Atlanta, D*c B.—The legislature has reached a stage where it is doing a great deal of work, in which there is very lit tle general interest. In a few Cays it will have exp'red by limitation. Now the senate and house are working over hours, devoting their time principally to measures of a local nature. These bills get to the committees and receive proper consideration there, but are rushed through the senate and house with a mighty rush. Once in a while a wide awake member catches something he doesn’t agree to and the tide is stamored by a discussion. The senate reconsidered the stenogra phers bill today. This is done to make some provisions fur stenographers of the big circuits whom the bill hits hard. ▲ bill of Stapleton, of Sumpter, brought out a good deal of discussion in the senate. It amends the section of the code restricting Abe amount of land a .foreign may hold in companies lend -snrt'iiity '■> buy i;u / ,f j ' •, .y ~ Mt l bill f 0 °- Dies, and there is a chance that it tfisy pus. The bill making prizs fighting a misde meanor passed the house. Mersbon’s board of health bill received an advance report from committee of the whole and was tabled. The bill of Harrison, of Quitman, pro viding pensions for blind and totally dis abled veterans was passed. Person s Bill Passes. A bill to increase the bond of state de positories to SIOO,OOO passed the house. This is Person’s bill amended. At night. Local bills were considered and the house finally adjourned through lack of quorum. The house has one hun dred and twenty-five bills on calender, and only tomorrow to consider house bills. The answer is that the widow is Stanley. She has lived as a man for the past 28 years and carried on business as a pluujber. An Actress Whose Proboscis Was Too Large Had It Shaved Down. Miss Crystal Thornton, an actress, submitted to a peculiar surgical opera tion at Roosevelt hospital Nov. 22. ! Miss Thornton, whose home is in Cali- j fornia, is a handsome young woman, i but in her opinion appearance suf- ■ sered through what she thought was a deformed nose, but which others re-! garded as nothing more than a pro- I nounced Roman nose. She determined, j however, to have the nose reduced to a I normal size and consulted Dr. Charles | Mcßurney with tho view of having him 1 perform the operation. The surgeon, it is said, advised her ' that if the operation was performed a ' scar might remain, which would per- • haps be more objectionable to her than her prominent nose. Miss Thornton declared that she preferred the scar to having so much nose and renewed her request that the operation be perform- 1 ed. The patient was placed under the influence of ether, incisions were made, • the skin laid away on either side and part of the bone removed. The wound was treated with anti- 1 septics, the skin replaced, and in due time the patient went home. She vis- j ited the hospital again two days later, when the wound was found to bo heal-1 ing nicely. Miss Thornton has since that time remained at home, and un-1 less some unforeseen accident occurs yvill in time make her appearan-e in public with a symmetrical nose, in har mony with the rest of her features.— New York Letter.
