NINETIETH BIRTHDAY
Mrs, Jeiifer Noble Celebrated Occasion
in nnistOQ Yesterday,
SHE IS STILL STRONG AND HhLPFUL
The Passage of Years Han Left Her Face
A» Smooth and Velvety as a Girls.
A Very Kemarkab'e Family.
Yesterday In the city of Anniston a
most interesting event took place.
Mrs. Jenifer Noble celebrated her
90th birthday, and besides some of
her children and relatives a number
of friends were present to do honor to
the occasion.
» She is a very remarkable woman,
and though the joys and the sorrows
of 90 years have crownei her head
with snow, her face is unmarred by
any of the usual signs of extreme age,
but is as smooth and white as a-j- irl’s.
She still attends church regulaily
each Sabbath, and seems not in the
least fatigued afterwards. She takes
a deep interest in politics and all cur
rent events, and is fully abreast of
the times. In Anniston she is affec
tionately known to everyone as
“Grandmother’’ Noble.
Mrs. Noble’s maiden name was Miss
Jenifer Ward, and she was born in
Cornwall, England, Dec. 7th 1807.
In 1826 she was married to James
Noble, and they moved to America in
1837.
In 1855 they moved to Rome and
lived here until several years ago
when they went to Anniston. Mr.
Noble died in 1888, and a few months
later a son, Samuel passed away.
Fourteen children were born to
them, 12 of whom lived to manhood,
and womanhood. There were six sons
and six daughters. Mrs. Henry A.
Smith, of this city is one of the
daughters.
There are 45 grandchildren living
and 65 great-grandchildren.
Something over a year ago Mrs.
Noble visited Mrs. Smith and during
her stay held almost a continuous re
ception. She was so gentle, and so
genuinely glad to have her friends,
old and young come to see her, that
none failed to go away in love with
this patrician lady.
How to Prevent Pnenmonia.
At this time of the year a cold is very
easily contracted, and if left to run its
course without the aid of some reliable
cough medicine is liable to result in that
dread disease, pneumonia. We know of
no better remedy to cure a cough or cold
than Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
We have used it quite extensively and
it has always given entire satisfaction.
—Olagah, Ind. Ter. Chief.
This is the only remedy that is known
to be a certain preventive of pneumonia.
Among the many thousands who have
used it for colds and la grippe, we have
never yet learned of a single case having
resulted in pneumonia. Persons who
have weak lungs or have reason to fear
an attack of pnenmonia, should keep
the remedy at hand. The 25 and 50

But if you have weak kidneys* blad
der trouble or distressing kidney com
plaint, then Swamp Root will prove to
be just the remedy you need. Too fre
quent desire to urinate, scanty supply,
pain or dull ache in the back is con

bladder need doctoring.
There is comfort in the knowledge so
often expressed, that Dr. Kilmer’s
Swamp Root, the great kidney remedy
fulfills every wish in relieving pain in
the back, kidneys, liver, bladder and

and overcomes that unpleasant neces
tty of being compelled to get up many
times during the night to urinate.
The mild and extraordinary effect of
Swamp Root is soon realized. It stands
the highest for its wonderful cures of
the most distressing cases. If you

GEN. LEE’S BIRTHDAY
Rome Daughters of Confederacy and
Yet> rats Will Celebrate It.
MRS. ROUNSAVILLE’S FINE REPORT
About Baltimore Convention—Mrs. D. B.
Hamiltor, »r .'Presides—The Dalton
Chapter’s Good Work.
The Daughters of the Confederacy had
an enthusiastic meeting yesterday after
noon.
Mrs. Gammon not being present, Mrs.
D B. Hamilton, sr., first vice-president,
presided. The most important matter of
attention was the appointment of a com
mittee of three members to meet and
consult with Confederate Veterans on
the selection and invitation of an orator
for the celebration of Lee's birthday Jan.
19th. Mesdames Haisted Smith, Corn
elius Terhune and Ethel Harris formed
the committee, and held a short confer
ence with Col. Montgomery who by re
quest was present, but no definite plans
were formed.
Mrs. Rounsaville made a most interest
ing report of the meeting of U. D. C.
in Baltimore, to which she was a delegate
from the Rome chapter. She is enthus
iastic in her devotion to the Confederate
Veterans. She will make an able presi
dent of the Georgia division, and the
Rome chapter is proud of the distinc
tion, and will rally to her assistance.
She has exerted her influence in the
formation of two new chapters in Georgia
—one in Dalton, our sister city. Miss
Scylla Thomas, of that place, has secur
ed the names of twenty-five ladies 'to
join as charter members of the Dalton
chapter. The members of it are very in.
terested in the organization.
Miss Thomas and the other members
have planned to give an entertainment
in Dalton shortly after Christmas with
the assistance of some of the best musical
talent of Atlanta and other places.
“Living Pictures” from Truth will be
the main feature of the entertainment
After this every month an entertainment
will be given.
The proceeds will be used to purchase
head stones for the 400 or 500 confede
rate soldiers who are buried gear Dalton.
The purpose is a most laudable one.
As soon as the Rome chapter selects
the orator for Lee’s birthday and he ac
cepts The Tribune will announce the
fact.
