Hallett’s Bond Bedueed.
J. W. Hallett who has been in jail for
sometime under charges of arson, has had
his bond reduced from $3,000 to $2,000,
and his friends are making an effort to
secure the bond.
Boyal Arch Masons.
Rome Chapter, No. 26 Royal Arch
Masous, will meet Monday evening at
7:30 o’clock for the purpose of electing
officers for the ensuing year.

steadily vesterday and up to about 10
o’clock last night.
CivilJService Examination.
There was a civil service examina
tion at the postofflce yesterday for
postoffice clerks and carriers. Seven
men stood the examination, six being
white and one colored.
Daughters of the Confederacy.
The Daughters of the Confederacy
will meet in the library rooms next Tues
day afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. A full
attendance is desired. Mrs. Hallie Rounsa
ville will be present and give a most in
teresting account of the Baltimore con
vention of the U. D. C.
"Devotion to Principle”
Will be the topic at the Young Men
Prayer Circle this afternoon at First
Baptist church at 8 o’clock. Mr. A.
H. Cundell will lead. The referent#
is Daniel 3rd chapter 1 to 11 verse. Men
of every denomination are invited.
Strangers are extended a cordial wel
come.
One of the Important -social events
of this week, will be the reception by
the Bachelors club at the residence of
Miss Bonnie King, on fashionable
Second avenue. In style it is to be a
progressive love party, and as this is
something new, a gorgeous time is
anticipated. The list is out, and
couples are being rapidly checked.
Football BIU Not Signed.
Governor Atkinson has not yet
signed the bill against football, and it
is said that there is a possibility of
his not doing so. It is said, too, that
there has been a strong revulsion of
feeling among the legislators since the
bill has passed, and that many of
them have gone to the governor and
asked him not to sign it.

Breaching In North Borne.
Rev. T. P. Graham will preach in the
North Rome Methodist church this morn
ing and this evening. It will be his last
sermon before leaving Rome to assume
his new charge. He has been transfer
red from the Fairmount circuit to the
Greene circuit in the Athens district.
Mr. Graham has made many friends dur
ing his residence heie, and they will see
him and his interesting family leave with
a great deal of regret.
Will Move to Bome.
Pastor A. B. Vaughan at the dose
of his sermon here Saturday night
made it known to his church his in
tention of leaving this (charge shortly
and accepting a call from the Second
Baptist church at Rome. He gave
bis reasons the advantage of putting
his girls in Shorter college, located at
Rome, as all ministers’ children get
tuition there free. He said if he left
he wanted to see Canton andlEllijay
go together and call the same preacher
and to call a strong man. Mr.
Vaughan’s church will give him up
very reluctantly.—Ellijay Courier.
Offers House Wednesday Night.
The popular favorite, Polk Miller,
will appear at Nevin’s Opera house Wed
nesday night next, in conjunction with
Oscar Mason and Ester Wallace. This
combination is hard to beat and there is
little doubt that there will be a large
audience to greet them. The program
is a lengthy and varied one and is adver
tised on the bills to be constructed
specially for “laughing purposes.” The
third act will introduce Mr. Miller in a
new role, that of an old plantation negro,
not only in dialect, but in “make-up” as
well.
Bright little Boy Dead.
Benjamin Franklin, the bright lit
tle six year old eon of Mr. and Mrs.
W. J. May passed away yesterday
evening at 7 o’clock. The little fel~
low had been ill only one week. His
father lived on Broad street next to
the Are house, and Benjamin was the
pet of the fire boys, and they felt sad
last night. The funeral will take
place from the bouse this afternoon
at 3:go o’clock. The pallbears will be
Sam Hardin. Harry Herrington, Lee
Murphy and Edward West.
