court was completed yesterday at
noon, and it adjourned. The next

A Pretty Daughter.
The interesting news reached Borne
yesterday that a pretty baby girl had
been born to Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Har
rison, of Rock Hill, S. C. Mrs. Har
rison was Miss Mabel Seay, and is the
daughter of Capt. John J. Seay, of this
city.
A Swell Reception,
Mr. and Mrs. George Wright and Miss
Annie Hill entertained at the home of
the former on Fourth avenue last even
ing in honor of the Bachelors’ club. A
very large crowd of young people was
present and all spent a most delightful
evening.
Christmas Tomatoes.
The Tribune returns thanks to Mrs.
Dallas Turner for a basket of tomatoes
for our Christmas dinner. It is re
markable that such fine tomatoes
should grow and ripen in the open
gardens of North Georgia this late
in the season.
Closed Down Until February
The Standard Scale company has closed
down until February. Since work has
been resumed with this enterprise they
have had a very prosperous season, and
their scales have been shipped to every
section of the world. They closed down
with a smaller stock on hand than usual.
Death of James Clark,
James Clark, aged 84, died in West
Rome Wednesday. He was one of the

Shorter College Closes.
Shorter College closed yesterday for
the holidays and pupils and teachers will
have vacation until January 2nd. Many
cf the young ladies left yesterday for
their homes, and every outgoing train
carried merry happy groups. Quite a
number of the boarding pupils will
remain in the city during Christmas.

Capt. Thompson Hiles was called to
Shelbyville, Tenn., yesterday by the
serious illness of his sister, Mrs. W. W.
Berry.
A. M. Weatherly and family leave over
the Southern today for Brunswick where
they go to spend the holidays with
friends.
Mr. Will Henry Johnson, who has
been attending the Southern Medical
college of Atlanta, is home for the
holidays.
Miss Mary Jordan, of Anniston who
has made so many friends here on
former visits will spend the holidays
with Misses Sproull and Fouche.,
Mrs. J. F. Lester who has been the
guest of her parents, Capt. and Mrs.
J. W. Ewing for some time, left yes
terday for Atlanta, accompanied by
Mrs. Ewing.
Mr. and Mrs. John M. Graham have
returned from their bridal tour to Wash
ington and are at home now with the
bride’s mother, Mrs. E. R. McWilliams
on First avenue.
Dr. Walker Curry, who has been
studying medicine ’in a large Phila
delphia college, has arrived in the city
to spend the holidays with bis parents,
Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Curry.
Sidney Dean, George Harris, Fulton
Towers, Walter Wynn, four bright
boys who are attending the tech
nological school, came np yesterday
to spend the holidays with home
folks.
Mr. Aimer R. Davis, of Rome, spent
several days in the city this week.
Mr. Davis is a graduate of the law
class of ’96, and his many friends were
glad to welcome him in their midst.

the state university and Hamilton
Yancey from Bell Buckle college,
Tennessee, arrived last night to spend
the holidays with their parents, Col.
and Mrs. Hamilton Yancey.
Mrs. A. M, Van Dyke and the Misses
Van Dyke returned from Rome, where
they have been the guest 8 of Mrs. Hugh
Inman at the latter’s country home. The
ladies were accompanied by Mrs. T. N.
Van Dyke, who will spend the holidays,

confer the third degree, and have a
social reunion. Quite a number of

Alabama will be present. Among

Akin, of Georgia, and Grand Master
Biibro and Deputy Grand Master
Williams, District Lecturer Earnest
and Chairman of Committee on work
A. M. Scott, of Alabama. A number
of Masons from surrounding lodges
will also be present.
Cherokee Lodge has a great reputa
tion throughout the country, and
Masons from abroad are always
anxious to attend its entertainments
and witness its work.
The affair Monday night promises
to be one of the pleasantest and most
interesting Masonic events of the year.

DIED IN NEWNAN,
Mr. Charles McGuire Will be Buried
Here' This Morning.
Mr. Charles McGuire died in New
nan, Ga„ yesterday, and the remains
will reach Rome this morning at 7:15
o’clock over the Southern Railway.
The remains will be carried at once to
Myrtle Hill, and the funeral services
will be conducted at the grave by Rev.
S. R. Belk.
The following gentlemen will act as
pall bearers, and are requested to meet
at the McDonald Sparks Stewart store
this morning at 6:45 to go to the train:
Burnett Norton, Robert W. Graves,
Pennington Nixon, Dr. W. J. Shaw,
Walter Russ and C. K, Ayer.
The deceased was the son of Mr. Ter
rance McGuire, who formerly lived in
this city. He was a splendid young
man, about 30 years of age, and news
of his death will be received with re
gret.
