citizens of Spencer, Mo., testifies that
he cured himself of the worst kind of
piles by using a few boxes of DeWitt’s
Witch Hazel Salve. He had been troubled
with piles for over thirty years and had
used many different kinds of so called
curss; but DeWitt’s was the one that did
the work and he will verify this state

New Contagious Disease.
A circular has been issued by Com
missioner General Powderly and ap
proved by Secretary Gage, directing all
immigration and customs officers to
make careful examination for the dis
covery of cases of favus, a loathsome
contagious disease of the scalp, among
immigrants arriving here and instruct
ing them to return all such afflicted per
sons at the earliest opportunity at the
expense of the steamship lines bringing
them to America. Commissioner Pow
derly says that the disease is a new one
and made its appearance here among
immigrants. It has proved to be stub
born in resisting treatment, and, being
communicated, it has been decided best
to exclude all afflicted persons from our
ports. —Exchange.
YellovT* Fever'Theories.
Armed with credentials from city au
thorities and medical boards, Dr. J. J
Knott of Atlanta has gone to Montgom
ery, Ga., to make a test of his theory
for the cure of yellow fever. Dr. Knott,
who has been through two epidemics,
holds that yellow fever is caused by the
introduction of phosphorus into the sys
tem, which takes place when there is
deficiency of ozone and humidity, and
that the disease is contracted during the
night. He therefore says that the anti
dotes to phosphorus poisoning are most
efficacious in yellow fever.—New York

SNOW FILLS THE STREETS.
UiiMMonable Bliszxrd Cannes
DauiNga and
Denver, Oct. 27.—The blizzard which
began Monday night lasted until
Wednesday morning. Not only did the
i storm cause universal discomfort, but it
' inflicted heavy pecuniary loss as well. In
one item of broken telegraph, telephone
and electric light wires and poles, the
damage foots up to $40,000. To this
must be added the heavy expense en
tailed upon the street railways in at
tempts to keep their lines open and the
loss to merchants in the way of busi
ness.
Many a family dined on tea and
crackers, or went to bed without any
dinner at alt Groceryineu could not
deliver goods. The streets, piled high
with snow, present a curious spectacle.
There is hardly a street in the city over
which there is not at some point a
tangle of telephone and eieccric light
wires. On all sides broken poles hang
in midair, or peer from big snowdrifts.
It is estimated that throughout the
state no less than 3,000 miles of wire
is strewn on the ground.
The Gulf is the only road that suc
ceeded in getting a train over the divis
ion to Colorado Springs and Pueblo and
its officers are proud of the achieve
ment. Trains from the south are com
ing in from 12 to 15 hours late.

SHOT DOWN BY HIS SON.
Prominent Californian Brutally Murdered
on Slight Provocation.
Redwood City, Cal., Oct. 27.—Pat
rick Flannelly, one of the most re
spected citizens of this place, was shot
and killed by his son, Thomas Flan
nelly, because he had been ordered from
a ranch for disregarding the old man’s
wishes. The crime was committed in
the elder Flanneiiy’s home, which the
son had evidently entered with the in
tent of doing murder. The crime
aroused the people of Redwood City to
a high state of excitement. Posses were
formed to pursue the patricide, and he
was finally located at the ranch he had
been ordered by his father to leave.
When called upon to surrender, young
Flannelly opened fire upon Sheriff Mc-
Avoy and several of his deputies, one
bullet taking effect on the sueriff’s left
arm. The volley was returned and the
murderer was wounded several times
and then he surrendered and is now un
der a surgeon’s care.
So irreat is the indignation in this
city over the killing of the elder Flan
nelly that open threats are made against
the life of his slayer, should the latter
recover from his wounds.

change which I will make will be in the

Body >nistchers at Work.
Chicago, Oct. 27. Following the
theft of the four bodies from the Dun
ning morgue discoveries have been made
that would indicate that the ghouls did
not stop at the dead house in their mid
night work. At the end of trench 2,
in what is called the new potter’s field,
at Dunning, are indications that three
bodies once buried there have been re
moved. The rough slabs marked with
the numbers of the unfortunates whu
once laid beneath them were displaced
and the graves almost entirely un
covered. An investigation into the af
fair will be made.
There is no need of little children
being tortued by scald head, eczema
and skin eruptions. DeWitt’s Witch
Hazel Salve gives instant relief and
cures permanently. For sale by Cur
