A Clever Trick.
It certainly looks like it, but there is
really no trick about it. Anybody can
try it who has Lame Back and Weak
Kidneys, Malaria or nervous troubles.
We mean he can cure himself right
away by taking Electric Bitters. This
medicine tones up the whole system,
acts as a stimulent to the Liver and
Kidneys, is a blood purifier and nerve
tonic. It cures Constipation, Headache,
Fainting Spells, Sleeplessness and Mel

laxative, and restores the system to its
natural vigor. Try Electric Bitters and
be convinced that they are a miracle

LAWYER IS IN TROUBLE.
William Kent of Brooklyn A conned oi
Swindling His Clients.
New Yobk, Dec. 23.—William Kent, a
well known lawyer of Brooklyn, a prom
inent member of Plymouth church, in
the Suudayschool of which he is a
teacher, and the organizer of the Penny
Savings bank counected with the Bethel
Mission Suudayschool, a branch ol
Plymouth, is in jail in Brooklyn, hav
ing been arrested on a warrant charg
ing him with forgery. Kent is accused
by Mrs. Mary H. McCord of Brooklyn
of falsely certifying and acknowledg
ing a satisfaction of mortgaga
Mrs. McCord, who is a wealthy woman,
declared that her name, which ap
peared on the satisfaction, was not out
there by her, nor with her consent. She
further charges Kent with falsely cer
tifying and acknowledging the satisfac
tion.of the mortgage, knowing that her
signature was not genuine.
It is alleged by Mrs. McCord that
Kent has betrayed the trust reposed in
him by herself, and that he has not only
appropriated the fl, 100 charged in the
Warrant, but that be has allowed taxes
on property to accumulate and has useci
money belonging to Mrs. McCord’s
niece and her servant, an elderly, fru
gal woman, who had been advised that
Kent could be trusted.
Assistant District Attorney Caldwell
stated that Kent had taken no less than
110,000 from his clients.

INDIGNATION YET INTENSE.
Believed That Rais Forced to Certain
Death by General Blanco.
New Yobk, Dec. 28. lndignation
over the killing of Colonel Ruiz Is still
intense in Havana, says The Herald
correspondent. Many are disposed to
blame General Blanco, alleging that he
forced Colonel Ruiz to go in spite of the
latter’s protestations that it meant cer
tain death. This story is improbable,
but its circulation served to arouse a
very ugly feeling among the firemen,
of which Colonel Ruiz was once chief,
and by whom he was adored. This bit
ter feeling is intensified by a story that
Colonel Ruiz contributed to the support
of Colonel Aranguren’s mother, and
that only a few days before his death
sent to her SSO at Colonel Aranguren’s
personal request.
All accounts agree that Colonel Ar
, anguren was personally opposed to the
infliction of the extreme penalty and
would have saved Colonel Ruiz, but hie
own life would have been sacrificed had
he refused immediate compliance with
the orders of his superiors.
A cable has been received stating
that General Lee had been instructed
by Secretary of State Sherman to no
tify General Gomez and other rebei
leader* that they need expect no Amer
ican sympathy if they concluded to per
mit firing on flags of truce.
General Lee said he had received no
such instructions, and added that he
knew of no instance of the display of a
flag of truce during this war. It has
never been claimed by the Spanish an
thoritie* that Colonel Ruiz was under a
flag of truce, that institution being un
known to the Spanish army in Cuba—
its use being interdicted as involving
recognition of the insurgents as bel
ligerents.
This is so widely known that the
Spanish, while denouncing the killing
as an act of savagery, frankly admit
that Colonel Ruiz was under no protec
tion and had been abundantly warned
of the consequences of his action in ap
proaching the rebel camp.

Failing of the Womb.
The cases of uterine, displacement are
very numerous and constitute a prolific
cause of intense and wide-spread suffering.
Its symptoms are bearing-down or dragging
sensations, pain or weakness in the back,
sometimes a sense of goneness at the pit of
the stomach. It may result from too fre
quent childbearing, wearing garments that
compress the waist and abdomen, over
lifting, standing on the feet too long, and
general debility.
We would strongly urge the use of Dr.
Simmons Squaw Vine Wine which will
purify and vitalize the blood, give tone and
strength to the muscles of the uterus, so
that it will be kept in place. To facilitate
