Mr. Thomas Shepherd
Mr. Thomas Edison
“Shep” Shepherd, age 89,
of the Rockledge Commu
nity, died on Monday, Au
gust 16, 2021, at his home.
Mr. Shepherd was
born in Toombs County.
As a young child, the fam
ily moved to Gillis Springs
before moving to Sop-
erton in the early 1940s.
He was a 1949 graduate
of Soperton
High School.
He worked
for the Geor
gia Depart
ment of
Transportation for a short
time before serving in the
United States Army. Upon
being honorably dis
charged, he rejoined the
Department of Transpor
tation, where he worked as
a transportation highway
project engineer until he
retired in October 1984.
He was a lifelong member
of the Primitive Baptist
Church, serving for many
years as a deacon at Oak
Chapel Primitive Baptist
and most recently attend
ed and served as a deacon
at Union Primitive Baptist
in Swainsboro. He was
preceded in death by his
parents, Thomas Daniel
Shepherd and Hattie Eva
Kersey Shepherd; and his
siblings, Merle S. Holton,
Mildred Shepherd, Madie
S. Smith, Mattie Kate
Shepherd, infant, Doris
Nell Shepherd, Faye S.
Coleman Wood, Betty S.
Duffee and Ezra Darvin
Shepherd.
Survivors include his
wife of 63 years, Emmeline
Wynn Shepherd, Rock-
ledge; his children, Anita
G. Shepherd, Dublin,
Stacy E. Shepherd (Gay),
Rockledge, Ricky Shep
herd (Deborah), Bonaire,
Terry Shepherd (Bonita),
Rockledge, and Tammy
Bayto (Johnny), Dublin;
2 sisters, Elaine S. Shef
field (Lonnie), Rentz, and
Hilda S. Hackle (Bobby),
Dublin; 1 sister-in-law,
Annette Shepherd, Sop
erton; 6 grandchildren;
6 great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and
nephews.
A graveside funeral
service was conducted
on Wednesday, August
18, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., in
Blue Springs Cemetery
in Rockledge, with Rev.
Chris Norris and Elder
Sam Bowen officiating.
Pallbearers were
Charlie Shepherd, Derrick
Shepherd, Danny Shep
herd, Hunter Shepherd,
Michael Christian and
Baron Powell.

charge of arrangements.
Mr. Jonathan Brinson
Mr. Jonathan Daniel
Brinson, age 35, of Lyons,
died on Wednesday, Au
gust 18, 2021, at Navicent
Health in Macon after a
brief battle with Covid.
Mr. Brinson was a life
long resident of Toombs
County, lived in Lyons all
of his life, and was a 2004
graduate of Vidalia High
School. He was a mem
ber of New Life Church,
where he operated the au
dio, visual and technology
for the church for the past
16 years. He was preced
ed in death by his father,
George Warren Brinson,
Jr., and 2 nieces, LilyAnna
Brinson and Elizabeth
Mae Harrelson.
His family includes
his mother, Tammy Brin
son Harrelson and hus
band Ronald of Lyons; 1
brother, Warren Brinson
and wife Hannah of Elli-
jay; 1 sister, Julia Brinson
Toole and husband Dylan
of Lyons; 2 stepbrothers,
Adam Harrelson and wife
Rachel of Burleson, TX,
and Eugene Harrelson
and wife Jeanette of Ft.
Worth, TX; several aunts
and uncles; and several
nieces and nephews, in
cluding JoJo Baker, Pais
ley Brinson, Oliver Brin
son, and baby Toole.
The family will re
ceive friends at the funeral
home on Friday evening,
August 27, 2021, from
6:00 until 8:00.

service will be held Sat
urday, August 28, 2021,
at 11:00 a.m., at Sharpe
Cemetery, with Pastor
Rusty Houser and Rev.
Bob Smith officiating.

