FLUSH THE SEWERS,
Necessity of Keeping Them Clean Now I.
Imperative.
The sewers should be flushed every
day or so now, as the dry weather is con
ducive to sickness.
Great care should be taken to keep
the sewers open and clean. The ho
days and cool nights cause the impuri
ties to fill the air.
There were very disagreeable odors
on Broad street last night, but whether
they came from the sewers or river can
not be stated with any certainty,
But flush the sewers.

Thieve. “Fixeu” the poor Saturday, and Es.
fected au Entrance Early Morning
Sunday—Thief Km w Surroundings,
Well! well! well!
Here’s a pretty kettle of fish!
And it came to pass ’ that a case of
‘ Yellow Label” was mistaken for yellow
fever.
Sunday afternoon a rantankerous ru
mor went gallahooting up one street and
down another, over hill and down the
vale, from cottuge to mansion in this
classic city ol Seven hills. It spread and
it spread, and all the town was soon
agog.
And all, too, just because a certain
gentleman came to the city, and under
the unbenign effects of numerous
“straights,” accumulated a jag that was
a “peach.”
The jsg was a bit over done, and a
faint far-away feeling in the region of
the waistband created an internal dis
trubance that knocked the aforesaid “cer
tain gent” as limber as a rag.
Then, too, there was a dark brown
taste m the mouth, superinduced by dis -
daining natures own cooling beverage,
and taking copious draughts of man’s
fiery and seductive concoctions.
When the truth of the matter became
known yesterday that the people bad
been treated to a foolish and gratuitous
scare, indignation seized upon the citi
zenry at first. But when the first heat
of anger had been smoothed from stormy
brows, the real humor of the situation
Struck all alike, and the whole seven hills
resounded with cachinations.
And thats how “Yellow Label”
knocked a big city silly for a short
while.
