THE LEITER WHEAT DEAL.
Ch.uOM For O dlimo Comer I'rlo.o Ari
Not Very Goo.i Now.
Chicago, Dec. 15.—The Tribune sayst
There are just 17 days left to make er
unmake the December wheat deal. The
chances for fireworks and oldtime corner
prices are scarcely so bright as they
were some time ago. Leiter is learning
Something about the possibilities of Chi
cago as a receiving market and about
the resources of Armour.
Earlier in the season Leiter gave Ar
mour, who came back from Europe a
"dollar wheat” bull, some points on
how to act promptly, but in the last two
days the local stock of wheat has been
increased by 1,350,00) bushels. Such a
movement is simply phenomenal and
presents a part of the energetic cam
paign made by Armour and Weare.
The last cargoes of abnormal Duluth-
Chicago movement, aggregating 3,645,-
-000 bushels, are arriving.
The bulk of this has been contract
wheat brought down for the special
benefit of the market made by Mr.
Leiter. It has been variously disposed
of. Part of it has gone into the public
elevators and part into private houses.
Armour knows just how much contract
wheat is here. Leiter would give asnusr
gpm for exact information as to how
much of the Chicago stock has come
here to fill short saies to him and how
" much is here to be dumped out on De
cember advances, such as those of last
Friday and last Monday.
The chance of pyrotecbnical is in the
speculative market for December wheat.
The real battle is in the cash property.
Leiter has been holding a large assort
ment of speculative cards and has been
playing hern rapidly,, He has brought
the deal up from July to September,
and ftom September to December, but
only recently has been pushing prices
to a point to bring wheat from all
directions.

Round Mull«ilain to Montgomery.
Chattanooga, Dec. 15. The Chatta
nooga Southern railroad, leading from
this city, will be extended from Round
Mountain to Montgomery, Ala., dis

the richest cotton sections of the south.
General Manager W. S. Hoskins has
left for New York, where he will hold
a conference with Collis P. Huntington,
Russell Sage, Henry L. Lamb, H. A. V.
Post and other owners of the Chatta
nooga Southern.
Mr. Hoskins took with him maps,
statistics, and a number of reports giv
ing all the information as to the advant
ages and disadvantages of the extension
of the road to Montgomery. Mr. Hosk
ins and his engineer. Hood Tucker, have
been at work for several days past mak

| will cost on an average of $14,000 per
mile. The owners of the road will be
shown all these papers, and the confer

Hoskins says that he will return to
Chattanooga within ten days.
It is understood that Mr. Hoskins
will recommend the building of the ex

fact that he lies already secured termi

tain that the line will be constructed
and that the work will commence at
au early date.

Tucson, A. T., Dec. 15.—A special
to The Star from San Simon says; A

ranch house, surprised the bandits.
Three of the robbers surrendered in a
short time and rhe other two came tu
the house, walked in the trap and were
captured.
A deputy with five men brought the
prisoners to San Simon. They were
taken to Silver City, N. M., for "exami

'Born Without Arms.
The state of Indiana is noted for
freak babies. Probably the most inter
esting of the lot is a bright little boy
whose parents live in Salamonia, Jay
county. The'child was born without the
slightest semblance of arms. He is now
4 years of age and has learned to use his
feet with remarkabft skill. There is
nothing which generally falls to the
duties of the hands which the child is
not able to do with his toes. He can
skin and eat bananas, take up pins and
is learning to write, or rather draw,
with a pencil. He is hearty and ex
ceptionally bright.

KILLED AND'THEN ROBBED.
Aged Woinitii In Murdered In Mobile by
1 lileVeN—No Clue to « Ulprlts.
Mobile, Dec. 15. —A little girl going
to the store of Mrs. Margaret Hogan,
corner of Olay atid.Oongress streets, to
make a small purchase, found the store
open and the lamps burning, but no one
attending. Going into the rear room
she discovered Mrs. Hogan lying on the
floor, dead, with her hands tied behind
her back and a piece of braid wrapped
tightly around her throat.
Giving the alarm, an investigation
followed, which showed that line place
had been robbed of money and some of
the goods. The robbers had probably
forced woman, who was 65 years of
age, to give up her small hoard, which
she kept in her room back of the store.
Then they strangled her with the braid,
but finding her slow, in dying, brained
her with some blunt instrument.
There is no clue to the identity of the
murderers. * .
FATAL BOILER EXPLOSION.
One Negro Instantly Killed and Two Oth
er* Mortally Injured.
Charleston, Dec. 15—The boiler of
a 15-horsepower engine, used at Town
send’s woodyard, on Tradd street, in
this city, exploded. Dallas Whitfield
was killed instantly and two other ne
groes named Chisholm and Hall were
fatally injured.
A part of Whitfield’s body was blown
through a third-story window 300 feet
away. Portions of the machinery were
blown 300 yards, where they crashed
through the roofs of residences. The
glass in windows fora block around was
broken. ,
It is supposed that the negroes who
were in charge of the yard allowed the
water to run too low in the boiler pod
that the explosion resulted. There was
no insurance on the property destroyed.

New York, Dec. 15. —Elizabeth L.
