VHS Softball With Six Wins Last Week

What a week it was
for the Vidalia High
School Indians softball
team as they picked up
six wins over what was a
very busy week. The In
dians were at Tattnall
County on Tuesday,
hosted Emanuel County
Institute on Wednesday,
played their cross-county
rival on Thursday, and
on Friday and Saturday
they were at the North
Oconee Titan Classic
where they played Com
merce, Jackson County,
and Hebron Christian.
With these six wins they
improve their overall re
cord to 10-5-1 and are
now 3-0 in Region play,
vs. Tattnall
The Vidalia Indians
softball team improved
to 2-0 in Region 3AA
with a 9-2 win over
Tattnall County Tuesday
night.
After Tattnall County
jumped out to an early
2-0 lead in the bottom of
the first inning, the Indi
ans answered right back
with four runs in the sec
ond inning.. Madison
Starr led off the inning
with a double to center
field, then came around
to score on a Laylah
Brantley single. Gabby
Royal singled to send
Brantley to second base.
Tori Wright brought
them all home with a
three-run home run to
right field, giving the In
dians. 4-2 lead.
The Indians added to
their lead in the fourth
inning when an Emma
Humphrey RBI double
and a Shayla Bennett
RBI single made the
score 7-2. Tymber Harris
finished the scoring in
the seventh inning with a
long home run to make it
9-2.
In the circle Starr got
the win, going four in
nings, giving up three
hits and two runs while
striking out seven. Harris
came in in relief and
struck out eight in three
innings.

ECI got on the board
first with a run in the top
of the first inning and
then added a run in the
third inning to take a 2-0
lead over the Indians.
But in the bottom of
the fourth inning, the In
dians got things going as
they plated three runs to
jump ahead, 3-2. They
added three more runs in
the sixth inning as they
led 6-2. VHS held in the
top of the seventh inning
to win the game by that
score.
vs. Toombs
In the top of the sec
ond inning, Toombs got
a hit by Emmerson Pow
ell, and then Shayla
Stringer walked to put
two runners on base. But
a strikeout got the Indi
ans out of the jam.
In the bottom of the
second inning, Emma
Vinson led of with a walk
for the Indians. Emily
Thompson moved her to
second with a bunt.
Shayla Bennett hit a shot
to the fence to scored
Vinson for a 1-0 VHS
lead.
In the top of the third
inning, Rylie Lumley led
off with a walk, and then
she stole second. A ball
hit into shallow left by
Savannah Rushing tied
the game at 1-1. Starr
drove in another run
with a fielder's choice to
put the Indians on top
2-1.
In the top of the fifth
inning, Toomb's loaded
the bases but could not
get the big hit. In the
bottom of the frame, the
Indians loaded the bases.
An error by Toombs
made it 3-1 with VHS on
top. Another error al
lowed VHS to take a 3-1
lead.
In the bottom of the
sixth inning, Thompson
picked up a single, and
then Bennett followed
that with a two-run blast
to give VHS a 5-1 lead.
Tori Wright picked up a
single and was driven in
by Emma Humphrey for
a 6-1 lead. VHS then
loaded the bases and
scored another run on a
hit by Vinson.
VHS held in the top
of the seventh inning to
win the game 7-1 over
Toombs.
Titan Classic
At the Titan Classic,
the Indians had a good
showing as they picked
up three wins. The first
came in a 4-0 win over
Commerce on Friday.
That was followed on
Saturday with a 5-3 win
over Jackson County,
and then they capped off
the week with a 6-4 win
over Hebron Christian.
This week VHS took
on Appling County in a
Region game on Tuesday
after presstime. They
will play Brantley County
on Thursday on the road
at 6:00 p.m.

