‘‘That installment of your new story
was very interesting, ” said the editor
of the story page, “but there was one
thing about yocr manuscript that I
failed to understand. I thought for a
minute that you were forgetting how to
«pell. ”
“If these is anything I pride myself
on. it is being a good speller. I have of
ten wished that I had put in the time I
spent in acquiring the art of spelling
words of six syllables in learning to cal
culate compound interest.”
“I know that. Your reliability in
that respect made the sentence that I
refer to all the more mysterious. ”
“Maybe it was a slip of the type
writer.”
“Possibly. It would have looked ab
surd if I had not happened to catch it.
At the bottom of the last page, instead
of writing, ‘To be continued in our
next, ’ as is customary, you put, ‘To be
continued in our necks.’ ”
“And you changed it?”
"Os course. ” *
“I’m sorry you did. I wanted this
story to be something particularly real
istic. I wrote it ‘in our necks’ because
that’s where we writers of this style of
fiction invariably get it from both the
publishers and the critics.”—Detroit

Mob Thought to lie After Mo Cal lough.
Atlanta, Aug 10.—John McCul
lough, the Clayton county alleged wife
murderer, has been brought to Fulton
county for safe keeping. It was feared
that a mob was forming to lynch him
and the negro Henry Sims, who as
saulted Mrs. Turner. Sheriff Huie
brought the prisoners in a hack to At
lanta. The prisoners were frightened
and seemed to be much relieved to be
behind tne bars of the jail.
It heals everything except a broken
heart, may be said of DeWitt's Witch
Hazel Balve. Piles and rectal diseases,
cuts, burns, bruises, tetter, eczema and

An Open Letter to Dr. Hoggard
Dr. Haggard, 810 Norcross, Building
Atlanta, Ga.
If hnmanity at large does not owe to
you a debt of gratitude for the dis
covering of your Specific Tablets, I as
an individual certainly do.
For three years the best Medical
Skill has been resorted to for my wife,
from different parts of the United
States and all the remedies seemed to
do no good.
You sent her two boxes of yoar
•‘Specific Tablets ” She has not quite
used up the two boxes and they are pro
ducing a miraculous effect. She says: Be
sure to preserve his name and address.
The haggard appearance is being rap
idly removed by Haggard’s Specific
Tablets weariness and debility are giv
ing way to strength and vibacity and
why should I not rejoice and thank God,
that He has raised up a man with a
Specific to bless suffering humanity.
For nervous and sick headache, in
digestion, general debility, loss of fiesn
and breaking down of the system, your
Tablets will come as an Angel of Mercy.
When in your city, you told me the
formula of your tablets. I said to my
self: There is no humbug in that and
anyone will be safe in trying the
remedy for the ailments it proposes to
enre. Knowing your unimpeachable
character aad what the tablets have
done for my wife, I feel that I owe it to
my legion of friends throughout the
United States to point them to this
remedy for the diseases it proposes to
cure.

Manitou, CaL, Aug. 16.—William B.
Felts has mysteriously disappeared.
His flying machine with which he was
to have attempted the flight from Pike’s
Peak to Colorado Springs, is still housed
on the top of the peak. The rumors
that Felts’ nerve was becoming shaky
are offset by the claim that he was wait
ing foj a fair day. Felts went down
the mountain side Friday afternoon,
stating that he was going for a walk,
since which time nothing has been seen
or heard of him. His friends say that
he has in all probability lout his way
iu the wilderness west of the peak
and may have fallen down a precipice
and been killed or injured. They have
been searching for him since Friday.
The majority, however are skeptical
enough to believe that the professor
had not sufficient faith in his own in
vention. While they acknowledge the
conditions have been unfavorable, they
think the incident which has created so
much excitement for the past few weeks
a closed.
