Christian Academy's
football season came to
an end last Friday night in
Sandersville in the first
round of the GISA State
Football Playoffs. The
Crusaders had the tough
task of taking on the #1
team in the State, Brent
wood's War Eagles, but
got a couple of late
touchdowns to make the
score respectable against
the talented team.
RTCA had the ball to
start the game, but just a
few plays in a tipped pass
led to an interception re
turned for a touchdown
with just over 10 minutes
left in the first quarter of
the game. That put Brent
wood on top 7-0 after the
extra point.
Brentwood added to
that lead on an 80-yard
pass for a score with 7:32
left in the opening quar
ter. With the PAT they
led 14-0 over RTCA.
With 5:35 left in the first,
they pushed that lead to
21-0 over RTCA.
Early in the second
quarter Brentwood added
another touchdown to
lead 28-0 over the Cru
saders. Then another in
terception returned for a
touchdown gave them a
35-0 lead with 7:26 left in
the first half of the game.
RTCA finally got on
the board on a 3-yard run
by Tucker Heath. That
was set up by a big pass
play from TJ Stanley to
Jashaun Powell. Justin
Bowers added the extra
point to make it 35-7 with
7:01 left in the half. And
that was the score at half
time as well as RTCA
managed to keep Brent
wood out of the end zone.
With just over five
minutes to go in the third
quarter Brentwood led
RTCA 42-7, and with
4:11 in the third the score
was 49-7.
In the fourth quarter
of the game RTCA scored
two more touchdowns.
The first came on a run
by Powell from 5 yards
out. Bowers tacked on
the PAT to make it 49-14.
And just before the end
of the game Stanley hit
Powell for the final score
of the game to make the
final score 49-21.
RTCA will lose just
one senior off of this
year's team, Clayton
Meadows.
