It is stated here by many of those in Closest relation with th • i ffur, that Mis. Beresford is about to bicorns Mrs King. Soin-'have stated that ths wedding had already occurred, but this seems to be pri m i uro. Whether a divorce has been secured is not known, but the rumor is gin-rally believed that the wedding wiil occur. Mrs. Beresford is very pleasantly re membered by many in Rome. Although her devotion to her husband was quite marked here, her lady friends in the city ar under the impression that the tumor is true. Those who should know most abuut. it, say the motor is well founded. ANOTHER ONE CAPTUEED. JForest Pinson, Who Broke Jail With Scott, Captured Yesterday, Another of the crowd that escaped from th j til here along w.th Chester Scott, was captured yesterduy. This one is Forest Finson who was in jail on a charge < f burglary. He was caught at the homo of his wife ; in the northern portion of the ci’y. It seems that he only came back nigh' j before last, and yesterday the c (fleers sported him and carried him buck to i jail. f Pinson says when he got out be dodged under one of those little holts-'s not fitty yards from the j u), and remained there for several hours. He hea d the people all around him, and the eh-liugang flogs went-within a f. w feet of him. He | thought sure ho wo: Id be ci' -it ed, bur i I a little after 12 o’clock that night, find-I ing rhe road clear he put out for A! - bama. j TEXAS BLOODHOUNDS- The Sheriff and His Deputies Have Some Beauties. Several months ago Sheriff Moo e and Deputies Turner and McConnell sent to Texas and bought a pair of puppies of a breed noted for their man tracking abil ities. They are now kept at the jail, and are beauties. They are only seven months old, but already show their breeding. They are not allowed to track anything except men, and although young have been given some training. The officers expect to make them of great value in Cases of escape and the like. A MAD DOG Killed Yesterday a Few Miles Frnin the City. A mad dog was killed yesterday on J e Heaton’s place, five miles down the river. Those who saw the animal say there is nodoubt about itsbeing rapid, and it seems to have done consider able damage before being shot. A mule and a cow be’o»ging io Tom Reynolds were bitten and a cow belong ing to Joe Heaton also feh t o teeth ot the raving canine. It is said many dogs in the neighborhood were bitten and sev eral will be killed at once. CLEVELAND RETURNS. The President lias Got Back from Ills Mysterious Trip. Washington. Nov. 16.—Preesident Cleveland arrived in Washington at 8:40 a. in., in President Thompson’s pri vate car, over the Pennsylvania railroad, haxing left Jersey City at midnight. He Was mot at the station by Private Sec retary Thurber and drove a.t once to the White House. Secretary Lamont re turned with him. Immediately after breakfast Mr. Cleve land was at his desk again, and at 9:45 his private secretary was sent over to the atato department with a large bundle of papers on which the president had taken fetion. I for Fell for supri me court judge is 133,- I i 581. The Prohibition vote for state I treasurer is 21,353. and the Populist vote ( 6,979. New tTer.suy’s Canvass. Trenton, Nov. 17. —The Republican plurality o:i election day, as compiled ' from the reports of tho county boards of canvassers, shows 22,622, the largest over known in the political history of the state. Last year the Democratic as sembly plurality was 1,495. Cleveland received 14,91 i, and Governor Worts 7,625. Kentucky's Standing. Frankfort, Nov. 15.—Tho political makeup of both houses of tho next as sembly will be as follows: In the house there will be 73 Democrats, 3 Independent Democrats, 2 Populists and 22 Republic ans. In the senate there will be 27 Demo crats and 11 Republicans. The Fast Tennessee Fund Company. New York, Nov. 17. —Herman Nie meyer, of this city, has obtained an at tachment against the East Tennessee Land company, with headquarters at Harriman, Tenn., for §19,256, the amount claimed to be due on two notes of the company. It is claimed that the com pany has valuable securities in this city, consisting of stock and bonds in tho hands of banks and individuals, and money on deposit in a bank. Long Stands on the Platform. Jasper, Ala., Nov. 17.—T. L. Long, of this city, who lias announced as a candidate for the Democratic nomina- I tion for congress in this, the Sixth con i gressional district, against Congressman Bankhead, is an avowed bimetalist, a I friend to silver and stands squarely on , the Democratic platform. Mr. Long will be a strong candidate before the Democratic congressional nominating convention in 1894. Dry Goods Firm Closed. Montgomery, Ala., Nov. 17.—Grus chinsky & Co., retail dry goods dealers i here, were closed by the sheriff on four I attachments sued out by 1. Pollak & i Co., Steiner & Lohman and C. A. Stern ' & Co., of this city, and Claflin & Co., of New York. The claims on which the I attachments were sued out aggregate i <3.500. It is said the total indebtedness I of the firm is three or four times this amount. Charged with Arson. Chicago, Nov. 17. —Three men named Frank Springer, Buck Kearns and Tom O'Keefe, are under arrest for supposed complicity in the recent destruction by fire of the Chicago City Railroad com pany’s car barns. The charges against the defendants are that they were con nected with the cause of the fire and stole a number of horses during the con fusion attending the conflagration. Shot While Stealing Potatoes. Savannah, Nov. 17.—Sylva Jackson, a negro woman, was shot in the back with both barrels of a shotgun by Z. G. Morgan. She was in the act of stealing potatoes from a field on the plantation at the time, and when ordered to halt failed to do so. She was then fired upon and tho wounds will probably prove fatal. Morgan was held at tho barracks to await the result of her injuries. A Gin Burning in Alabama. Gadsden, Ala., Nov. 17.—The large giuof A.T. Hopper, near Walnut Grove, Etowah county, has been destroyed by i fire, together with a lot of cotton. Tho origin of tho fire is not known, but it is supposed to have caught from a match in the lint room.
