WINDLASS BROKE HIS LEG.
The Flight of an Injured Game Warden
In Canadian Wilds.
Nelson Spinney, caretaker and game
warden at Inglewood manor, the club
house of the fishing club at Musquash,
near St. John, N. 8., had a thrilling
experience on Thanksgiving day.
Early in the afternoon, while lower
ing tlie gate of the dam on Eagle lake,
Spinnoy lost. control of the windlass,
which, flying around, struck his left
leg, badly fracturing it below the knee.
He was alone, and there was no possi
bility of any one coming to the rescue.
Determined to try to reach the club
house, three .miles away, he first slid
down the ten foot embankment of the
dam and then, with the aid of a staff,
hopped along on one leg over the rough
ground. His progress was slow. When
darkness fell, he sat down with his back
toward the clubhouse, raised himself on
his hands, pushed with his right leg
and swung himself along an inch or two
at a time.
Hour after hour he dragged himself
along through bog and marsh, and in all
probability would have lost heart but
for his faithful dog, which by licking
his master’s hand and face gave him
fresh courage. It was nearly 2 o’clock
in the morning when he reached the
clubhouse. He had been 18 hours cover
ing the three miles.
Spinney managed to light a fire, how
ever, and get something to eat. Then,
removing his clothing, torn almost into
strips and soaked with water, he got
into bed to wait for rescue or death.
Despite his intense suffering he slept a
few hours. Friday he spent the whole
day and night in the cheerless and fire
less room, a fierce storm raging without.
Late Saturday afternoon some men
camping in the woods decided to go to
the clubhouse, where they found Spin
ney. On Sunday paorning a doctor was
summoned and the leg set.—Boston

Irregular Appetite.
This condition is a symptom of some
Btitutional derangement of the system, es.
pecially of indigestion.
A sufferer from dyspepsia generally has
“the blues.” He is as miserable in mind as
in body. Bis appetite is more capricious
than the whims of a spoiled child; at times
there is a craving for food, at others a loath
ing of even the very thought of eating. This
condition renders life miserable and should
be corrected by the use of Dr. M. A. Sim
mons Liver Medicine.
Knocked' Out. Zeilin’s big fraud has
just been knocked out by the Supreme
Court. The unfortunate merchants who
were induced to buy the staff find them
selves-with goods that cannot be sold, as
the Supreme Court enjoined it The United
States Court knocked out the old proprie
