The Egyptian army that followed after them was swallowed up by the water. At Marah the people began to grumble because of the bitterness of the water. Moses cried to the Lord and the Lord showed him a piece of wood which he threw into the water and the water became sweet. Exodus 15:22. Manna and Quail Given for Food In the wilderness of sin, the whole community of Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron. They complained that it would have been better to have died in Egypt than there in the desert. They remembered the pots of meat they had to eat back in Egypt and here in the desert they were hungry. In response to their grumblingsfSod. sent bread from heaven whTch<they " would gather daily and eat in,the~ mornings.
