HORSE SHOW IN NEW YORK.
Only a Few People Attend the Formal
Opening—Program For the Day.
New York, Nov. 15—There were but
few people present iu Madisou Square
Garden at the hour set for the formal
opening of the thirteenth annual exhi
bition of the National Horse Show of
America. The weather was damp and
foggy a 'l the forenoon, and, moreover,
the program for the first half day was
not such as to attract a general attend
ance.
At 10 o’clock the actual work of ex
hibiting began with the exercising of
horses in the ring under the supervig
ion of the riding master. This went on
for half an hour, when the ring was
cleared for preliminary trials over the
jumps of horses entered in classes 99
and 102, the animals acquitting them
selves creditably to be allowed to com
pete in the final trials set down for a
later period iu the exhibition. This oc
cupied the time until recess.
At the afternoon session there was a
little better attendance, but still the
number of visitors present was small.
There are those who regard this as
the crucial year of the show. It is
claimed that society, which for so
many years has made the show a part
of vanity fair, has tired of it. It is a
fact that the sale of boxes fell off a
good deal and the people who last year
could not have obtained a box at any
price, are this year boxholders. The
same is true also of the reserved seats
in the first tier. There the receipts fell
off some S2B <IOO from last year. It is
said that those members of society who
will grace the show with their presence
in the main will keep away from the
boxes.
J. C. Berry, one of the best known
citizens of Spencer, Mo., testifies that
he cured himself of the worst kind of
piles by using a few boxes of DeWitt’s
Witch Hazel Salve. He had been troubled
with piles for over thirty years and had
used many different kinds of so-called
cures; but DeWitt’s was the one that did
the work and he will verify this state
ment if any one wishes to write him. Cuf
