They W< re Happily and Permaneut'y
Uni ed Ye-terday Here
In Kom».
A vague rumor has been afloat here in
Rome for two or three days th it a couple,
well known, had been married for some
time but the rumor could oe traced to no
authenticity.
Last night Mr. John Coker met his
wife, to whom he has heen married sinpe
early in September, as she alighted fr< m
the train that brought her from Soi th
Carolina where she had coinpled her term
as teacher in Gaffney.
Rev. Dr. Belk performed the cere
mony that made them man and wife
and kept the secret for them There*
was no objection to the marriage aud
was only kept secret in order th t the
bride might fill her contract.
The bride was Miss Annie Hackney,
the charming and greatly admired
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Hack
ney. The groom is too well known
and liked here in Rome for an encom
ium in these colums. They have taken
a suit at the Armstrong for a siioit
time until they can arrange to go to
housekeeping. They were heartily
congratulated last night by a great
many friends who had the chance to
meet them.
