• FOOTBALL SENSATION Boidre Phinizy’s Denunclat on of the Farmers as “Jackasses.” WILL HAYE EFFECT TO PASS BILL Legislature .Has Been Stirred Up by the tZ the Matter—Resolutions and Other GosslpTba the Subject. » Since Bowdre Phinizy, of Augusta, has spiken of the members of the legislature as being composed of too many farmers and “jickasses” it is likely that nothing can stop the passage of the bill to pro hibit football in the state. Three bills to stop such games have been presented to the bouse. fc- The Phinizy matter has caused such a sensation that The Tribune republishes the original - dispatclFas ;it appeared in the Columbus Euquirer-Sun as follows: Atlanta, Ga , Nov. I,—(Special ) - Mr. Bowdre Phinizy, one of the Rich - mond county representatives, thinks the Georgia legislature is composed of too many farmers and jackasses. Just what weight this belief of Mr. Bowdre Phinizy will have over the state is only to be conjectured at. Mr. Phinizy’s belief as above was prompted by the sweeping sentiment against football playing by legislators who don’t know how to plow. “I think it is a pretty state of af fairs when farmers, who don’t know a d—n thing about the game of foot ball, come here and blow about its brutality, etc. You can quote me that way. There’s too many jackasses here anyway.” Mr. Phinizy is from Augusta, wears iflne clothes and is a thorough going ■university man. There’s not a better 'dressed man in the legislature, nor a ■man who is prouder of his college .rec ord than Mr. Phimzy, fie is a young Inan, and his contact with the coun try members had ruffled his feathers when the game went to the above tirade today. How the interests of agriculture and labor would be subserved if left in the hands of a legislature composed entirely o' Mr. Phinizy, with the ‘‘jackasses and farmers” left out, is a problem which the latter class of representatives would like to see solved. Because they happen to be against football, winch game caused one of the saddest deaths that ever oc curred in Georgia, right here in Atlanta, no longer than Saturday afternoon, Mr, Phinizy weeps for the' welfare of the state. “A second Kansis” he calls Geor gia. Perhaps the Peffenan whiskers of some country member have outraged tbe athletic tastes of Mr. Phinizy, who is clean shaven. • Mr. Phinizy said he would like to see a picture of ten of the farmers who are blowing so hard about the brutalities of football compared with ten of the digni fied members who recognize football as a legitimate sport. “ There would be a contrast,” Mr. Phinizy says, and the farmers think so, too. W. P. A. How It Ended The initials signed to this are those of Walter Adamson, brother of the city editor of the Atlanta Constitution. Mr. .Phinizy had a stateannt read denouncing the statement as ‘ ‘a lie. ’’ Mr. Adamson got a member to intro duce a resolution to investigate, and named a number of prominent men as his witnesses. Phinizy Will Renig. Later in the day Mr. Phinizy an nounced to several members that he Would sign a statement admitting that he said what the Enquirer-Sun’s corres pondent credited him with saying, but that he did not mean it for publication, and that he said it hastily. Sermon on Von Gammon. The Macon News says: “Rev. J. L. White will preach a sermon on ‘‘Athletics” Sunday night at the First Baptist church. “The death of Von Gammon as a result of injuries in a football game will be take up.” A VIRGINIA ACCOUNT Os How the Accident to Vonalbade Gam • mon Hhppened. A BARBAROUS SUR' IvlL OPERATION For the Cure of Piles Is not only intensely painful, dan gerous to life and very expensive, but in the light of modern medical research and since tbe discovery of the Pyramid Pile Cure a surgical operation is wholly unnecessary. It you have any doubt on this point kindly read the following letters from people who know that our clams regarding the merits of the Pyra mid Pile Cure are borne out by the facts N. A. Among the accomplishments of Dr. Edward Bedloe of Philadelphia, the American consul at Canton, China, is remarkable skill in mimicry. He can imitate with his voice the accent and mannerisms of speech of all the leading actors and orators as well as a number of musical instruments. His imitations of the twanging of a banjo are exceed ingly accurate. Some years ago Dr. Bedloe was in a rooin at the Press club when several guests were being enter tained in an adjoining apartment. He had been with the party, but had ex cused himself on the plea that he want ed to get his banjo. He proceeded to “play” a medley and did the imitation so well that the guests would not be lieve he had not actually performed on an instrument until he repeated the imitation in their presence. He is, moreover, a witty and brilliant conver sationalist and a most entertaining ra conteur. He has a woilderf al memory and has never been known to tell the same story twice.—Philadelphia Press.