Mrs. Betty McDonald
Fountain, age 84, of Mt.
Vernon, died on Thursday,
August 19, 2021.
Mrs. Fountain was a
lifelong resident of Mont
gomery County, a 1954
graduate of Montgomery
County High School at
Kibbee, and attended Perry
Business School. She re
sided in Mt. Vernon since
1966 and retired from the
Georgia Department of
Corrections in Mt. Ver
non. She was a long-time
member of the First Bap
tist Church of Mt. Vernon,
where she taught Sunday
school, served as Vacation
Bible School Director, and
was a member of the Bag
Ladies and the Women’s
Missionary Union. She was
a member of the Pilot Club
of Vidalia and was a Brew-
ton-Parker College Trustee.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Frank
Fountain; 1 daughter, De
nise Hockensmith; and her
parents, Ennis Cleveland
McDonald and Clyde Lula
Hamilton McDonald.
Her family includes 3
children, Debra Adams of
Mt. Vernon, Diane Born
and husband Jack of Tar-
rytown, and Danny Foun

Clements, age 21, of Vida
lia, died on Sunday, August
8, 2021, in Montgomery
County from injuries sus
tained in an automobile ac
cident.
Mr. Clements was born
in Toombs County and
was employed with Peoples
Roofing Company of Vi
dalia. He was preceded in
death by his mother, Dana
Leah Clements, and his
grandmother, Aldine Carter
Clements.
Survivors include his
grandfather, Esten Clem
ents; aunts and uncles, Ally-
son Cauley Branch, Dewey
Cauley, Dane Clements,
and Carrie Passailaigue;
his cousins, Carter Cauley,
Alex Brooks Passailaigue,
Andrew Passailaigue, Drew
Clements, and Kimber Cle
ments; and his girlfriend,
Natalie Clifton of Tarry-
town.
Funeral services were
held on Thursday, August
12, 2021, at 3:00 p.m., in
the chapel of Swain Funeral
Home, with Rev. David Bar
ber and Ray Peoples offici
ating. Interment followed in
Appling Memorial Gardens.

Mr. James Alford Pow
ell, age 76, died on Thurs
day, August 19,2021, at East
Georgia Regional Medical
Center in Statesboro.
Mr. Powell was born in
Montgomery County, was
raised in Toombs County
and was a 1963 graduate of
Lyons High School, where
he played on the Lyons
County Bulldogs football
team, winning the 1963
State Championship, and
also ran track. He moved
to Bulloch County in 1983
and worked for over 25
years as a produce manager
for various grocery stores
until his retirement. He was
a member of Emit Grove
Baptist Church. He was
preceded in death by his
parents, James Alvin Powell
and Mildred Calhoun Pow
ell, and 1 brother, Earl Pow
ell.
Survivors include his
wife of 33 years, Iwonia
Powell of Statesboro; 2
children, Derek Powell and
Christie (Kevin) Moody; 2
stepchildren, Shahn-Ryan
Shumacher and Nicole M.
(Matt) Maulden; his grand
children, Andrew Hendrix,
Kirsten Powell, Addison
Black, Daniel Maulden, and
Naomi Maulden; 2 broth
ers, Wayne Powell (Susan)
and A.J. Powell; and several
extended family members.
The funeral service was
held on Monday, August 23,
2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Emit
Grove Baptist Church, with
Pastor Tim Huffingham of

Dr. John Milton Moody
died on August 4, 2021, at
Shands Hospital in Gaines
ville, FL, following several
years of declining health.
Dr. Moody was born in
Hazlehurst. He was a 1967
honor graduate of Jeff Da
vis High School and a 1973
graduate of the University of
Georgia School of Pharma
cy. He owned and operated
Telfair Drug Store in McRae
from 1977 until 1984, when
he chose to attend medi
cal school at the American
University of the Caribbean
in Montserrat, graduating in
1987. From 1987 to 1991,
he completed clinical resi
dencies in Johnstown, PA,
a year in London, England,
as well as Boston, MA, and
Columbus, GA. He was li
censed in the state of Geor
gia to practice medicine
October 3,1991, and had an
active license until he passed
away. He had practices in
McRae, Statesboro, and
Lyons. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Jill Stivers
Moody; his parents, John
William (J.W.) Moody and
Georgia Lou McEachern;
and 1 brother, Robert Earl
Moody.
Survivors include 1
daughter, Julie Campbell
Moody of Savannah; 1 sister,
Judith (Judy) Carol Moody
of Sautee Nacoochee; his
nephews, Rob Moody, Na
than Moody, A1 Smith, and
Gabe Smith; 1 godson, Lee
