1 ROBBER CHIEF‘ RETRACTS.
Th. Lender of Dnlton <'ar Ihl.vM, Bo
hannon, T.H. a New Tai..
Dalton, Ga, Dec. 21.—Walter 80-1
1 haunon. the self confessed car robber,
> who is now serving a term in the peni
: tentiavy, and npon whose statements
! others were convicted, has retracted a
parr of his confession and has substi
f tuted a new story for the one he told in
' the courthouse here.
Bohannon’s substitute story was first
; uttered on Nov. 20 last and the com
s mittee for the legislature which in
, spected the convict camp where Bo
hannon wore the stripes was his audi-
J ence. The new story varies materially
■ from the one he clung to during the
trials.
' Those who kept up with the cases for
[ receiving stolen goods will recall that
several Dalton merchants were cou-
1 victed on the testimony of Bohannon,
prominent among them being Captain
; T. J. Peeples, at that time freight agent
for the Western and Atlantic railroad
t at this point.
» There were 17 true bills against Bo
hannon, to all of which he pleaded
! guilty, implicating nearly a half score
of prominent business men in and
> around Dalton. Captain Peeples was
tried in two cases and in one was con-
‘ victed aud sentence was passed upon
! him.
( Since his confinement at Cole Oity
i Bohannon has declared himself inno
; cent in 15 of the cases, aud says he
, pleaded guilty in fulfilment of a trade
made with the state and the Southern
. railway. According to his statement,
1 the state h's received $4,000 which it
could not iiave g;>tren unless he would
acknowledge the theft and then swear
against- tiie various merchants indicted.
Bohannon further stated that as a re
i ward for his conduct he is to be re
leaped nt the expiration of one year, if
, pn-sibie. and given a position as a
, Son iie’H r; 11 way detective at a salary
: of SIOO per month.

The Turn of Life. _ _
The cessation of the menses usually flfl«
curs between the ages of forty and fifty.
Great irregularity takes place in the periodic
discharges for some time before the final
cessation, the female usually experiencing
sudden flashes of heat, fullness in the head,
headache and other evidences of oonstitu
tional disturbance. The nervous system
sympathetically responds, and there is great
irritability ana melancholy, the patient is
discouraged and has a sense of fullness or
suffocation.
At no time in her life does a woman need
