tablets will digest 8,000
grains of meat or eggs.
Your druggist will tell you that
Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets is the
purest and safest remedy sold for
etomach troubles and every trial
makes one more friend for this excel
lent preparation. Sold at SOcts. for
full sized package at all drug stores.
