Prem Women of Louisiana.
The press women of Louisiana are
generously recognized by their brothers
of the fourth estate. At the annual
meeting of the New Orleans Press club,
recently held, it was voted to admit
women to membership. Speaking of
this, The Daily Picayune says:
“The women engaged on the news
papers in New Orleans are perhaps not
the least among the great body of work
ers, and it was a gracious recognition
of their worth to accotd them member
ship in the great newspaper league. It
is said that thq New Orleans Press club
is the first in the country to admit
women to membership. The act was
characteristic of the well known chival
ry of our southern craft. The newspaper
women of New Orleans certainly appre
ciate the compliment extended, and in
the press club, as on the press, will give
of their best for its success and develop
ment. ”

SOME DAY.
Come, sit with me, love, In the gleaming
Os the flrelight’H flicker mid iiarel
Together we’ll drift in our dreaming
Away from the trouble and care,
And the present with all its sorrow
Forgotten tonight shall lie
As we talk of the glad tomorrow
And the some day by and by,
Os the day of our hopes, belated,
When I win from the world a name,
And my thought ship's docks are freighted
With honor and gold and fame.
And all that is brightest and clearest
In the wealth of the world’s supply
I’ll bring to your feet, my dearest,
In the some day by and by.
By blossom and bloom surrounded
Our own little nest shall stand,
The castle in clouds wo founded,
The home that our hearts have planned,
Where never a shade of sadness
Shall darken our sunset sky,
And life shall be joy and gladness
In the some day by and by. .
But if of our dear dream stories
No tale of them all come true,
And the sky of oar grandest glories
The tempest shall hide from view,
Then, facing it, dear, together,
With never a tear or sigh, '
We’ll wait for the dealing weather
And the some day by and by.

The Way
To Weigh
More
Good weight means good health.
Good health, means good blood.
Good blood is at the bottom of it
all. If a man or woman is losing
flesh, chances are ten to one that
the blood is impure and lifeless.
Pure blood builds up good, firm
flesh. It makes muscles that you
can use. There is no fictitious fat
about it It gives you a balance in
the bank of health that you can
draw on without fear.
Sarsaparilla is Nature’s remedy
for impure or impoverished blood.
It is just the sort of remedy that
grandmother used to dig up in the
garden. It is simple, pure, efficient.
It puts the digestion into perfect
order, stimulates the appetite, as
sists nutrition, cleanses and purifies
the whole body.
The surest and purest and safest
and best of all sarsaparillas, is

| An ElephanO That Woald Not Neglect a.
Babp It Was Caring; Eor.
Marie A.Millie, in St. Nicholas, tells,
a number- of “Stories of Elephants.”
Mrs. Millie says:
Some time before the elephant hunt I
| have described, my husband was at a.
1 station in Bengal. His work kept him
out nearly all drey, and, being ill, I
used to. lie for hours in a long garden
chair on the veranda, too weak to read
or enjoy any more exciting amusement
than my eyes supplied to me.
We-had three elephants for our tents,
and baggage, and one dear creature
used: to ..feed from my hands every day
and seemed as gentle as any pet. dog or
cat.
One of our government chaprasis was
particularly devoted to her and invari
ably shared his meal of fruit or flour
cakes with his dumb friend. On a par
ticularly hot day the chapraei, to my
surprise, placed his tiny child of 6
months at the elephant’s feet, warning
her expressively that the infant was in
her charge and was to be cared for till
his return. I myself was an eyewitness
of her wonderful sagacity. Large ba
nana trees and fig trees grew aronnd,
and, to my surprise, the elephant broke
off one of the former’s spreading leaves,
held it like a fan in her trunk and from
time to time gracefully waved it over
the slumbering child, whether to tem
per the heat of the atmosphere or to
! keep off flies, lam unable to say. The
gentle way in which she moved her feet
over the child and across to each side
astounded me. I sent for a white loaf
and some oranges, and, calling her by
■name (she was never chained), tried in
vain to tempt her to my side on the low
veranda. Nothing would induce her to
leave her charge. The warm air and
monotonous wave of the swinging fan
overpowered me with drowsiness, to
which I yielded, and, after a sleep of
some duration, I was awakened by
quiet, subdued snorts beside me. To
my surprise I found that the chaprasi
had just returned to his offspring, and
the elephant stood near the veranda be
side me, patiently waiting and gently
asking for the tempting dainties so
bravely withstood for over two hours.
