Mrs. MaryNell Stewart
MaryNell Stewart died
Friday December 10, 2021,
at Community Hospice in
Vidalia, Georgia. She was
70 years old.
MaryNell was born
July 12, 1951, to Lula Irene
Joiner and Addison Carni-
gie (“Buddy” or “A.C.”)
Dew in Cobbtown, Geor
gia. Most of her life she
knew Elizabeth Oliver Dew
as her mother and Cecil
“Wayne” Warren as her
brother.
On August 18, 1967,
she married the love of her
life, David Dewayne Stew
art. In 1973, they moved
to 33 Dancer Street in
Santa Claus, Georgia - her
residence at the time of her
death.
MaryNell was a quiet,
deeply spiritual disciple
who sought to faithfully
follow in the way of Jesus
- the way of love. She was a
member of Oasis Church of
God.
As a mother, grand
mother, and great-grand
mother, she gave sacrifi-
cially of herself. She loved
children and had a child
like spirit as Jesus taught all
to have. She was a nurturer
and caregiver who was al
ways willing to serve oth
ers.
In the later years of her
working career, MaryNell
drove a school bus for Vi-
dalia City Schools and
later for Toombs County
Schools before her retire
ment in 2015.
MaryNell was prede
ceased by her parents, Bud
dy, Elizabeth, and Irene;
and by her stepbrother,
Wayne.
She will be greatly
missed by her husband,
David, and children, the
Reverend Dr. Matt Stewart
(Julia) and Leslie McDan
iel (Del); grandchildren,
Dustin Collins (Autumn,
his Dad Stacy Collins), and
Atalie Stewart; great-grand
daughters, Zoey Johnson
and Raelyn Collins.
Funeral services for
MaryNell Stewart were
held Monday, December
13, 11:00 a.m. at Oasis
Church of God, 1163 US-
1, Lyons, GA, with Gilbert
Wommack officiating. In
terment followed at Reedy
Creek Full Gospel Church
Cemetery.

Mrs. Billie Jean Fort
ner, age 80, ofVidalia, died
on Wednesday, December
8, 2021, at her home after a
sudden illness.
Mrs. Fortner was a na
tive of Reidsville and was
a graduate of Reidsville
High School. She earned
an Associate degree from
Brewton-Parker College
in Mt. Vernon and Bach
elor’s, Master’s and Six Year
degree, all in Education,
from Georgia Southern
in Statesboro. She taught
school at Toombs County
and Montgomery County,
primarily in the Gifted Pro
gram; and she was a mem
ber of the Georgia Retired
Teachers Association. She
was co-owner of several
businesses, including Rab
bit’s Truck Stop near Higgs-
ton. She attended Smith
Street Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by
her former husband, Rob
ert “Rabbit” Fortner; 1
daughter, Simone Dixon;
her parents, Willard “Bill”
Burch and Sara Elizabeth
Beckworth Burch; and 1
brother, Jakie Burch.
Her family includes 2
daughters, Gina Sumner
and husband Randy of
Marietta, and Natalie Mos
ley and husband Jason of
Vidalia; her grandchildren,
Daniel Wiggins and wife
Wendy of Macon, Ashley
Wiggins ofMarietta, Chris
ty Dixon of Mt. Vernon, Sa
vannah Beach and husband
Patrick of Uvalda, Chey-
enna Garner of Uvalda,
Denny Gamer II and wife

Macy Mosley and Jackson
Mosley of Vidalia; 6 great
grandchildren, Christo
pher, Autumn, Peter, Finn,
Jameson, and Ezra; and 2
great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was
held on Saturday, Decem
ber 11, 2021, at 3:00 p.m.,
in the chapel of Ronald V.
Hall Funeral Home, with
Pastor Chester Proctor of
ficiating. Burial followed at
Lakeview Memorial Gar
dens.
Pallbearers were Den
ny Garner II, Randall Dix
on, Ashley Wiggins, Daniel
Wiggins, Jackson Mosley,
and Patrick Beach.

Sharon Celeste
Prescott, 70, wife of Larry
Prescott of Canton, NC,
died November 28, 2021,
at University Hospital in
Memphis, TN.
Bom in Bradenton,
FL, on February 3, 1951,
she was the daughter of the
late Leroy and Effie Hayes.
A graduate of Berry
College in Rome, GA,
she earned her PhD
from https://olemiss.edu.
Following retirement as
teacher and reading spe
cialist, she filled her time
with grandchildren and
lots of travel!
She loved the moun
tains, beach, planting flow
ers and trees; she would be
found planting something
always.
She loved her family,
church, and neighbors. She
was very involved in Bethel
Baptist Church -BBC and
Bethel Christian Academy
- BCA tutoring young peo
ple in reading.
Left to cherish her
memory are her husband,
Larry Prescott, married
December 22, 1972; and
her children, Seth (Abby)
Prescott, and (John)
Stephanie Charping. She
is also survived by her
grandchildren, Tiffany and
Nate Weeks, Zachary, Bry
an, Chandler, Ashlyn, and
Macy Prescott of San An
tonio, TX, and Rebekah,
Hudson, Zane, and Ian
Charping of Cordova, TN;
and her siblings, Lash (Jan
ice), (Bob) Bonnie John
son, Lucky (Michelle), Van
and Tami Hayes.
A memorial service
was held at 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, December 11,
2021, at BBC in Canton,

