Bomba In Russia.
There was great excitement one day
at a small Russian port on the Baltic.
The captain of a newly arrived foreign
vessel was arrested for the alleged
crime of having attempted to bring a
large number of dynamite bombs into
the country of the czar. They brought
the unhappy man before the judge, who
happened to be one of the few intelli
gent men in the town.
“Where are the bombs?” said the
judge.
"On board the ship, ” said the police.
“There is a small cargo of them.”
“Go and fetch one,” said the judge.
“It is dangerous to touch it," said
the police.
“I cannot convict, ” said the judge,
“unless I have the material evidence.
Bring me a bomb.”
With much trepidation and many
precautions they at last brought one on
a cushion of cotton wool. The judge
laughed a most unjudicial laugh.
“That,” he said, “is a cocoanut."
And so it was.—London Tit-Bits.

Land Os the Sky.’’
In Western North Carolina, between
the Blue Ridge on the East and the
Alleghanies on the West, in the beau
tiful valley of the French Broad, two
thousand feet above the Sea, lies
Asheville, beautiful, picturesqoes and
world-famed as one of the most pleas
ant resorts in America,
It is a land of bright skies and in
comparable climate, whose praises
have been sung by poets, and whose
beauties of stream, valley and moun

This is truly the “land of the sky,”
and there is, perhaps, no more beauti

pleasure tourists of health seekers.

Bronchitis In Shoats.
Question. —I have several shoats. In
good order, which seem to have some
trouble in their throats. They have
good appetites, but do not seem to di
gest their food and they cough and
sneeze, particularly when eating. What
must I do for them ?
Answer.—Your shoats are suffering
with bronchitis, an irritation or inflam
mation of the air passages of the lungs.
This is caused by colds, just as in the
human being, and is not difficult to
cure if treated promptly. Give each
one a teaspoonful of spirits of turpen
tine in their food daily for three days
and rub their throats with any irritat
ing liniment If this does not effect a
cure, mix equal parts of salt, sulphur
and powder of juniper berries, and
place in a trough or box where they can
have free access to it At the same
time don’t let them sleep in a dusty
bed.—State Agricultural Department
Colorado Potato Beetle.
Question.—Where can I get a full
description of the appearance, habits,
etc., of the Colorado potato beetle?
There is an insect on my farm which
very closely resembles it, but it did not
seem to care for the potato vines. Those
I saw were on nettles. Are there two
kinds of this bug?
Answer.—There are two beetles very
closely resembling each other. Only an
experienced eye can detect the differ
ence. The bogus beetles never attack
potatoes, but are quite common on the
horse nettle, while the real beetle at
tacks both, and also other plants,
among them the tomato. If you will
write to the Mississippi Experiment
Station you can obtain their bulletin.
No. 41, which will give you all the par
ticulars you ask for. Address Howard
