Bball continued from page IB minutes to go in the half, and the Bulldogs took the lead with two free- throws by Jashaun Pow ell, 21-20. With 30 sec onds left in the half the score was 26-20, TCHS, and at halftime the Bull dogs had pushed their lead to 28-20. The two teams kept it close in the second half, but the Bulldogs outlasted Montgomery and got the win, 57-51. This week Toombs met up with Vidalia on Tuesday night after presstime, and will be at Swainsboro on Friday with the girls getting un derway at 7:00 p.m. Toombs will then be at Tattnall County on Sat urday again starting at 7:00 p.m. Montgomery was at Wilcox County on Tues day after presstime, and will be back in action on Saturday at Telfair County at 4:00 p.m. RTCA Plays At Brentwood By Mike Branch Sports Editor sports 7 advance@gmail.com The Robert Toombs Christian Academy bas ketball teams took part in the Christmas tourna ment at Brentwood Academy. The girls faced Brentwood and the boys took on George Walton Academy on Monday, and were both supposed to play again on Tuesday, but those games were cancelled. Girls vs. Brentwood The Lady Crusaders had a tough time finding their offense against the War Eagles. Brentwood jumped out to an early lead and pulled away to a 61-12 victory. Boys vs. GWA The boys got a close win over George Walton. RTCA held off the Bull dogs as they won the game 50-42. This week RTCA was at Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday after presstime, and will be back in ac tion on Friday at Bulloch Academy with the girls game starting at 6:00 p.m. Wheeler Falls To Dublin By Mike Branch Sports Editor sports 7 advance@gmail. com Last Tuesday the Bull dogs basketball team from Wheeler County High School was at Dublin to take on the Irish, losing in the boys game. Dublin had a big first period as they pulled out to a 26-13 lead over the Bulldogs. Wheeler did a better job in the second, but at the end of the first half the score was 40-24 with Dublin out in front. Dublin added to their lead in the third and were on top 59-40 heading to the fourth. The Irish took the win 73-48 over Wheeler. On Tuesday of this week Wheeler was at East Laurens after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday when they host Hawkinsville with the girls starting at 6:00 p.m. Then on Saturday the Bulldogs will be at Johnson County with games starting at 6:00 p.m. Giving you the GOOD STUFF! In Toombs County, the time for filing returns is January 1 through April 1. The tax return is a listing of property owned by the taxpayer and the taxpayers declaration of the value of the property The taxpayer may elect not to file a property tax return if there have been no changes that would affect the value of their property from the previous year. Once the initial tax return is filed, the law provides for an automatic renewal of that return each succeeding year at the value finally determined for the preceding year. The taxpayer is required to file a new return only as additional property is acquired, improvements are made to existing property, or other changes occur. Big Events For VHS Wrestling By Mike Branch Sports Editor sports 7 advance@gmail. com The Vidalia High School wrestling team had wrestlers take part in two different tourna ments over the holiday week. Some wrestlers traveled to Kissimmee, FL to wrestle in the Knockout Christmas Classic at Silver Spurs Area. Others went to the Hook'Em Holiday Clash at Lambert High School in Suwanee. The Indians had good showings at both events with Tom Godbee and Jalin Burns placing in Florida with Hunter Manning just outside placing. The Knock Out Classic is one of the toughest tournaments in all of the southeast. Godbee took third place at 197 lbs. Godbee won his third place match over Ryan Cody from The Master's Acad emy by a 4-1 decision. At 287 lbs. Burns took fourth place. He fell in the third place match to Ethan Vergara of Ma ter Lakes Academy by a close 3-2 decision. Manning also had a good showing as he was 2-2 in the tournament and finished just outside the podium. VHS Coach Bobby Blount said, “This is the toughest tournament in the southeast and it cer tainly lived up to the hype. It was an honor to compete against some of the greatest high school wrestlers in the nation.” At the Hook'Em Holiday Clash at Lam bert VHS again had wrestlers that had good performances. This tour nament showcases some of the best wrestlers in the state and gave VHS an opportunity to com pete against them. At 182 lbs. Dawson Campbell placed second and at 195 lbs. DeCarlos Willingham finished third.The team got lots of mat time in the duals on Tuesday and individ uals on Wednesday, which will help them as the season progresses. This week will be an other big week for VHS as they will take the short trip to compete in the Sweet Onion Memo rial Tournament at Toombs County High School on Friday and Saturday. Treutlen Splits With Jenkins By Mike Branch Sports Editor sports 7 advance@gmaii. com The Treutlen County High School Vikings bas ketball teams split a pair of games with Jenkins County on Tuesday of last week on the road in Mil- len. The girls struggled to get anything going in their game, while the boys pulled out a one-point win. In the boys game Treutlen squeaked by Jen kins as they took the win over the War Eagles 48-47. In Toombs County, the time for filing returns is January 1 through April 1. These returns are filed with the Toombs County Board of Assessors’ office. The forms are available in the office or at www.qpublic.net/ga/toombs/ forms. The tax return is a listing of personal property owned by the taxpayer and the taxpayer's declaration of the value of the personal property. Once the initial tax return is filed, the law provides for an automatic renewal of that return each succeeding year at the value finally determined for the preceding year. The taxpayer is required to file a new return only as additional personal property is acquired, improvements are made to existing property, or other changes occur. A new return, filed during the return period, may also be made by the taxpayer to declare a different value from the existing value where the taxpayer is dissatisfied with the current value placed on the personal property by the Board of Tax Assessors. Freeport Exemption Applications may also be filed from January 1 through April 1 in order to receive the maximum exemption on qualifying inventory. In November, 2010 Georgia voters approved exempting all inventory of a business from state ad valorem tax. However, this does not exempt inventory from local (county, city, school, etc.) taxes.
