Mrs. C. B. Hudgin’s .Plan for Christmas
Stockings for Poor Children.
Mrs. C. B. Hudgins calls a meeting
the Young Men’s Library rooms tor this
afternoon at 3 o’clock.
The object of this meeting is for a
noble charity. It is Mrs. Hudgin’s
plan to give every poor child in Rome
and suburbs a pair of well filled stock
ings Christmas morning. There are
many homes to which the beautiful
Christmas tide brings no comfort or
cheer. , Pale, careworn little faces
know not merry Kris Kringle, or the
joys of this wonderful personage’s
visit.
To these desolate homes would Mrs.
Hudgins go carrying sunshine and hap
piness. The . idea of the Christmas
stocking is a novel and new one. But
it is so practical, so happy in its in
ception that the good folk of Rome
will be sure to come to the aid of Mrs.
Hudgins, and make Yuletide, 1897, a
never to be forgotten one in the poor
homes of Rome.
Committeeswill be appointed at the
meeting this afternoon for every por
tion of the city and suburbs, whose
duties will be to go into every bumble
cottage and get a list of the little ones
not over 13 years of age, and to re
ceive the from kind hearted
donors.
Let every one able to do so contri
bute a pair of well-filled stocking, to
brighten some little stunted life Ap
ples, organes, bananas, all kinds of
fruits, candies, toys, etc., should be
sent to Mrs. Hudgins. Money too,
will be received. Let every one at
tend the meeting this afternoon,
