Atlanta, Dec. 2 —The election hers was very tame, the contest having prac tically been settled at a primary in Oc tober. Only 726 votes were cast in the whole city. The remarkably small vote is a record breaker and it is a very small proportion of the registered voters. Five thousand three hundred and eighty voters registered for the election. Two aldermen, J. D. Turner and J. L. May son, and seven couucllmen, M. T. La- Hatte, G. B. Adair, E. P. Burna, W. S. Thomson, D. N. McCullough, T. A. Hammond and J. S. Dozier, were elected. Sylvania, Ga., Dec. 2. —The prison ers broke jail here and four of them have made good their escape. No one sleeps in the jail, and the negroes prized their way out of the door with a stick of wood. Willie Lovett, a chaingang youth, did not wish to leave, and went over and informed Sheriff Beartrick of their escape. The sheriff’s bloodhounds were put on their trail, but the prison i ers, it is thought, had several hours the 1 start of the dogs, and the chase was fruitless. Two of the negroes who es caped were under sentence to the peni tentiary, and two to the chaipguus’. Prosperity comes quickest to the man whose liver is in good condition. Ga., Deo. 2.—The election for mayor and aldermen was held in the city hall. T. J. Hardin was elected with A. W. Bramblett, O. J. Zellner ami G. B. Thweatt councilman. There was but one ticket in the field. J. C. Berry, one of the best known citizens of Spencer, Mo., testifies that he cured himself of the worst kind of piles by using a few boxes of DeWitt’s Witch Hazel Salve. He had been troubled with piles for over thirty years and had used many different kinds of so-called curss; but DeWitt’s was the one that did the work and he will verify this state ment if any one wishes to write him. Frankfort, Ky., Dec. ?. —There is a merry war iu society circles throughout the state over the appointment by Gov ernor Bradley of his >*iughter Ohristint to christen the new battleship Ken tucky, which will soon be launched at Newport News. The friends of Mies Harriet Richard son of Lexington claim that she was ■elected for the honor by former Secre tary Herbert, and that Secretary Long had promised to carry out the plans ot his predecessor. Believing that she was to christen the battleship Miss Richardson sent a re quest to every distiller in the state for * small contribution of the best and oldest whisky to be used on the occa sion. She received contributions from every quarter and obtained a large and hand some vial, which she filled by using a small amount from each bottle contrib uted. The trial by courtmartial of Captain O. M. Carter, under the charges now being prepared by the war department, will be held iu , Savannah. The law on the subject re quires that such trials be held where the witnesses can be secured with the least expense, and nearly all the wit nesses live here, or near here. It is re quired that the accused be furnished a copy of the charges within eight dayt after the courtmartial is ordered. Captain Carter’s friends were some what surprised over the announcement that there would be a courtmartial, but they believe firmly that such a court will deal only with the minor charged . and that the question ot collusion with ; the contractors will not be touched, > since there is practically no evidence W 1 support tne charge. Whenever one becomes sensible of the boating ot their own heart, they are liable to be frightened and imagine they have some form of heart disease.
