finished the last two years
at 96 and 3, including a
44-1 record this year.
The last match of the
night featured Jaylin
Burns, who won his 1st
three matches by pin and
entered the Champion
ship match with 32 wins
on the year. Facing Dodge
County’s Landynn Pow
ers, Burns took control in
the 2nd period, scoring 5
points and then cruising
to a 6-2 win.
After the four had
competed, Indian Head
Coach Bobby Blount was
more than pleased about
the results, “These four
have been our leaders all
year, and it was great to
have all four in the finals.
I am just proud to be able
to have this experience
with them. It was fun to
coach and spend so much
time with them this sea
son. They made a lot of
memories that they will
never forget, and I am just
proud of them.”
Assistant Coach
Chris Hamilton summed
the year up by saying, “All
of our wrestlers have
grinded all year to get
where we were. They
faced adversity all year
long with COVID, but
made it happen anyway. It
was an awesome finish to
a great year.”

the Indians kept up the
pressure and were on top
38-30 heading to the
fourth. With just 2:42 to
go in the game the score
was 46-32. JD closed the
lead to 10 points with just
over one minute left, but
the Indians held on to win
48-41.
VHS was led by Dai
ley with 14 points, Jakobi
Washington added 13,
and Ira Clements scored 8
in the win.
The Lady Indians fin
ished the regular season
at 10-10 over all and 6-6
in the Region while the
boys were 13-7 and 7-5.
This week is the Region
Tournament and the Lady
Indians played on Tues
day after presstime against
Swainsboro. If they won
that game, they will play
again on Wednesday at
East Laurens at 6:00 p.m.
The boys will play their
first game of the tourna
ment on Wednesday
against Toombs County
at home at 6:00 p.m.
Wheeler Boys Beat Dooly

The Wheeler County
High School boys basket
ball team played two games
last week, and added a win
by forfeit over Wilcox
County. The Bulldogs were
in Mt. Vernon to face Mont
gomery County on
Wednesday and then hosted
Dooly County in the final
regular season game of the
year on Saturday.
Boys vs. MCHS
Wheeler led this game
early and were on top 12-9
at the end of the first period.
It was 14-9 with seven min
utes to go in the first half of
the game. Wheeler added a
pair of free throws to push
the lead to 16-9. The Eagles
got a basket on a fast-break,
but Jason Culver answered
to make it 18-12.
With 4:40 to go in the
half MCHS hit a three-
pointer to close the lead to
18-15, and then it was 18-
17 after a fast-break for the
Eagles, which forced a time
out by the Bulldogs. MCHS
took the lead, 19-18 with
just over three minutes on
the clock.
It was 23-20 after a nice
drive into the lane by
Keenan Bryant, thenClaude
Pound tied the game at 23-
23 with 2:30 left. The Ea
gles hit another three to
lead 26-23, and they ex
tended that lead to 29-24
with just 15 seconds to play
in the first half.
MCHS held and took
that lead, 29-24 into half
time.
In the second half of
the game the Bulldogs kept
it close, but were never able
to get back on top as the
Eagles took the victory, 62-
53.
Boys vs. Dooly
The Bulldogs wrapped
up the regular season with a
win over Dooly County in
Alamo on Saturday. It was a
close game, but Wheeler
pulled it out and won, 63-
59 over the Bobcats.
The Bulldogs finished
the regular season with a
record of 8-10 overall and
they were 7-9 in the Region.
This week they will take
part in the Region Tourna
ment with game times
TBA.

Eagles Get Big Wins

The Montgomery
County Eagles played their
final games of the regular
season last week and it was
a good week as the girls
played just one game and
won, but added two other
wins by forfeit. The boys
played three games and
won all of their contests.
Girls vs. Johnson
The girls took on
Johnson County on Tues
day of last week. The Lady
Eagles had a big offensive
output on the night as they
put 78 points on the board.
The Lady Eagles led 19-12
at the end of the first pe
riod and pushed that lead
to 4-26 by halftime as they
outscored the Lady Tro
jans 25-14 in the second
period.
In the third MCHS let
up a bit, but still led 55-39
heading to the fourth.
MCHS picked it back up
as they rolled to a 78-49
victory over Johnson.
MCHS was led by Ma-
kyla Bell with 38 points,
with Marley Bell adding
14, and Zakhia Lawhorne
and Amire Banks each
with 9 points.
Boys vs. Johnson
The boys also picked
up a win over the Trojans.
It was a much closer game
than the girls contest, but
the Eagles pulled it out 72-
67.
Boys vs. Wheeler
Wheeler led this game
early and were on top 12-9
at the end of the first pe
riod. It was 14-9 with seven
minutes to go in the first
half of the game. Wheeler
added a pair of free throws
to push the lead to 16-9.

a fast-break when Xavier
Brantley slammed one
down, but Wheeler an
swered to make it 18-12.

half Calvin Williams hit a
three-pointer to close the
lead to 18-15, and then it
was 18-17 after a fast-break
with Williams getting the
basket, which forced a
timeout by the Bulldogs.
MCHS took the lead, 19-
18 with just over three
minutes on the clock when
Brantley hit a basket.
It was 23-20 after a
nice drive into the lane by
the Bulldogs, and they
then tied the game at 23-
23 with 2:30 left. The Ea
gles hit another three as
Brantley gave MCHS the
lead 26-23, and they ex
tended that lead to 29-24
with just 15 seconds to
play in the first half.
MCHS held and took
that lead, 29-24 into half
time.
In the second half of
the game the Bulldogs kept
it close, but were never
able to get back on top as
the Eagles took the victory,
62-53.
Boys vs. Treutlen
MCHS closed out the
regular season with a win
on Saturday at home over
Treutlen County. MCHS
had no problems in this
game as they rolled to a 65-
43 win over the Vikings.
This week both the
Lady Eagles and the Eagles
will take part in the Region
Tournament with game
times TBA.