Mr. Christopher Allen
“Chris” Stuckey, age 54, of
Montgomery County, died
on Friday, December 3,
2021, at Memorial Health
in Savannah after a sudden
illness.
Mr. Stuckey was a
native of Savannah, liv
ing in Vidalia most of his
life, and in Montgomery
County the past 3 years.
He worked as an assistant
manager at Walmart for
20 years, and currently
worked at Dollar General
in Lyons. He attended the
Oak Park Church of God.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Charlie A.
“Junior” Stuckey and Jean
Lynn Stuckey.
His family includes

Mr. Truman White
Mr. Truman White,
age 76, of the Orland Com
munity of Soperton, died
on Wednesday, December
8, 2021, at the Treutlen
County Health And Reha
bilitation Center.
Mr. White was born in
the Cedar Grove Commu
nity of Laurens County and
grew up in Cedar Grove
and Dublin, and settled in
Treutlen County in 1989.
He had a lifelong career of
working with sheetrock
and retired in 2015 after
over 61 years in the trade.
He was prededed in death
by his parents, Hardy and
Minnie Allen White; and
siblings, Hardy “Uncle Jr”
White, Jr., Bobby White,
Johnnie Merle McCrim-
mon, A.B. White, David
White, Jerry White and
Christine Foskey.
Survivors include his
wife of 52 years, Mary
Joyce White, Soperton,;
his children, Donna Rich

Mr. Reginald Lowery
Reginald Hackie Low
ery, 86, of Savannah, born
March 9, 1935, in Cedar
Crossing, GA, went home
to be with the Lord on De
cember 11, 2021.
Hackie was born to
sharecropper parents,
all throughout his life he
worked on the farm and
learned hard work and
dedication.
He learned
many skills
and trades
throughout
his life. He
was always very indepen
dent and determined to
continue to achieve new
things and reach all his
goals and ambitions in life.
At age 16, Hackie went
to dry cleaning school in
North Georgia. By the age
of 18, he was drafted by the
military. Hackie was two
weeks into basic training
before being honorably
discharged due to medical
disability.
Hackie and his wife,
Frances, owned and op
erated Lowery’s Sewing
shop at multiple locations,
Hinesville, Fort Stewart,
and Hunter Army Airfield.
Hackie loved his fami
ly and friends, and he loved
the Lord. He was a mem
ber of Bible Baptist Church
of Savannah for the past 28
years.
Hackie is preceded in
death by his loving wife of
46 years, Mamie Frances
Strickland Lowery; Sis
ter, Rita Meeks; Brothers,
Charles “Chuck” Lowery
and I.J. “Joe” Lowery; His
parents, Charles Edison
Lowery and Queen Braddy
Lowery.
He is survived by his
brother, Wallace (Kath
leen) Lowery; a daughter
and son-in-law, Pam and
Dennis Clark; a son, R.
Keith Lowery; 5 grandchil
dren, Alyson and Zackery

Mr. Jimmy English
Jimmy G. English,
87, of Valdosta, Georgia,
passed away of an extended
illness in Atlanta, GA, with
his family by his side, on
December 10, 2021.
Jimmy was born in
Brooklyn, NY, on April 7,
1934. His family eventu
ally moved to GA where
he attended and graduated
from Vidalia
High School.
Jimmy was a
very compas
sionate man
and had a
great love for people and
his country. At the age of
17, he joined the Air Force
and served overseas during
the Korean and Vietnam
Wars. After he retired from
the Air Force, he settled
down in Valdosta, GA, and
began raising a family. He
worked in Civil Service at
Moody Air Force Base un
til retirement. During this
time, he fulfilled his child
hood dream of becoming
a pilot by receiving his pi
lot’s license and purchasing
a small airplane. After his
retirement from Moody
AFB, he worked for South
Georgia Medical Center
for many years.
A well-loved man, Jim
my was kind, gentle, and
giving. He treated every
one with respect, trust and
honesty and upheld those
morals in his own life. He
loved his family and was al
ways there to help in time
of need. Jimmy was a “man
of faith” and loved going
on mission trips with his
church. He was a member
of First United Methodist
Church of Valdosta. One
of his favorite sayings was,
“God is Good all the time
and all the time, God is
Good.” His family often
referred to him as the “iron
man” because of his endur
ing strength and passion
for life.
Jimmy was preceded in
death by his mother & fa
ther, Joseph & Evelyn Eng
lish; sister, Ruth English;
brothers, Eugene & Joe
English; son, Craig Eng
lish; and daughter, Marcia
English. He is survived
by his sister, Janice Eng
