Brewton-Parker Lady Barons Play In Florida
The Brewton-Parker
College Lady Barons bas
ketball program opened
the Keiser Thanksgiving
Classic in Tallahassee, FL,
on Tuesday afternoon with
a challenge against the
hosts Keiser University.
On Wednesday BPC took
on Florida Memorial and
bounced back with a win.
vs. Kaiser
The Lady Barons (5-
3) fell to the Seahawks (7-
2) in a narrow 75-73 de
feat. Keiser utilized a sec
ond-half surge to knock
down Brewton-Parker.
Head Coach Steve Ed
wards gave his thoughts af
ter the close game. "Keiser
beat us today because we
are not ready to win games
late," Edwards said. "We
have been poor from the
free-throw line all season
and we have not finished
games well.
"We must be better de
fensively, and we have to
find the right group that
will get things done late in
the game," Edwards added.
"I take the responsibility of
putting the right group on
the floor in close games
and we will get this figured
out."
Early in the game,
Keiser opened with the
lead with Brewton-Parker
answering with an equaliz
ing shot. Both teams re
sponded in an early back-
and-forth to open the
game. After a three-pointer,
the Lady Barons controlled
the scoreline with a 7-4
lead.
Throughout the quar
ter, Brewton-Parker slowly
built up a lead that would
eventually amount to dou
ble-digits with around two
minutes left. With under
two to play, the Lady Bar
ons built a 13-point lead,
but Keiser pulled it back to
10 just before the period
ended. BPC led 21-11 after
the first 10 minutes of ac
tion.
HIT THE NAIL
ON THE HEAD
BY GARY TOOLE
Unbeknowing to folks around me
other than my wife everywhere I go
traveling in
my ministry
area which
covers about
half of
Georgia
where I still
travel over
500 miles per
week and I
have met
thousands of
people and still do that listen to me
on my radio ministry which is seven
stations and now many see me on
regional cable television and they
read me in my newspaper columns
and now shopper papers over
Georgia and my spiritual pamphlets
that we put all over most of Georgia
and also facebook and many say how
blessed they are and how they enjoy
it and almost all say “You hit the nail
on the head or you really tell it like it
is,” and I reply with, “That’s the only
way you can tell the whole truth.”
Amen! So I thought, “If you don’t
really have a gift from God and the
anointing then folks could not say
that about you.” God only blesses a
few with that type gift. Of course
some think they got it and don’t. Like
back years ago everyone was a poet.
A poet and I didn’t know it! Now
with facebook it makes everyone
think they are a writer and they ain’t
and never will be. And further more
if God gave you a gift then why ain’t
you using it? If you don’t use it you
will lose it. God gave me my gift as a
child and I was using it when I was 12
years old. My essays were so good
that my teachers had me read them to
the class and they did a writing
contest when I was 12 and over 500
entered it and I was the first place
winner. Just saying you are something
don’t make you that. Oh some will
come up with something but they do
not have a way with words to hit the
nail on the head. An idiot told me
one time that he could learn from
human ability to be a gifted God
anointed writer like me and I said, “It
is not by man’s ability. It is a gift from
God.” And then you got kin folk that
want to tag to you and think that
because your mama was their mama
they have the same talent that you do
and it just ain’t so. God gives all
different talents. Now some things
can be learned but real gifts can’t.
They are divine. So some want to be
writers couldn’t hit the nail on the
head with a ten pound sledge
hammer so to speak. So do what
God put you here to do and stay out
of other folk’s talent. Can you say
amen?

The Lady Barons contin
ued to control the score
line in the second quarter.
Brewton-Parker quickly
returned to a double-digit
lead after the Seahawks
opened with a three-
pointer. Shortly after,
Keiser began decreasing
the deficit, but the Lady
Barons responded by mov
ing their lead to 12 with
about seven minutes re
maining.
Despite holding the
lead, Brewton-Parker's ad
vantage diminished quickly
to just three points as the
Seahawks surged in the fi
nal minutes. Brewton-
Parker managed to hold on
to the lead at the break
with a 40-36 advantage
over Keiser.
In the third quarter,
Keiser followed two free
throws from the Lady Bar
ons with a 6-0 run to even
the game at 42-42. Brew
ton-Parker answered
quickly with an 8-0 run
pulling out to an eight-
point lead with four min
utes to play. For the re

both teams traded scoring
opportunities, but the Bar
ons held on to a six-point,
55-49 after three quarters.
Keiser began to
quickly minimize the defi

lead just two minutes into
the fourth quarter. Both
teams traded scores and
lead changes for the next
minute before the game
was drawn to a 63-63 stale
mate. The Seahawks built a
four-point lead with four

quickly with a three-point
advantage.
Keiser flipped the
score around yet again
with back-to-back threes to
recapture the lead with the
Lady Barons continuing to
answer by leveling the
score at 73-73 with just
1:30 left to play. Unfortu
nately, Brewton-Parker
struggled to produce any
thing offensively and were
forced to foul to give the
Seahawks a chance to take
advantage. Keiser managed
to gather a free throw on
two separate trips to pull
off the 75-73 win.
As a team, Brewton-
Parker shot for 35.7% (25-
of-70) from the field,
37.5% (9-of-24) from dis

trip.
Head Coach Steve Ed
wards gave his thoughts af
ter Wednesday's game.
"We found a way to win a
tough game today," Ed
wards said. "We battled
back late in the game, and
we had a couple of players
make some huge plays
down the stretch.
"We are starting to
learn what it takes to win
on the road," Edwards
mentioned. "I'm proud of
the fight that we showed
today and we will continue
to improve throughout the
season."
The Lady Barons
opened the game quickly
with a 6-0 run before the
Lions managed to level the
game at 6-6 with just under
seven minutes remaining

consecutive three-point

to pull within single digits
at the break. BPC led FMU
25-33 after two quarters.
Out of the break, Flor
ida Memorial quickly rid
themselves of the deficit
and controlled the score
line. The Lady Barons be

up to six points with just
over two minutes remain

44 lead over the Lady Bar

scored Brewton-Parker 25-
11 in the period.
In the fourth quarter,
Florida Memorial re
mained in control of the
score with both teams trad
ing scores and trips down
the floor. Every score the
Lady Barons had the Lions
were able to respond to
hold on to their advantage.
The Lions managed to
pull away to a 10-point
lead with four minutes left
to play in the game, but
Brewton-Parker fought
back in the final minutes.
The Lady Barons were able
to pull within just two
points with a minute to
play. Brewton-Parker man
aged to close out the game
on a 9-0 run within the last
minute to secure the 74-70