SERVE ON MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF
ELECTIONS & REGISTRATION
The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the
Montgomery County Board of Elections & Registration. The Board of Elections & Registration requires
a board of five members. The qualifications and requirements for members to serve on the Montgomery
County Board of Elections & Registration are set forth in Local Act No. 614 of House Bill 1015 of the
Georgia General Assembly as follows:
• Board members shall be an elector and resident of the county.
• The initial members of the board shall be appointed for terms of office beginning January 1, 2023. The
commissioners shall designate two of the initial members to serve for terms of two years and three of the initial
members to serve for terms of four years. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for terms of four years.
• No person who holds elective public office or member of his or her immediate family shall be eligible to serve
as a member of the board during the term of such elective service. The position of any member of the board shall
be deemed vacant upon such members, or upon a member of such members immediate family, qualifying as a
candidate for elective public office. Further, there shall be no members of the same immediate family serving on
the board or on the staff of the board at the same time. “Immediate family” shall be defined as a spouse, mother,
father, stepmother, stepfather, grandmother, grandfather, child, stepchild, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister,
half-brother, or half-sister.
• Board members must have been registered to vote in Montgomery County prior to the date of appointment.
• Board members shall become certified by satisfactorily completing a certification program as set forth in Code
Section 21-2-101 of the O.C.G.A.
• Board members shall exercise all the powers granted to him or her and shall perform all the duties imposed upon
him or her as set forth in Code Section 21-2-70 of the O.C.G.A.
• Board members shall be authorized and empowered to organize itself, determine its procedural rules and
regulations, adopt bylaws, specify the functions and duties of its members, and otherwise take such action as is
appropriate to the management of its affairs; provided, however, that no such action shall conflict with state law.
Any action and decision taken by the board shall be by a majority vote of the members of the board.
• Board members shall fix and establish directives, by appropriate resolution entered on its minutes, governing
the execution of matters within its jurisdiction. The board shall hold a minimum of quarterly meetings at times,
dates, and places as determined by the board. Any special meetings shall be called by the chairperson or any three
members of the board. All meetings of whatever kind of the board shall be conducted pursuant to Chapter 14 of
Title 50 of the O.C.G.A., relating to open meetings. The board shall maintain a written record of policy decisions
that shall be amended to include additions or deletions. Such written records shall be subject to Article 4 of
Chapter 18 of Title 50 of the O.C.G.A., relating to inspection of public records.
Board members are compensated $50.00 per meeting and reimbursed for all expenses associated with the
duties of the Board of Elections & Registration.

may download a board application at www.montcoga.gov. Click on “Board Appointment Application”
and “Criminal History Release Form.”

Montgomery County BOC, PO Box 295, Mount Vernon, GA 30445. Applications are due by Friday,

ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS
Sealed bids will be received for the 2023 LMIG, Street Improvements at the Mont
gomery County Board of Commissioners, 310 West Broad Street, Mt. Vernon, Geor
gia 30445 until Thursday September 29 at 11 am (Local Time), at which time they
will be publicly opened and read.
The work under this Contract will consist generally of the following:
The construction of approximately ± 2.40 miles of grading, resurfacing, and Full
Depth Reclamation including ± 3,406 tons of 12.5 mm Superpave, ± 454 tons of
leveling, 18,815 8” square yards of reclaimed base and all appurtenances necessary
for a complete job.
This contract will have 3 options to bid on for the commission to compare:
Option A: FDR 1.46 Miles and Resurface 0.94 Miles
Option B: FDR the entire length of Firetower road in the proposal 2.40 Miles.
Option C: FDR 1.46 Miles and Double Surface Treatment 0.94 Miles.
All work on the Project must be completed within 180 consecutive calendar days of
date of notice to proceed.
Bid shall be submitted on Bid Proposal Forms furnished for that purpose, in accor
dance with the Contract Documents and the Plans and Specifications which are on
file and may be reviewed at the office of the County Manager and the office of Hof-
stadter and Associates, Inc., Consulting Engineers, 4571 Arkwright Road, Macon,
Georgia 31210.
Copies of Bid Forms, Plans, Specifications and Contract Documents maybe obtained
from Hofstadter and Associates, Inc., 4571 Arkwright Road, Macon, Georgia 31210,
upon deposit of $150.00 per set. No refund will be made for returned documents.
No bid will be considered unless sealed and filed with the Montgomery County prior
to the time set forth above, and accompanied by a Bidder's Bond, payable to the
Montgomery County for 10 percent of the amount of the bid; to be forfeited as liq
uidated damages in the event that the bid be accepted and the bidder fail to enter
promptly into a written contract and furnish the required Payment Bond and Perfor
mance Bond and Insurance Certificates. Bids arriving after the designated time will
be returned unopened.
No bids shall be withdrawn for a period of 60 days after the opening of bids.
The Montgomery County, reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to overlook
and/or disregard informalities or irregularities in the proposals.
